Please don't judge Bettie by this one.  Lamprey (1995, on Matador Records - same time as Pavement!) is their strongest effort, IMO, particularly the songs Something So Wild and Ray Ray Rain.  The lead singer is Carol van Dijk, and I've loved her from afar for all these years.  I'll take a thimble of Carol over a bucket of Lady GaGa any day.

Except Poe sings in key.

This lady has a very untrained sounding voice on this song (hence the Lou Reed comparisons others are making).

Someone once defined (poor) typing as the combination of two little fingers with one little keyboard.

Do you mean two few fingers and too much keyboard?
Good song; sweet production.
Nice cover.

Idunno, mebbe a bit like Karen O from the Yeah Yeah Yeahs - although a bit subdued
Has anyone out there been to the "It's Tough to be a Bug" show at Walt Disney World's Animal Kingdom? Does the background track remind you of that, a little?
can't wait to hear them record a new version of this after her head cold clears up.
Bumped from 3 to 4, mostly because I'm feeling a bit unsound today.

Huh, it is Dutch and I do not know the band? Shame on me!
Nice to hear this on RP Bettie is one of my favorite groups
Groovy. Jeez, I always hated that word. But it applies here.
Niice unsound voice.
Please start playing this as much as anything by Porcupine Tree.
Unsound. Unheard would be better.
I just said OMG. please someone slap me.
OMG! please please more Bettie Seervert!

I agree! Reminded me of him as well first hear.
This great groove has that restrained, subtle power which is almost punk, with more melody and emotion and without incessant anger and raving.
Sings like a female Lou Reed.

My thoughts exactly.
Hope y'all will forgive, but the guitar works sound exactly like Marillion...and I don't know why. 8O Likeable tune...know nothing about her/them...more data required.

oh hey I love this song. what a surprise to hear it on radio paradise. :D

Good to know. Funnily enough, I was about to come in here and re-post the same thought upon hearing this song again today... only to find that I beat myself to it 3 months ago. Fortunately I still agree with myself. :?

Bettie Serveert, Dutch for Bettie to serve, is the title of a tennis instruction book by one-time pro Bettie Stöve. Good to see this song made it to the playlist as yet. It's been uploaded before but received a sorry then. Luckily sometimes there's a second chance (and of course the Dutch listeners more and more make their presence felt at RP )
This Dutch band has put out a few really great albums. I'm floored that they're getting some airplay on RP. (Nice Job Bill) .Though not my fav. of their discography, this disc moves past "Dust Bunnies". Give "Palomine" a listen for some pure pop delight.
You got me there, just tunend in and for a moment I was in doubt about the station I was listening to :) Qute, never expected to hear Bettie Serveert on RP. 8O Greetz from Holland
"Mmmmmmmmmmmmm..........Berry Sherbert!.............Aurghhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!" =P~
Saw this group out of the blue (with no advance buzz or p.r.) at South by Southwest in Austin last March. It was great fun to see a DUTCH band in ol Tejas. They played a great 45-minute set for a very appreciative and very PACKED house... in a bar that the SXSW folks try to pass off as a venue!
