I've never been too good with names.
The cellar door was open, I could never stay away.
I know it's prob'ly not my place.
It's either or, I'm hoping for a simple way to say.

It's a shame about Ray.
In the stone, under the dust,
his name is still engraved.
Some things need to go away.
It's a shame about Ray.

If I make it through today,
I'll know tomorrow not to leave my feelings out on display.
I'll put the cobwebs back in place.
I've never been too good with names,
but I remember faces.

Was just jamming this today on my way over the hill to Louisville at lunch-time. KILLER song, great to sing along to with the volume up and the windows down! And local legal refreshments, too, of course!

I misheard it as “it’s a shame about race” and my mind immediately jumped to the current racial tension worldwide . Even at her most beautiful/drug-free/stable Courtney Love was someone normal people should have just run away from. So needy, annoying and destructive. Maybe Dando matched her at the time for being a walking mess.

Except this album was released in June of '92, and we pretty much heard Confetti, the title track, and the S&G cover everywhere the last half of that year. "Come On, Feel The Lemonheads" (a worthy follow-up) came out in '93.

I used to hate Evan and the Lemonheads for this. Way too much publicity for one hit song. I always thought that they were way overrated. Now, when they really are a one-hit wonder and all the publicity and hype have died away, I can find myself enjoying this song. Good riddance to Evan, wherever he is.

I've been reading stories in the Boston press for 20 years about this guy, most of them of the "Evan Dando, formerly of the Lemonheads, is poised to make yet another comeback" variety. Why do I care? I don't. But there's that song again, the only one that anyone ever plays. I'm done now.
