  {#Yes} Also reminiscent of The Church.

It was a different song — "Just Like Honey." I tend to find all The Jesus and Mary Chain songs sound the same, but I like the sound so it doesn't matter.

what do you think of when you hear J&MC ?
Heaven is too close to Hell.

There's a bright light shining from the Darklands...it's The Jesus and Mary Chain. {#Sunny}

@Excelsior

Indeed, my rating dropped towards the end because of this.
Nostalgia does weird things to one's musical tastes :/
Excellent song from an excellent album.  Definitely deserves a higher rating so I gave it an 8.

Geez, Bill, you've really got my attention this morning! It's great to hear J&MC - it's been way too long. I know it's too early, but I'd sure like a drink... LOL

Hiding on the backstreets Hiding on the backstreets They were one of the suprises of Lollapalooza, but certainly not the only one. Likeable tune.
Flashback to high school. This was pretty popular back then.
i'm going to the darklands to talk in rhyme with my chaotic soul as sure as life means nothing and all things end in nothing and heaven i think is too close to hell i want to move i want to go i want to go oh something won't let me go to the place where the darklands are and i awake from dreams to a scary world of screams and heaven i think is too close to hell i want to move i want to go i want to go take me to the dark oh god I get down on my knees and i feel like i could die by the river of disease and i feel that i'm dying and i'm dying i'm down on my knees oh i'm down i want to go i want to stay i want to stay
They don't really do "cheerful"
much too long and repetitive for my tastes...boring, in fact.
the only saving grace about this song is that the dude wrote it when he was just 3 years old. oh, he didn't? nevermind.

If you like Hope S. and JAMC get "Stoned and Dethroned" and I believe you'll find the song "Sometimes Always" quite wonderful. This is a very consistent band driven by strong songwriting like so many others here on RP. Also, their brand of high country and western on the S&D album fits the RP playlist better than their industrial metal buzz of earlier albums.
zzzzz..
The coolest band ever. Oh to be a moody but hopeful teen again.
Mm, I first thought it was going to be a band covering Bowie's Heroes, but this isn't bad at all either. I like the natural feel.

I like this! I always wondered who it was. Nice.
Yay, my upload was added! :D I have gone to the darklands To talk in rhyme with my chaotic soul Been there, done that. ;) This particular song is my favourite JAMC song, and possibly one of my favourite songs of all time. Their chaotic, feedback-drenched 1985 debut "Psychocandy" might be their most well-known album, but I think the follow-up album "Darklands" is their finest moment, perfectly blending the feedback with beautiful melodies. Indeed they were, I distinctly remember that Jim Reid of JAMC and Hope Sandoval of Mazzy Star were a couple for a while, just after their collaboration on the JAMC single "Sometimes Always". :)

The Jesus and Mary Chain are a Scottish band that started in the early 80s. A lot of their stuff is super heavy on the feedback & reverb but in a dreamy mellow way. I didn't know this, but they're linked with the band Mazzy Star. More info is available here: https://www.80smusiccentral.com/jamc.html Try their album "Psycho Candy, " still have my vinyl copy & cherish it!
