Blue moon
Ooh-ooh-oooh...
Ooh-ooh-oooh...
Without a love of my own

Blue moon
You saw me standing alone
Without a dream in my heart
Without a love of my own

Blue moon
You knew just what I was there for
You heard me saying a prayer for
Someone I really could care for

Oooh...ooh-ooh
Oooh-ooh-ooh-ooh
Without a love of my own

Blue moon
You saw me someone standing alone
Without a dream in my heart
Without a love of my own

Oooh...ooh-ooh
Oooh-ooh-ooh-ooh
Without a love of my own

Blue moon
Oooh...ooh-ooh
Oooh-ooh-ooh-ooh
Without a love of my own

La luna
Esta, en el cielo
Con todas las estrellas
Riendo muy elegante
Oooh...ooh-ooh
Oooh-ooh-ooh-ooh
Without a love of my own

Oooh...ooh-ooh
Oooh-ooh-ooh-ooh

she had good taste.
A golden voice and a very entertaining group live.
My best friend Jules passed away a few months ago and this was his favorite song. He would listen to Radio Paradise all the time. I miss him.
Love this . Saw them live once. Fantastic.

Or Ricky Nelson.
One of the finest tunes ever recorded. Love every bit of it.
Boring.
LOVE this! Thank you to the Mavericks to putting a new sound to a wonderful old song.

Wow, I thought this was Elvis....

Good lord, what a quasimodo. I can practically see them drooling all over the keyboard while pounding this out.
Some parts of this may make aliens' heads explode. BTW, that's the wrong CD cover shown. Yeah, I know, I already said that.
Not my favorite version, but the singer does have a beautiful voice.
I would REALLY love to hear the Elvis version played here on RP....best version IMHO

How about typos like "seriouly"?
We need more yodelling on RP. Maybe that "Lonesome Cattle Call" that opens Gus Van Zandt's My Own Private Idaho?

Of course, regardless of the spelling, I disagree with your opinion. I like the song, and I quite like this version.
Somebody doesn't understand what makes Blue Moon popular.

I thought that was due to the british diet... JUST KIDDING! But if some boy came howling after MY daughter like the fella in this song, I'd introduce him to my shotgun collection.... Good tune, though.

Ok I bought the cd listed on this page FOR THIS SONG (regardless of the obvious fact this song was not listed... bonus track maybe?) and it was not there. It's a good album, but hey, this is not the right cd for this song.
"Blue Moon" appears on O, What a Thrill: An Introduction to the Mavericks (MCA 1940, 2001), an album not listed in the group's AMG discography (?!). I couldn't find it on any of the AMG listed releases. Go figure.

OK here goes: The remarkable saga of Blue Moon epitomizes what Rodgers & Hart went through when they were under contract to M.G.M. In its first version the melody that became Blue Moon was intended for Jean Harlow to sing in Hollywood Party. It was called Prayer. Neither Miss Harlow nor Prayer appeared in Hollywood Party. In its second life the "Prayer/Blue Moon" tune was given a new lyrics and became the title song of the 1934 M.G.M film Manhattan Melodrama, which starred Clark Gable , William Powell and Myrna Loy, and was the movie that John Dillinger had been watching when he was gunned down outside the Biograph Theatre In Chicago. The song was also known as "It's Just That Kind Of Play", but was cut from the film before it was ready for release. Manhattan Melodrama Was also reasonable of the third setting of the "Prayer/ Blue Moon" tune. Under its new title "The Bad In Every Man" It was sung by Shirley Ross in the film. The fourth lyric setting of the melody came about when Jack Robbins, Head of the M.G.M.'s publishing company, liked the tune and said he would promote it if Hart would write a more commercial lyrics. The result was Blue Moon.
Cool music and I learned something new? RP rules!

Since it was written by Rogers & Hart in the 1930s, probably for a Broadway musical, I don't know who "did the original." Unless you can find a PlayBill for the original show, we don't know. And that person may never have recorded the song, although they would have sung it 8 times a week for as long as the show ran. Where are our RadioParadise musical historians when we need them?!?

I was about to scoff at those who thought Chris Isaak did a cover of this, then I looked closer and observed that they were talking about Isaak's sound or influence, not that he did this toon. Scoff! There, I scoffed at myself instead. This album has stood the test of time in my collection. This song is one of my least favorites from the album. Definately some better toonz, but this works ahw-rite fer me.
Oh My God! This is just an excellent cover!

How true, how true. His voice is a dream. I envy you for getting to see him, you lucky duck.
I like it, but making me ever so sleepy
Sing it Roy! err, Raul. Uh-oh. The song is not listed on the Amazon album (using the link provided)

Man, gotta agree! Why listen to Led Zeppelin do Gallows Pole (Hangman), when Peter Paul and Mary already did it? Sheesh.

Click the link above for "AMG" Artist Info. Raul Malo is considered to be among the best voices of our time. When he goes off to do non-Mavericks stuff, I think it gets pretty weak, but the Cubano-Country-rock Mavericks stuff can be beautiful and kickin' too. Shares some production/songwriting personnel with Dwight Yoakam.
I agree that Raul has an unmatched voice in todays music and I have been a big fan since The Mavericks first hit the scene. Unfortunately his last solo project left me completely flat (maybe I had too high of expectations)

This song always reminds me of Joe Versus the Volcano. Always liked that movie. "Thank you for my life ..." Don't usually care for the Mavs, think the dude's voice is wayyy overrated (Orbison?? Please!), but this cover is pretty reasonable.

I like it, too. But I'm constantly getting the feeling that RP sidesteps recordings having a history of over-exposure inside the U.S. What about the rest of us?
How often do we here a voice like this. The Mavericks have it all... great musicians, tight arrangement and otherwordly BEAUTIFUL melodies. OK,line up the shots of tequila...
Oh, the influencer of Chris Isaak....me thinks

As Frank Zappa might have said, it's the magic 4-chord progression (C, Am, F, G) used by who knows how many song writers over the decades!

I'll take Chris Issac.
This song gets an automatic '8' just for being an incredible song, then points are added or subtracted for the performance/rendition/interpretation/arrangement. It's hovering in at around a a 7 right now.

the idea that anyone would prefer the cowboy junkies or the marcels to elvis... pure blasphemy. this rendition comes awfully close to the king -- love it.
An appropriate song for this occasion (bedtime).
hmmmmm ... feels an awful lot like blue velvet right here right now ...

Marcels! Marcels! Marcels!
Wow. Nice surprise...
An interesting rendition, a bastard love-child of C&W and doo-wop. Sounded like Ricky Nelson at the start. Wouldn't want to hear this often, but it's a small treat every now and then.
Bop-bop-de-bop shoo-bad-da-bad-da-ding-dong
Love the song, don't care about this version..it seems souless..but that's me
This is nice, but their butt-rocking is better.
Wow, 30 seconds into the song and someone gave it a 10.
Is this Elvis? Please make it stop! We have an animal in my neck of the woods called a Fisher Cat, that howls at night like this. It is unbearable! Some people mistake the shrill call of the Fisher Cat for that of a screaming baby. Stop this, please give us mercy......
Chris Izaak meets....
Most excellent!
