Say goodbye on a night like this
If it's the last thing we ever do
You never looked as lost as this
Sometimes it doesn't even look like you

It goes dark
It goes darker, still, please stay
But I watch you like I'm made of stone
As you walk away

I'm coming to find you if it takes me all night
A witch hunt for another girl
For always and ever is always for you
Your trust, the most gorgeously stupid thing I ever cut in the world

Say hello on a day like today
Say it everytime you move
The way that you look at me now
Makes me wish I was you

It goes deep
It goes deeper still this touch
And the smile and the shake of your head
And the smile and the shake of your head

I'm coming to find you if it takes me all night
Can't stand here like this anymore
For always and ever is always for you
I want it to be perfect like before

Oh, I want to change it all
Oh, I want to change

I'm coming to find you if it takes me all night
Can't stand here like this anymore
For always and ever is always for you
I want it to be perfect like before

Oh, I want to change it all
Oh, I want to change
Oh, I want to change it all
Oh, I want to change

Icehouse came into being when Australian group FLOWERS signed a global recording deal with Chrysalis Records and were compelled to change their name in 1980 for legal reasons – a number of bands called ‘Flowers’ already existed in the US and Britain.

The atmosphere and the saxophone part  alone makes this a standout piece of music
Saw them in my hometown christchurch nz in about 1980 - 81 when they were promoting their Seventeen Seconds album from 1980.   F@@k  40 years ago !!!!                   It was a very loud dark heavy concert which my mate and I were blown away by  after having indulged in some good herb beforehand. I was possibly the oldest in the audience of 2000 at nearly 30 .  The young crowd on leaving seemed subdued and I dont believe they expected anything as loud and dark. We found that extremely amusing.   I prefer their earlier dark work as in this album and Pornography, to their poppier stuff. But whatevere they do they do it well

Absolutely! Edgy and VERY DARK. The last album before his initial recovery period and the launch of Japanese Whispers (Cure Pop!).

They're so wonderful. I'm not biased at all. Where is the missing but necessary gothic daisy flower emoji?

Couldn't find a daisy flower, but there you go:

Since most of us here have never heard you speak, we'll have to trust your written word about that condition of yours.
Never enough Cure. This is timeless brilliance.

I love this song live. Great memories of The Head on The Door.

Ha, I got the exact opposite feeling: this feels like formulaic Cure to me. Good, but background music.

I need to dust off this disk...if I remember there are some real gems on this effort...
Can't say I have ever heard this one. But hell. It's The Cure so it'd gotta be good. Soooooo luuuuuuuuvv these guys.

Not a big fan of The Cure, but this song is brilliant - love the chimey guitars!! {#Cheers}

My favourite song from these chaps, probably.  Fabulous.
What an obsession this must have been for the poet of this song
What a great, great song.  Holds up in any decade.  When The Cure are good, they are VERY good.
LOVE this song ... I haven't heard it in years ... Love you, RP   :-)
Nice to hear one of the lesser played Cure songs.
As great as this song is (and The Cure are) there are soo many other songs I would rather see in The Cure playlist that have never been given the public exposure they deserve. From The Edge Of The Deep Green Sea, Play For Today, The Kiss...etc.

Off to see the Cure at a festival in Ireland next week - this song makes me very very excited. I last saw them (and first time) in 1987 at Wembley Arena! This song brings tears to my eyes - don't know why...
Brings back memories of my angsty early 90s days. Wasn't a huge goth fan, but I really liked the Cure's songwriting. They are consummate musicians in their genre. {#Drummer}
Oh man, I don't like too many Cure songs, but this one is fantastic!! {#Cheers}
Never get past the cry-baby voice.
Maybe my favourite from The Cure - just something about it. Damn fine writing, Robbo. I gave it a 9!
Happy Music!!

(insert gun in mouth)
Rainy nights in San Francisco, sitting at my siblings' flat in the Mission, eating a burrito and talking about heading up to the Castro for a beer. 1985? Something like that. My BFF was still alive and making us laugh, and AIDS wasn't killing everyone yet. This song is that time period.
A VERY fine Cure track!
Yea, this is one of the good'ns from The Cure!{#Clap}

They kind of remind me of Arcade Fire on this track. {#Lol}
goth juice

Goth Juice.  The most powerful hairgel known to man!  Made from the tears of Robert Smith.

one of my all time favorite songs. pretty depressing song but still love it.
These guys are going to be at Coachella. Good times! {#Cowboy}
never been the big Cure Fan,
but this one got something ... very nice, good pick!

Simply unchangable...
I love this song in the 'In Orange' concert video - they filmed it in slow-motion but the timimg is matched up. Brilliant...
Love the rythme work on this track.

Variety, yo. I've never heard this one before, but I like it!

perhaps because mediocre cure is better than the the average radio tune, and on par w/ the RP satandard?

Was browsing CDs last weekend and saw a "deluxe" remastered 2disc edition of this album. (I'm sticking with my non-remastered copy.) Have to give it a spin one of these days.
got both, but if you have to buy it, it seems the single cd versions that are out there now are also remastered! (but done in a very good way by Robert himself (with some help i'm sure), not just making everything louder etc) this is a very good time to get the Kiss Me album as well because it is remastered AND it now contains Hey You! (just like the 2LP in days of old) The 2cd deluxe packages are OK, but the only thing that really makes them worth buying, apart from the odd "new" song (in a very rudimentary version, they nevermade it past the demo stage) is the Live tracks, which are great.
from the sublime to the rediculous...
Great Tune...love Robert's distinct voice!
Live version is good too
With so many GREAT Cure songs, why are we listening to this mediocre one?
Reminds me of my military time spent in Germany in the early 90's. Excellent !
awesome memories of this time in my life...even though Smitty is a bit spooky looking, even to this day (just with 20lbs added on)

wonderful, wonderful, wonderful tune...
I've always enjoyed this song, but had never realized just how similar it is to some of the stuff the Psychadelic Furs did. Not sure if this preceded the Furs' World Outside or not, but if you like this, give them a spin.
Tremendous. (8)

Wow! A Cure song that didn't sound like a cat in heat. I'm amazed.

First album I had on a tape when I got my first Sony Walkman for Christmas (remember how cool those were before the era of Ipods?)....played this album to DEATH and still love it. This song especially.
"You're just the most gorgeously stupid thing..." My favorite Cure song, hands down. Can't believe I voted it a 10, but I just can't put it any lower....
smashing pumpkins has an awesome version w/ james singing.
Excellent song! I was needing this, 'a night like this...'
