all the young dudes
feather'd & possessed
a sparkling sequined mess,
so special
& so eloquent
heavensent
what I meant to say is
of all the sounds I hear
with my humble human ear none
are as delicious
or nutritious.

o roxy,
you're my maggie may
more beautiful tonight
than you ever were back in the day
o roxy, your golden boys
make a beautiful noise
after all these years
you still bring tears to my eyes.

sweeter sounds
from space were never heard.
or a perfect turn of word,
like a whirlwind,
you blow in again
& all the songs
have been in my head
& heart for o so long
It's like listening to a kiss.
oh, you'll never know
how very much we missed you,
dearest

o roxy,
you're my maggie may
more beautiful tonight
than you ever were back in the day
o roxy, your golden boys
make a beautiful noise
after all these years
you still bring tears to my eyes.

Goes on a little too long. I think they liked their lyrics so much they wanted to make sure we got it. OK, enough already.
of all the Concrete Blonde songs in the world, it's a real shame we're subjected to this one...
The drummer sounds as though he can't quite keep up. Perhaps distractedly preoccupied with wondering why they chose that vocalist. :-s

goes from 9 to 10 for me...

Perhaps it could be a bit more repetitive. Um...maybe not.
Oy. This song drives me nuts.
Ok...love it....but this isn't the only Concrete Blonde song. This one's in too heavy a rotation.
damm, already a 9.... Excellent song I love the phase shifter effects on the guitar... killer... rocks...

I didn't care for this at all. Music and lyrics seemed really lame to me. "You're my Maggie May" ? That was bad enough when Rod Stewart sang it 30 years ago.
Sorry--completely different songs. Rod's "Maggie May" still rocks!

Well, I can't say I can't stand 'em, but "you're my Maggie May" is quite banal. Nevertheless, I'm pulled in. Probably after the 10th RP play I'll want to give this a "1", but for now it's a "7".

There's your problem, right there.

Concrete Blonde are one of my FAV's, so overlooked......loved all the songs J. Napolitano and the band wrote to accompany the Ann Rice Vampire novels. Can't get enough...how about playing 'bloodletting' and 'God is a bullett', 'Walking in London' or 'Mexican Moon'?
I think I'm actually liking this
I'm floored by the guitar work. I've never heard anything like it. Can't stand the vocals though.
Moves from 8 to 9 Damn that's good!
I'm surprised no one has commented on the Roxy Music connection. The Great Paul Thompson (as he is called) was drummer for both Roxy Music and Concrete Blonde. This song was probably written during Roxy Music's reunion tour in 2001. Sure seems like it if you follow the lyrics.

There are references to several other songs from glam rockers, including the reference to Maggie May (oldie but hottie?) from the Rod Stewart song.
It's like Concrete Blonde took Bowie's 'China Girl' and James McMurtry's 'Levelland' and made a new song. Not bad.
It's got that glamrock appeal, though it sounds contemporary, just the same. Nice song!
CB on RP is OK!

Nice choice. How do you s'pose "Take Me Home" would fare?
