Love the way Josh Rouse captures the 70's feel.

maybe it's presumptive to assume he's singing to a woman...?
After buying and listening to this album for some time, I have been wondering myself about this song and others. I'm not so sure he is singing about another woman. Whatever, one way or the other, but I am curious.

Still like it. But it's still about a stalker -- one who's apparently, somehow, imagined to be potentially appealing to his victim. Women like this?
NO! Ick. Only Bob Dylan can pull off being this repetitive with a melody!
You know, I spent the last few years under the impression this was the lead singer of The Replacements. 7.
Is this a beer commercial yet?

thats a great combination in my books
This is very like late-70s/early-80s singer-songwriter stuff, like Al Stewart or Gerry Rafferty. Whether that's good or bad is another question.
nice big head todd sound
forgettable tune. nice enough. vacuous pop
Oh my gosh..I really like Josh Rouse, but this sounds amazingly close to Night Shift Guru by the Cash Brothers...which is a favorite. This is nice.
For me it's a bit of Tom Petty meets Blue Rodeo...

I don't like the song, and I would have serious misgivings about a guy who wanted to try on my clothes.
I suppose that would depend on whether or not I was still in them...

Hmmmm...

It has a very Smiths-like feel to it...perhaps you are just thinking it sounds similar to The Smiths?

if this was written by a twelve year old for a school songwriting comp...it would get tossed. Brutal.

Ah - "Al Perkins (pedal steel guitar)". No wonder.
Hey, I think I dated him... nearly drove me insane.

Not so sure I would allow that but to be honest with you, the lyrics remind me of a song that Prince wrote from Sign O' the Times called "If I Was Your Girlfriend" where he talks about would the girl let him wash her hair, amongst other things.
Well it depends on how much of a guy's feminine side might appeal to a particular gal. PS: Prince's song "When U Were Mine" states, "I used to try on all your clothes." A little less risky when Cyndi Lauper sang it, I guess... It's the nighttime baby, don't let go of my love. Great stuff.

Huh...this song isn't annoying me so much anymore. Curious.

I like the tune, but, come on, be honest female listeners of RP: what would be your gut reaction to a guy suggesting to go to your room so that he could try on your clothes?

When this song started up, I had to check and make sure that I hadn't missed a record from Paul. randomprime wrote:

ah, even in the relative anonymity of this forum I'm a wee bit too shy to elaborate... so, not to change the subject or anything - I now have this CD and I love it...I think I have a bit of a crush on Josh Rouse
The song is so-so, I agree. But damn, it DOES have a nice hook.
I like the nightlife baby.

I do like the song and have just ordered the CD. as for the other matter, that is a lot less-strange than some other things guys (at least a few I know) have asked to do...

"Serious misgivings." Consider further: This guy is standing outside your residence, lurking in the street, in the rain, in the dark (city lights above). He's standing close enough to hear a song ("Who Do You Love") coming out of headphones, and has been stalking you long enough to identify your favorite song. If armed with an answer to "Does he feel like I feel?" ("I want to know his name"), what might he do to the poor soul? "Misgivings"?

never heard of him...pretty good! Nice "working" music. Very smooth.
listen to two songs to become an obsessive josh rouse fan: 1.) from laughter 2.) under your charm f $^@$^ fantastic songs.
Paul Westerberg! (just saw the Placemats post below, and I agree...)
The piano part reminds me of the end of Joe Jackson's "Breaking Us in Two."

kinda Replacements-y, huh?
