Producer error... Fiona has unmatched talent. Some tracks on the scrapped album are amazing, though.
I am a Fiona fan, but she may have to go back to the drawing board and scrap this stuff.

I've heard the album and not only is it non-commercial, it just plain sucks. That's probably one of the many reasons Sony won't release it.
Hate to agree with you, but I do. A few tracks are likeable, but most (like this one) sound curiously unfinished. Not enough post-production? Too much? Dunno. Maybe this story will have a happy ending ala Wilco and YHF. Though, that album had stellar music on it......
she sounds like we did when, as kids, we took a big pinch of skin on our neck and wiggled it up and down to get vibrato....

I still love this song, but why does it sound like she recorded the vocals while sitting on a washing machine with an uneven load?

The mental picture is interesting.

I usually enjoy Fiona--- "Tidal" and "When the Pawn" are both great albums.... hysterical comment about the washing machine --- I thought she sounded like she was underwater (but then when I saw that post it put my thoughts to shame)--- a bit too strange for my taste I'm afraid... oh well....

Seriously....it's really off-putting.

Sony. They may not have released it, but they own the copyright. FYI - there's no law prohibiting us from playing unissued material. If Sony wanted to get an injunction against the many stations playing this stuff then they could - but I doubt that they care that much.
Thanks for the response. This is definitely a special case.

Get it while you can. Don't know how long it will be available at this site. https://www.terminalblue.com/music.htm
Nothing Fiona has done is really very commercial at all. Even "Criminal" isn't really pop music. She really moves me though, mostly I think her voice carries emotion really well...
I love you Fi, but lose the perma-warble.

Sony still sucks...

too bad Epic/Sony feels it's better to spend their money on artists like Shakira than release a completed Fiona album...
I really like this, but if the record execs don't think it's commercial, it must not be very good. I'll give it a 2. American Idol's on - gotta run...

Holy Crap! I had no idea a new album existed. I did a quick search and came across this: Extraordinary Machine Fiona Apple's third album, Extraordinary Machine, has been shelved by Sony for a lack of commercial appeal. Known collaborators are producer Jon Brion and drummer Matt Chamberlain. The record consists of 11 tracks, and has been complete since May 2003. https://www.fionaapple.org/
