oh my lucky number's been rolling all summer
and when the sun shines, i celebrate
the beauty in life - it's my duty in life
'cause the rhythm of change
will carry on beating
i'll take these blue skies, however fleeting
it might be too late tomorrow...

sometimes i get into it
but others, i can't stand the waiting -
freetime

so long afternoons would go up in balloons
as we killed our time just watching it die
your father, my son, he'd turn in his urn

and sometimes i get into it
but others, i can't stand to waste it -
freetime

allowing for some change, i'll carry on mundane
around the corner, await simple pleasures
my beautiful wife in her beautiful life

to the rhythm of change we'll carry on walking
the hills of Glenrosa stand in our future
there's beauty in life
yes there's beauty in life

they sound like mammas and pappas
First time I have heard Trashcan Sinatras on RP.  Looks like they've been played for a while, just I didn't catch them on the rotation.   Loved them since I first heard Obscurity Knocks when living in Aberdeen in ?1990?  Great wordplay in all their songs and not bad live, either.
I've never heard this before , so I read though the lyrics, like you do.............. They mention simple pleasures,  a wife and the hills of Glen Rosa. Glen Rosa is on the Isle of Arran off the west coast of Scotland. We spent our honeymoon in Glen Rosa, with the occasional company of a pair of golden eagles. Just us, a two man (?) tent and a motorbike.. way too many years ago to mention. It's got to go in my favourites just for  that
Sweet Jesus, this is just awful.  Send it to the cornfield.
I PSD'd away from this for the awful band name alone

That looks to be a photo of Urquhart Castle on the shore of Loch Ness, though I'd not swear to it.

Same here. I should explore their music more.

On the other hand, there are some band names so uninspiring it's hard to think they could come up with anything interesting musically.

Ketchy...Yes?
this is too poppy for me but I really like the guitar work

Such an underrated band. Wonderful sound. This song not their best, but enjoying it anyway.

...exactly what I was thinking...and this song seems like a nice start...I'll have to investigate further.

More xylophone!

After writing the post about The Point I ordered the DVD and watched it with my aging parents, my wife, and my two twenty-something daughters. My dad didn't think much of the underlying philosophy but my youngest daughter was amazed by the whole thing and declared it her all-time favorite movie. While rooted in psychedelia, it has a timeless message. I highly recommend it. The music and the animation are great.

I have an old VHS version of that film.  I've watched it with my 5 year-old son quite a few times.  It is a little psychedelic but the animation is wonderful and the music is fantastic.  Love Ringo's narration.

There sure is a lot of good music out there that we just never hear anywhere but here. Thanks RP!
My all-time favorite band, and criminally under-rated.  Please play more.
This is my favorite Trashcan Sinatras song.... so sweet.  A good-feeling kinda song, for sure.

More from the Trash, please!  Thanks Bill!  {#Dancingbanana}
That album, Cake, was/is absolutely fantastic. I stumbled on it back in 93 and it still finds itself on the top of my CD pile. Good taste!

Me too, and somehow (until the middle 8) it always seems to sound like a Christmas song (somehow).

(And I hate Christmas)

I always enjoy this song.

Cool song, never really heard these guys before... well, maybe never paid attention to them before anyway.
Stealing from George Harrison, not a bad place to steal from.
a decent, head-bobbing, jangly tune for a late friday afternoon...
Another seque from Patty Griffin. Whats the dealio with that? I don't see the connection.
Nice...these guys bring back memories! Good ones :)

Damn! I got an important 'phone call and missed this. A great band and thouroughly nice people. They used to run Shabby Road studios in Kilmarnock and I saw them around the local music shop. Nice folks.

Though brilliant, Saint Etienne are not Scottish. Has anyone mentioned Teenage Fanclub? Also great.

"the hills of glenrosa stand in our future ". That's got to be the first reference to the Isle of Arran (off the West Scotland coast, not the Aran Isles off W Ireland) that I've ever heard in a pop song, and makes me warm to it immediately - Glen Rosa is a wonderful place, nestled in magnificent mountain ridges, on a fantastic (out of tourist season) island. That's added an extra point to my rating :)
I really like this song...reminds me of George Harrison.

For those who haven't hung clothes out on a line lately, I highly recommend it, especially on a beautiful fall day. Something very zen about it, strangely enough.
Every year when the weather breaks, I always plan on setting up a line in my back yard to have the clothes dry. I didn't think about this until recently now that there are a few less large trees (less of a chance of birds doing their business on my clothes). But anyway, I'm not sure what's so zen about it, but it makes more sense than running your dryer when 70+ degree weather outside will do just fine. Remind me to do this in May.

Maybe they should update their name to keep with the times, and now be known as "The Wheelie Bin Sinatras".
Love this song....reminds me of XTC
I recently picked up this album and I feel as if I've made an amazing discovery. Echoes of James and Prefab Sprout -- good stuff! -Synth80s

Actually this song sounds a little like what a post Beatles breakup song might sound like if Geoge Harrison collaborated with Brian Wilson. Bright, jangly pop. The vocals are sort of reminiscent of George as well.

Excellent to hear this, from a great album that was criminally overlooked in the UK.
Another great RP discovery (for me)!!!!
One of the most under-rated bands of the past 15+ years...
The beginning of this brings to mind Waterloo Sunset. It's all downhill from there, unfortunately....
this song is magic

I love this band. God bless 'em, and everything they do.
The guitar has almost a Fripp-like sound. I liked this. (My first time to hear TCS.)

This CD came out last fall, and only this song and All the Dark Horses from Weightlifting are on the RP playlist. Not that I haven't tried to get more stuff on the playlist...
