I remember discovering this song in late 1996 in a promotional CD that was included with a music discography book at Hastings.  It had some other good tracks on it.  In retrospect I think it was promoting a mid-1990s British rock label.

Why do people feel the need to say this. People live different lives and listen to different kinds of music.  I never heard of Blur until tuning into RP.  Just like the hundreds of other artists that I've heard here that were once new to me. I honestly think I can name one Blur song off the top of my head. And it isn't this one.  There were way better bands to listen to back in 91. (in my opinion)

By your rationale, it's a 10. It is a proper Madchester tune. They weren't a Madchester band, since most of their songs weren't that style, but this song ticks off every box for the Baggy genre IMO.

When this came out the madchester baggy scene was still in full effect. It' kinda died out around '97.

It's always interesting to see the non-public side of celebrities like rock stars. They're often pretty limited and emotionally stunted. Liam was and is a complete dick, but Patsy doesn't come across as terribly strong or self-assured ("But she said that she was "terrified of going out" because of the shame of people knowing how she was abandoned"  after Liam moved out of their home). 

Britney Spears takes the cake, though. I caught a bit of the TV reality special "Britney and Kevin: Chaotic" and this segment still scares me: people can be famous, accomplished and incredibly stupid:

"With heartbreaking and hilarious earnestness, she asks Federline if he’s seen Back To The Future and consequently can tell her conclusively whether people can actually time-travel in real life. She’s not joking. When Federline assures her that they can’t, Spears says that maybe they can but haven’t quite gotten around to telling her yet."

Sure you can read this snarky description of a stoned Britney babbling as Kevin films her, or watch the clip of this timeless nadir of humanity, but please don't. You will feel dirty, ashamed and angry for wasting precious moments of your life. Stupidity can be contagious, so protect yourself.

I barely remember hearing about that back then--supposedly a serious debate about which band was truly great, with Blur getting slagged mostly. These days Oasis seems like it was really overrated at the time.

Does anyone care about the Gallaghers these days? Has Patsy Kensit dried her tears?

I have this cd - it's the first release from Blur, not an outstanding cd but it has it's moments. This is one of the better songs off it. Brings back memories from the early 90s - when shoegazer bands ruled {#Music}

Because of the intro I was thinking of the way the Stones approach Funk/Soul music, which I can often relate to very much. Well, it appears to be British so in that respect the link is quite obvious. Good sound, though I got my doubts about the song.
