As someone who is continually amazed by all the people who whine on here about not being able to stand Neil Young's voice, this may sound strange and totally hypocritical, but -- I cannot stand this guy's voice. And I can't fathom how people can say he sounds "just like" Neil. He sounds NOTHING like Neil! Neil's voice on the original of this song is almost painfully sad and naive at the same time. This guy just sounds like some drunk slurring the lyrics. Feh!
I liked this a lot, a poor recording, but that doesn't detract from the beauty of the oringal song and the lovely performance that seems to be true to the spirit of the work. or to be more succinct I think its great

wow - pretty harsh comments hahahaha. well i guess bill or rebecca (maybe both) liked it enough to add without any LRC votes at all. although thom yorke rarely covers anything like this, it was at the Bridge School Benefit Concert (organized by Young and his wife) so that's why he covered it, before he played this he said "This is piano is Neil Young's Piano, and this piano is making me do this..." i thought it was a good cover. :-k well maybe my second upload will make people happier...
Thanks so much for uploading this! I thought it was a great performance ...Yorke could have played it safe with any number of Radiohead hits, but he went way out on a limb, performing a difficult classic with no support but an old beat-up piano...it's so much easier to ridicule than it is to listen...where the heck did you find this recording?
I like. Thought it was The Flaming Lips' Wayne Coyne at first, though.

this is from "Bridge School Benefit," a special school Neil's son attends
Thanks, after all the years of hearing about the concerts I never bothered to find out what the school was all about : (click here) Now I know.
And so is Thom Yorke :)

Thom Yokre is so awesome.
Margo is how it is spelled dimwit. Oh yeah, Timmins also. BTW - they (Cowboy Junkies that is) have not covered "After the Goldrush". Some other Neil Young tunes to be sure, but not this one. s Gregorama wrote:

Indeed, I really thought this was Neil Young. By the way, this sounds pretty weird on headphones, as if it was recorded in one of those 'Dixi' portable toilets next to the stage.
please make it stop!
Terrible singing but at least we can barely hear it.

fair version of an absolute classic tune....very sad lyrics though. Well, I dreamed I saw the silver Space ships flying In the yellow haze of the sun, There were children crying And colors flying All around the chosen ones. All in a dream, all in a dream The loading had begun. They were flying Mother Nature's Silver seed to a new home in the sun. Flying Mother Nature's Silver seed to a new home........................................
Sorry dont like Niel in the first place - but this is even worse.

hope your second upload is better than the first...
Nice, but would rather hear someone add their own twist or arrangment when covering a song, even if they're not that successful in the process. This sounds pretty much like Neil.
pretty nice. what CD is it off of?
In the immortal words of Hank Hill "just kill me now!"
I thought it was Radiohead. Looked it up and he is the Radiohead guy. I kind of agree with Arbiter, but at least it's a faithful cover. Better than the whiney Margeaux Timmons covers.

What's the point? It sounds just the same as Neil. I never would have guessed it was a cover. Edit: ...Sounds like him, until his voice cracks. Numerous times.
I thought it sounded like Neil, too...a version I had never heard. If I gotta listen to bad singing, I'd prefer the original. I have a lot of admiration for Neil Young (and own a lot of his music), but he really can't sing worth a damn. Drop this cover and play the original.
Agreed, adds nothing to the original

What he said.
