If you call me up, I'll say a few words
But I'll try not to speak too long
Please to be kind and I'll try to explain
I'll probably get it all wrong
What does it mean when you promise someone
That no matter how hard or whatever may come

It means that I won't give in, won't give in, won't give in
'Cause everyone I love is here
play it once, and disappear

Once in a while I return to the fold
And people I call my own
Even if time is just a flicker of light
And we all have to die alone
What does it mean when you belong to someone
When you're born with a name, and you carry it on

It means that I won't give in, won't give in, won't give in
'Cause everyone I love is here
All at once, and I'll show you how to get here

Come on now, come on now, can you feel it, I can see it in ya
Come on now, come on now, reveal it, turn around won't ya
The right time, the right place, right now, turn around

A chance is made, a chance is lost,
I carry myself to the edge of the earth

It means that I won't give in, won't give in, won't give in
'Cause everyone I love is here
Say it once, just say it, and disappear

What a brilliant Finn Brothers album this is. Thank you RP for reminding me.
Bought it when it came out and got to go and listen to it all right now. Don't worry Bill, I'll be back in 60 minutes for more perfection!
I always love to hear their voices together.

When you have a chance, play 'Only Talking Sense'.
{#Chillpill}
I thought this was Arcade Fire there for a moment.
This song really spoke to me and helped get me through a hard time a number of years ago.  Thank you, Neil and Tim Finn!  Thank you for playing it again, RP!
cant believe it's been that long since was released thanks bill !

What amazes me is that for all their differences, when it's just the two of them, they make magic.
It's Missing You, no? But with some harmonies. Doesn't make up for the dullness though. On the other hand, this song gets full marks for the density of clichés in its lyric. Might come in handy teaching idioms to non-natives.

Ah! That's why it sounds familiar-ish. Really diggin' it.

Don't know "savage garden."

Oh, did you miss the Yoko Ono songs? Dengue Fever? Sufjan Stevens? {#Lol} Maybe you like these musicians...I know I don't. I like to imitate the Dengue Fever singer when one of their songs come on. I get the feeling that Sufjan was and perhaps is bullied a lot. I want to pass the hat around to buy him a spine.

Yoko...I'm sorry. Some people just shouldn't sing.

Hard to believe it's already been 9 years since this enchantingly endearing album came out!  Still sounds mighty fine!
..just felt like breaking the string of Sting-y comments..anybody seen him lately?..sorta miss that crazy curmudgeon..

..also: 8!..

I have two fins and none is my brother. True is, I am not a stingray, I am a shark!

A long secret finally lifted!

Thank you!

You are 100% right, Nadinchen - you're just a Teeny!

Stop talking about things you have no clue about!

GREAT ALBUM - GREAT BROTHERS - GREAT MUSIC!

For the detractors: Drive through that gorgeous country sometime with the Finns playing on the radio.

You'll understand...

TWO good artists equals two great artists. Fantastic and I love anything they do.
Exquisite songwriting. Really love this album.
Good - I agree!
(and I like them anyway).

Still - compare to "WOODFACE".

Two worlds collide!

Foolproof genius.
Not Byrds. McCartney Lennon.
"What does it mean when you're born with a name and you carry it on?"
Byrds anyone?
"Even if time is just a flicker of light
And we all have to die alone"

- Finn Brothers (this song!)
"Everybody dies alone."

- Malcolm Reynolds (Firefly)
"Every creature on this earth dies alone."

- Roberta Sparrow (Donnie Darko)
Saw the boy's in concert a few years ago.  Neil is a great talent. His brother Tim, that's another story.

Very happy these cats are still blessing us with their talent.

Neil Finn is one of the best songwriters of the last 50 years his music ( including crowded house) is the type that you can listen to over and over again and get something new about it his lyrics are full of meaning sometimes it takes a few listens but well worth the effort. Crowded House are touring this summer check them out!

I saw them live a couple of years ago. Absolutely awesome great show. Neil Finn is very engaging and the band is amazing. Go see!!

Thanks again. It's just right... now...
Thank you for this, Bill.  It's helping clear that rotten Cake from my ears...

Great
I thought that Perth WA was in the USA. Washington State. Had to Google to find out you were talking about the real Perth in Australia.
I have this album and it is so excellent! Neil Finn is amazing in his writing skills. His lyrics are so deep.
Let's see them on tour this yr! Hope it's not just Neil.

@ cloth ears comment, which is also brilliant.
Remembered Split Enz and though they were good.... Crowded House - quietly grows on you ...... Finn Brothers re-unite once again and they just get better or is it that my musical tastes are maturing ???

agree, and gentle hum is pretty fine in its own way too.
Very appealing tune, nicely done
Those Finn voices have lately started to have an influence on me...

Wouldn't have guessed the Crowded House connection. Very cool groove.
Love those Finn harmonies!
goodvibes!
McCartney and Lennon of our day, these brothers. It means that I won't give in.
Oh....i love this...especially the break down at the end... play more finns!!
Go the New Zealanders! Awesome music by these guys - luv it!

Saw them live last year and they were fantastic. Excellent songcrafters. They exemplify that sometimes pop music can attain greatness, comlexity and melody.

Probably the #1 melody of the year...one of the catchiest songs of the year by far...most of the album is excellent!
Bought this CD over the weekend. Somewhat mellow, but very good nonetheless.

But, IINM they are from New Zealand... Neil
I like some other songs much better than this particular one. But, having said that, I could listen to Neil sing about anything and be content. Not everything can be the best.... There couldn't even be a best without the rest.
Have just returned from seeing The Finns live in Oxford this evening they still got it! and a great set with some of the old faves from the Split Enz days like Six Months in a Leaky Boat, I See Red, I Got You and Message to my Girl 8)

This doesn't do it for me the way their music usually does.

Actually, these guys get NO airplay on commercial radio (at least in the Atlanta area) so it is really cool that we can tune in and hear it somewhere. Also, when you as big a fan as I am, it is nice to know that their music is getting out there.
I like it, but it gets played too much. I'm beginning to tire of it.

Ouch, Bill..... the entire CD makes me think this should have been "Woodface II". Their first CD was good, but this one is even better, IMHO.
Sounds alot like the Rembrandts. Nice... simple.

I disagree. Sure it's probably the most obvious single and hence the most 'pop'-ey of the tracks on the album, but I'd rather listen to their worst song than 99% of the dreck that passes for top 40 these days. Check out their new album... A lot of people have been eagerly awaiting a new Finn Bros album and IMHO it doesn't disappoint. A bunch of intelligent and listenable songs. Also, for those that might be worried, it's less 'experimental' than their first collaberation ('Finn').
