I have no idea what is going on here...  It's like watching some horrible event unfold and you know you should look away but it is impossible to do so.  And then it pulls you in and some weird Stockholm Syndrome starts to take hold...

I'll give it a 6.
This song title should be called "EEEeeeEEEeeeEEEeee".
What the hell...
At least it's not boring.  I've rated it a 9 - I'd much rather hear this than Grateful Dead.
Sounds like Jerry Lewis on helium.

When this came on my first reaction was "What the hell was that?"  It was playing on my Roku and I clicked the asterisk to see the cover and saw that I did not recognize it.  So my question became "WHO the hell is Martyn Bennett, and why do I not know who the hell he is?"  And while I can appreciate some of the comments comparing it to fictional mashups of other musicians, I don't have the knee jerk reaction that it's bad.  Not sure yet how good I think it is, but it sure got my attention, and I like that! So I clicked through to Amazon and bought the CD.
I funny enough, actually Like this lol!
Loving this - more please - it's made even better by the comments. Chill peeps, chill.
Cmon.  Quitcherbitchin and getagroovin!

Yer listnin to Radio Paradise!

Right, but it's still bad.

Just bumped this from 7-8...I've a feeling it might go higher still....

You may say a cat uses good grammar. Well, a cat does -- but you let a cat get excited once; you let a cat get to pulling fur with another cat on a shed, nights, and you'll hear grammar that will give you the lockjaw. Ignorant people think it's the noise which fighting cats make that is so aggravating, but it ain't so; it's the sickening grammar they use.
-- Mark Twain

Ughhh. Sounds like a dying cat or an American Yoko Ono

This.
Wow.  It's like Moby, Yoko Ono and David Byrne had a food fight and they recorded it...
I really like the groove near the end. Cool.
Someone tell Yoko Ono's sister to shut up, please. Like the beat of this song, though.
I'll give it a "2", because only Grateful Dead truly deserves the "1" category, and at least this has a beat.
21 "Godlike"-votes ... has the entire world become insane?
When the "singing" starts, I always hear the melody for the line "Blue moon you saw me standing alone". I have to look every time.
It got me out of my seat to find out what it was. Edgy, bawdy, interesting, quirky. Just how I like it and why I listen to RP!
it got my  attention - in a good way
Sounds akin to Bjork and Kate Bush strangling Yoko Ono.
Love it.
Somebody better stop stepping on that cat.............

This, but sub in "Talking Heads" for "Radiohead"

I recognize the potential annoyance factor is painfully high, and it's overly and derivatively eclectic.  But I didn't hate it.
Criminally underrated. I prefer this 100000x more than overplayed, overhyped, extra annoying Radiohead.
It's different for sure.  I prefer this 1,000 times more than other songs played on RP (Grateful Dead, Neil Young, Van Morrison, Sheryl Crow, Counting Crows, etc.).
Well, it's interesting, I'll give him that.
Wardruna songs get rejected, yet this caterwauling madness gets played?
I think somebody in that old Andrew Dice 90's flick Ford Fairlane said it best; "I've heard cats fuck with more harmony than that" {#Moon}
This is worthy... a nice salve for all the "pretty" sounds of harmonious popular music. Check out his Bothy Culture album.
I discovered the great scottish poet Sorley Mcclean through his "Hallaig" .
I want to like this because it's just so weird. But that droning, screeching voice  just kills it for me.
very odd.  Couldn't decide but I came down on a 6.  Very interesting.  Wonder what else he has out there?
this is unfunny crap

There ain't enough whiskey for that.
Unusual but interesting and very out on the edge. Nice for a change of pace. Thanks Bill for the intro. I'll definitely checking out Mr. Bennett's work.
Well, this is... interesting. Like many others, I like the beat but think so poorly of the vocals that I'm trying to edit them out mentally as I listen.

Still, thanks Bill. This is something I never would have found on my own.
I've heard worse here and far more frequently, but still.....{#Think}
Wow! I've never, ever seen so many sucko-barfo ratings on a song on RP. This is quirky and different, right enough, but surely it's not that bad? Maybe I'm just a pervert, but I rather like this, and for sure it's very RP. It's the aural equivalent of a bucket of water being tipped over your head. 7 from the soaked Nottingham jury.

I'm not sure it counts as "celtic fusion", mind, and I write that as a very big fan of modern celtic music.

For those, perhaps across the Pond , mystified by the cover, the thing yer man's standing by is a triangulation point, to be found on many a hill and mountain in the UK.
I got this on PSD and I really could not control myself with laughter.  I want to give this a chance, but I cannot stop laughing hysterically.  I kid you not, I am crying quite a bit this is so funny.

This came up as a PSD... great choice. PSD! :)

It does take a bit of time to get what Martyn Bennett is trying to do (and why it is awesome!) but I was genuinely surprised to see how low a score this song has. For a radio station with a genuinely diverse playlist, its listeners sometimes come across as pretty conservative. I'm just glad that Bill plays what he likes and doesn't pay too much attention to our opinions!

I find that my ratings go up with the ammount of cocktails I've consumed. Apparently I need more cocktails for this song. Many cocktails.

...hey, martyn bennett on RP, cool!..

Interesting. After the song ended I heard Bill's comments, and checked the song page. My initial response to the song was to clap along with the rythm, so I was quite surprised to find the general dislike. I hadn't even noticed the voice. I had to listen to a youtube version just to understand what everyone was complaining about.
thanks bill—made me turn volume WAY up—-I'd like more of this kind of movable music—-and NOW 'dirty knife'!, another fav—-thanks for all you do to keep it MIXED
Ha!  Just heard Bill express his appreciation for this artist, which prompted me to look at the ratings.  Yeah, strong feelings!  I can see both sides.  I had to turn down the volume, but loved the all-out-there exuberant performance.  {#Yes}
I absolutely LOVE this song. It's best in a car, really loud, but then, you may get a speeding ticket. Can't help but to MOVE when it comes on.{#Dancingbanana_2}
Wow — this is the lowest rated song I've ever seen on RP! And it deserves it — it sounds like it was literally painful for the musicians to create it.
One of the true godfathers of Celtic dance fusion.
Is, and will always be truly missed.
For anyone wishing to get 'in' on this act,
go get 'Bothy Culture'.
This song is a good representation of a truly gifted individual.
Awesome!
{#Notworthy}
I'm actually diggin' it. I like the folk instruments. But it's just on the edge. I can understand why so many people find it grating.

First time I've had to turn off Radio Paradise.  Please don't play this song again.

{#High-five} Nice!

I like it.  Not love it, but I'm glad this song, and songs like it are in the playlist.

Just had to add that because of Bill's comment.
I second it - like fingernails on a chalkboard

Ick. My internet browser actually crashed while this song was on. A coincidence? Probably not.
Single most irritating song I have heard.  Please make it stop.
Not sure what this is.....hummmm
LOVE IT!
This is terrible.
shit on a stick.
Fingernails on a chalkboard is more soothing.
Nice!
I love this song!!! It's been so long since I've heard it.  Wayy cool!!!
(Some may disagree ;^)  )

IIRC, somebody had a barfing emoticon response to go along with it!

Ha! I like the dissonance of it. Thanks, Bill, I hadn't heard this one before!
When I first heard this I thought my cat got hurt and was screaming in pain.

While I can certainly sympathize with anyone who really doesn't like this, it rocked my day! Fever Ray on hyperdrive...
Unfortunately his vocals remind me of Jerry Lewis at his worst.
Is that Yoko vocalizing her cat scratch vocal chords?
I cranked the bass and opened my mind, but I still do not get it.
Looks like I'm in the minority here but the tune is inventive and challanging, even the voice. Lots of fun.
This is pretty cool.
Agree with others - a great beat but HORRIBLE voice!  This COULD be an awesome tune, and.....it is NOT!  Bill can you mix out the vocals?!  ;-)

Well. I enjoy it, in moderation. Play it at least occasionally, Mr. G. All the naysayers: Crank the bass, and think Gaelic. RIP, Martyn.
I don't like the singing, but I like the beat! I am surprised to hear from Bill on these posts. From all the thousands of posts that I have read about the hundreds of songs that play on RP, I had only seen posts from Bill commenting on technical qualities of the uploads and to admonish my inappropriate political commentary (BTW, I am trying very hard to be good....). It is good to hear from you Bill about your opinions about the songs! Now, hearing the next song, from the Propellerheads, shows me that this awful singing is meant to be some kind of cool kitsch. I don't know....
Interesting 'tune'. I think it might get better with repeated hearings... Then again... But I'm hopeful!
WTF *IS* this?!?!?!?!? Yoko Ono's poorly trained prodigy? God, make it stop!!!!! -10 is not low enough!

Jezuz, Bill, can't you take this one out of rotation?? I mean, look at the rating, man!
Good lord, the unthinkable has happened. I upped my rating for this song! I'm going no higher than 2!
This is like, the worst singing in the world. Is this a joke?
I love this song, just crank it up and you'll grow to like it too!

I bumped it from 6 to 7. Nothing I would buy but that's why I don't just listen to my cd collection.

I had RP going on my PC downstairs, I rushed down because it sounded like one of the cats was dying.... What horrible shite!!! Let's just all agree that we don't need to endure this again.
What's with all the negative comments. This one's interesting and has nice bass sounds... :) Though admittedly the singing's pretty annoying. 6/10
#-o Good God, make it stop.
"Now is the time on Sprockets vhen ve dance" I like it. Gets a 6. Course the Propellerheads that follows gets a 9.
Truly awful.
