Out of this
I will confront you at last you dreaded empty
When I met you in others I fell in love
From the bottle, to the cradle, to the needle to the bed
We all need something to deliver us from dread

But I believe in truth

Out of this noise, here comes the stillness
Out of this chaos, here comes the order
Out of this language, out of this language
Out of these words

And a hollow man leaves you empty-handed
With fingers carved from Asian ivory
From the cradle, to the treadmill, to the rocker, to the last sigh
Some are made happy when something dies

Out of this...

Shitsujo, seijaku, shinjitsu

Out of patience, out of deed
Out of courage, out of me
Out of reason, out of truth
Out of conscience, out of you

Konran kara shitsujo ga umare
Soon kara seijaku ga umareru
Shinjitsu wa ai o umu

Rate 9. Really Great. Why are here no lyrics?
First time to hear this.  Caught my ear.  Rate it 7 for now.
Wow.
It would be nice without that howling crow for a backup singer.
Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo! During this, I actually got up and said "I think I'll put on some music!"
If I heard this at 8:20 a.m. in my own time zone I'd seriously consider whether to go to work. But that's just me.

Well, "not necessarily all bad, but odd" would be 1/3 of Bill's playlist ....

Wow, I have not heard this in a while.  Last played 2012!  Have I really been listening to RP that long?

Okay - this is growing on me. Embarassed
Maybe there should be rating for "Odd." Not necessarily all bad, but odd.
{#No}
Maybe it was the context, but I was so bored by this song. Totally hoping for something more fulfilling.
Love this song. Carol Keogh is a phenomenal singer. People really should seek out her other work before calling her a Tori wannabe.
I'm wondering if that's Kate Bush on backing vocals. Sure sounds a lot like her.

Beautiful song.

This album is surprisingly good.  Quirky, fun, and low-key enough to listen to at work.

Here is a compendium of what those weird but cool whoops in the backing vocals have variously been called for the last 6 years, with attribution. Send in your votes now!

background "ouch!" (crockydile 2010)
cat purring (Vivakitty 2009)
beep in the background (Imic 2009)
howling dogs (glockman45 2007)
Howoling women (kindermanltd 2007)
weird warble (ituner 2007)
alarm clock going off? (geavis 2004)
girl getting goosed (Hannio 2004)
The vocals turned me off, but upon learning the lyrics, I found the vocals fit perfectly.  Sometimes, it's not about how pleasant or rhythmic a song is, but how well the words fit the music...{#Meditate}{#Sunny}
Reminded me a bit of Eva Dahlgren of Sweden

What an annoying song. That background "ouch!" is abysmal {#Puke}.

I reeeeally appreciate your finding something pleasant about the chirper. I hear a small, attention starved chihuahua in the distance constantly barking for someone to come out and give it some attention.

I am hearing echoes of Stephanie Nicks.
Really lovely.
So, I have RP playing in the living room and on the patio and I'm in the kitchen with my windows open - my version of surround sound. When I heard the first "whoop" in this song, I was sure it was one of my neighbors outside. I thought "man, he's excited about that BBQ."

I've heard a few things from these guys and really like them.  I think I'm going to have to buy some of their music.  Would love to hear Skimming Stones on here.

Every time I hear this, I think it's Kate Bush. I'm sure someone else has already commented on this.
Probing lyrics from childlike voices. Great juxtaposition.

I rated this a 7 last time, apparently. The music is OK (though more like a 6 than a 7) but now that I've read the lyrics I have to agree with the "stupid 'we think we are deep'" comment. This song sounds like somebody who wants to Matter To Society(tm) but hasn't picked a Cause(tm) to Support(tm). But that hasn't stopped them from adopting a Serious Mein(tm) or from writing Deep Poetry(tm).
absolutley incredibley unremarkable.

I love this song! I heard it on a movie and i am unable to download it. Can someone please send it to me. Thank you
Call the Cops,RP been Hi-Jacked!
This is the second time I've heard this song, and for the second time, I've had to mute it to determine if my alarm is going off. What's up with that?
Incredibly beautiful

WOW! This is awful. And it keeps getting worse...

all the dogs in the neighborhood are howling along with this song. the background singing is very similar to a hound dogs howlings. please make it stop! easily a 1, sucko barfo
ah so, more melodic incompetence. best to keep the trend up...

stupid. "We think we are deep" music
The Postal Service does Tori Amos. 'Nuff said. :)
While I find this song ultimately unsatisfying, I give it credit for at least being so unapologetically itself.
Too much like Kate Bush and she doesn't get my vote either. I know, I know.
i think i need to give these guys more attention. the only song of theirs that caught my ear right away & kept me was jellyman.
I like except for the backing vocals, which get on my nerves. Still rates at least a 7 though.
It was not I, but DMay (no hard feelings, fellow poster, though I disagree with your take on this song) who miscreated the phrase "constitutes as". It is good to know that there are still people who take grammar seriously in a web riddled with acronyms; misuse of "their"/"they're"/"there", "who's"/"whose" and the like; and all the neo-hipster English reconstructionists creating a new vernacular akin to that of the constantly evolving dialectal hip-hop wordsmiths. Thanks for the 1/2 point, though. sans wrote:
By definitiion, the passive verb 'constitutes', implies that it is refering to the noun clause, 'poor English' so the relative pronoun 'as' is altogether unecessary. Furthermore, constitutes is a poor word choice and 'equates to' would have been more clear. You do get a half a point for capitalizing English.
Oh, and I agree with the Kate Bush thing. Bush's new album is brilliant.

Very Zen... and beautiful
I guess this shows what happens when Laurie Anderson's artistic pretensions are abraded by a longing for commercial success...

We go from a repeated theremin whistle to a repeating "A-woo" noise. Good segue. =D
Could have been great but for that background "goose" sound. That was just annoying!
hey all..i have been listening and reading for a while and thought i would chime in...anyone hear a (good) Traci Chapman kind a thang? that kind of somber but hopeful at the same time kind of groove?

Me too.
Sort of a Bonnie Tyler "Total Eclipse" backing vocal thing going on: "turn around, bright eyes..." I like it, though...Baby Animals and/or Divinyls touches.
The singer reminds me of Tori Amos. What a strange toon. 8O
