This is simply a laid back, gravelly vocal by a seasoned European singer-guitarist with a very respected track record.  Not many can touch his slide playing, either.

He has a huge body of work, going all the way back to "Fool If You Think It's Over" in 1978.

oh, you should have just tried Coldplay from the beginning which, indeed, is really dull ... Chris Rea, on the other hand, gets you out of a nightmarish or insomnic lack of taste in music and provides pleasant dreams...

Hmm starting out nicely,.... I feel a hot dusty wind against my face. The heat is kind of shimmering on the dry grass covered hills. I'm a little parched. I'm waiting for something. I can feel it getting closer. Closer. Nope, I can't quite make it out. Crap, he started to sing. The whole image has evaporated. He should have stuck with the instrumental.
