I woke up this morning
Now I understand
What it means to give your life
To just one man
Afraid of feeling nothing
No bees or butterflies
My head is full of questions
And my house is full of lies

Chorus:

This is home, home
And this is home, home
This is home

I found you standing there
When I was seventeen
Now I'm thirty-two
And I can't remember what I'd seen in you
I made a promise
Said it everyday
Now I'm reading romance novels
And dreaming of yesterday

Chorus

I'd like to see the Riviera
And slowdance underneath the stars
I'd like to watch the sun come up
In a stranger's arms

Chorus x2

I'm going crazy
A little every day
And everything I wanted
Is now driving me away
I woke this morning
To the sound of breaking hearts
Mine is full of questions
And it's tearing yours apart...

Have no idea what any of this has to do with Sheryl Crow! Almost sounds like 2 bored housewives, gossiping over the fence!

Talk about a contrast....! The album cover, she looks wretched! Like she just finished digging thru a dumpster! The pic with the write up.... Now THAT is a SC worth looking at! Almost seems denegrating to her, to have such a pic for an album cover!
SUPERB!!  Thanx RP!
one of Sheryl's best!!!

With or without TNMC Sheryl was destined for greatness.  TNMC just helped it to happen sooner (like 2 years, at most).
great slide

That is an underrated album.

I love how she sounds like she just woke up...sexy as hell.
something in her vocal range

A very well put together pop song. Slide guitar coupled with an electric piano? The harmonies and lyrics are very good too. This one has always grabbed me.
Boy, I miss this version of Sheryl...love it.
Sad and haunting. For a rocker, listen to her song 'Steve McQueen'
this one is pretty good for her..stays in her lane
Had Sheryl on shuffle (first four albums) the other day and my wife and I were reminded how great she was back in the day. The song is a favorite of mine, but just about everything she wrote from TNMC for the next ten years was as good as it gets back then. I lost track as she went a little more "pop" and it makes me want to explore her new(er) stuff now too.
What a woman! Lance is an idiot! Should have given up the  tour and kept her.
The fade out at the end of the song is sublime.
Was this written by David Baerwald  but Sheryl took full credit?
On my wedding day, her album was spinning relentlessly in a car
Not a fan..but at least she stays in her vocal range lane here
Devastating.

I do like some of her songs/singing though.

RP fix tab: tab is incorrect! This song is not "Chris Rea - Auberge"
Hmmmm.  Listed song is Chris Rea-Auberge with a  picture of Crow  and the comments were correct.

I saw you on my TV taking credit for our work
And I knew if I said anything that I would be the jerk
There's always some ex-boyfriend, some jealous has-been clown
Trying to muscle in the spotlight, trying to keep the lady down

There's this comfortable old story about the man without a clue
Who rises to the top on work some woman had to do
But political correctness won't accept the inverse true
We just can't see the painted toenails on the foot that fits the shoe...

Now THAT is some sour grapes (on both the part of Gilbert and expertTexpert).  The taste is decidedly bitter.

TNMC's work would not have gone anywhere without Ms. Crow's involvement.  The success of her career following her brief collaboration with TNMC shows that she is no flash-in-the-pan, nor is she a coattail rider.
The HD live version of this song on youtube is pretty knock out...check the slide guitar playing , by Peter Stroud ,....then there's her doing it live on grand piano on her own and thats a 10 as well.

That look on the cover... whoa... someone's not gettin' any tonight...

Maybe some of the songs on the first album were (co)written by them. So why didn't they take legal action (or did they)?
She seems to have done alright without them since then.
Baerwald's Bedtime Stories was a great album, btw.

I'm pretty sure she wrote it; she doesn't do too many covers — especially back then.  Isn't this album earlier than 1998?
Poignant lyrics, lovely guitar, soft singing (hate shouty singers). What's not to like?
One great piece of a song - amazing ... Sheryl Crow's best ...
i could dream.
good stuff, love the steel....{#Dancingbanana}{#Bounce}

Moderate tempo and melodic song that is emotive.

My band has played this for years now, it's one of my favorites to perform.  An understated classic.

She looks a bit scary in the cover art.

Nice tune, I have always liked her.

One of the better Crow tunes. Understated, pure and simple. Unpretentious and calming...yet sad.
Thanks for playing Sheryl Crow.

i sure like this song but i'm not sure about the video.  Too much of a dichotomy between the "ordinary people" and Crow.     most everyone at the fair looked weathered and not very happy and Crow comes along with heavy makeup and looking sultry.    it kind of creeped me out..

crowOne of Ms. Crow's best, I think

I've always had a soft spot in my heart for Sheryl Crow's music.  She always looked so tough onstage, but could sing the most tender, haunting and heartbreaking songs. I can't say anything bad about her. And she's worked (and toured) with Stevie Nicks!  I love this song.  Wasn't it used in the movie "White Oleander"?
This song is the opposite of the song "Feels Like Home" written by Randy Newman sung by Linda Ronstadt/Bonnie Raitt/Chantal Kreviasik. Both are haunting in their own right, both referring to "home," and both bring tears to my eyes.

Her first three albums were really quite great.

Agreed—I lost interest in her later works but when she was this hippy girl who had paid dues she was pretty great—not to mention that she had some pretty good support from artists such as David Baerwald in the beginning. Listening with headphones you can really appreciate the backing she had then. Unfortunately I think she burnt some bridges and lost herself while climbing the ladder to success.

A real gem. Under played when it was released, which makes it wonderful here. Like her relaxed unpretentious sounding voice. Backing vocals are soothing and creamy. Love it!
Love Love Love!
I find her to be generally repellent, but I have to admit, I like this.
I love the steel sound of this.
I so love this but it's a bittersweet comfort because home seems so hard to find.

I totally agree!

Love Sheryl, love her work... this song is one of my fav heartbreakers. For something the same but different, give a listen to "The Difficult Kind" from The Globe Sessions... at the time that came out, I sure could relate. Played it on the way to work, every day, and sang along LOUDLY. {#Yell}
So Bill's not such a big Sheryl Crow fan hey...I can forgive him cause he brings me so many other cool things
Sheryl has a real knack for the bad relationship song and the breakup song, and I can't think of a song that sounds more like a love song but is actually an "I hate it here" song than this one.  I love the song but find it heartbreaking at the same time.
Now I find that I like 2 Cheryl crow songs. Not such a high percentage, but there is hope. No, she is not in the same league as Joni Mitchell.

How can you possibly compare Sheryl Crow and Joni Mitchell?  Too much of a stretch for me ...

Why is that a stretch?      I'd agree that Crow does not yet have the body of work of Mitchell.     But in the days of Court & Spark, Mitchell was a simple folk singer trying for commercial pop success.   Not much different for Crow at this point, imo.

love album as well

Groovy is an object-oriented programming language for the Java Platform

Who Knew? {#Ask}
I like this song, but only because the version I downloaded years ago has Neil Finn on much more prominent backing vocals...
Outstanding song. Sheryl has a knack to nail not just lyrics but melodies in a compelling and memorable way. I wouldn't shake her hand, given her one sheet policy, but have to give her props for a most excellent song.

Agreed. There's a noticeable maturity in this work. Perhaps she might be doing so gracefully in the same light as Joni Mitchell. People deserve a chance to grow from within. I certainly don't agree with her views on streaming media royalty rates that would mean the end of RP, but good work is good work and it was noble of RP to give her airplay.

Jazbo,  How do you know that Ms. Crow didn't push every many she was "in love with" out the door?

Nice song all the same.

I like  many here ,, liked her early stuff and  , yah !! what the hell was that kid rock thing !

my girlfiend hates her and says " that once again in the world of arts , it's not what you know , it's who you know ,, no talent required"

Did she know someone to get her big break or what ? anybody know?
She's lost every man she thought she was in love with along with batteling cancer. I love her strengeth.
And alot of her music.

Odd choice of album photos.  She looks a little like early David Gilmour.

I appreciate this sentiment. However, this is from her (most excellent) second album.

Looks like it's time to check out the LRC...
GREAT segue from TJW!

Sheryl was willing to tackle issues in a not so pop friendly way in this album. Still had some passion underlying the message in her words.

Yes, indeed.  All's changed, sadly.  She lost her edge.  But I would like to hear more of her from the 1st 3 CD's, as a previous post mentioned.

i would not donkey punch her...........really boring she sounds like every great song mixed together with doo doo as the guitar.
