Live life, live life like you're gonna die
Because you're gonna
I hate to be the bearer of bad news
But you're gonna die

Maybe not today or even next year
But before you know it you'll be saying
"Is this all there was?
What was all the fuss? Why did I bother?"

Now, maybe you won't suffer maybe it's quick
But you'll have time to think
Why did I waste it? Why didn't I taste it?
You'll have time 'cause you're gonna die

Yes it's gonna happen because
It's happened to a lot of people I know
My mother, my father, my loves
The President, the kings and the Pope they all had hope

And they muttered just before they went
Maybe, I won't let go
Live life like you're gonna die
Because you are

Maybe you won't suffer maybe it's quick
But you'll have time to think
Why did I waste it? Why didn't I taste it?
You'll have time 'cause you're gonna die

I tell you who else left us
Passed on down to heaven no longer with us
Johnny Cash, JFK, that guy in the Stones
Lou Gehrig, Einstein, and Joey Ramone

Have I convinced you?
Do you read my lips?
This may come as news but it's time
You're gonna die, you're gonna die

By the time you hear this
I may well be dead
And you my friend might be next
'Cause we're all gonna die

Yeah, oh maybe you won't suffer and maybe it's quick
But you'll have time to think
Why did I waste it? Why didn't I taste it?
You'll have time, you'll have time cause you're gonna die

Yes, you're gonna die
You're gonna die, I tell you
You're gonna die, you're gonna die

'Cause maybe you won't suffer maybe it's quick
But you have time to think
Why did I waste it? Why didn't I taste it?
You'll have time 'cause you're gonna die

Live life, life, life like you're gonna die
Because you're going to
Oh yes I hate to be the beater of bad news
But you're gonna die

Maybe not today or even next year
But before you know it you'll be saying
"Is this all there was? What was all the fuss?
Why did I bother?

Y O U apostrophe R E G O double N A D I E die
You are gonna die
Lung cancer, heart attack, diabetes, drug overdose
Choke on a chicken bone, hit by a lightning bolt
Heart attack, airplane crash
Car wreck, f'ed up in your ass

Just did
GENIUS!!!!  Pure and simple!  Easy 10+!
If you're not in the green on the ratings chart for this one, you're not invited to my funeral.
You gotta have a sense of humor, ole' Willy surely does.  Go with it or skip it.
It's quite likeable.
Bill.Please stop playing this.. it's about the worst song on RP..
omg hahahahahah!
what is this called, bluesy crooner rap?! lol!
Funny

Absolutely dreadful! {#Stop} Someone please shoot him to infinity and beyond.

I love this album. This one could be a great song for a memorial...
As painful as this is, it is still WAY better than his version of 'Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds'.
Me?
So bad its...its...
Hmm.

... clearly, it's not a good song per se.

I'm not sure that's clear at all.  "good song" can mean different things to different people.
{#Drunk} well it beats macarthur park ! I think
It's okay, but it's William Shatner :-)

Like so many RP songs, if RP didn't play it, I never would've heard it. I don't have to like them all.

Thank you Radio Paradise!!!!
BG:  "Judging from the comments, that might be a good thing, there being only one William Shatner".

 {#Cheesygrin}
Has Ben Folds genius all over it.
I think you just hit on the secret sauce for getting donations ... playing music like this.

Please Donate so RP can afford to play better music!!!

If he does, make sure you go to his funeral; otherwise he won't go to yours.

{#Lol}

Yep
The backing vocals, particularly when they are punctuating that one part with vocal stabs of "DEAD" really make this track. {#Lol}
Shat's had a good life, lots of fun, provided great entertainment.  What's not to love?
Brilliant album!  For those that have not heard it - Lot's of variety.  This one's cheeky, but many songs with deep lyrics.

Right ON! {#Cool}
RP is the best for sure BUT...
Not sure of the value of playing this particular piece or this genre for that matter. Novelty? Achieved. Annoyance factor? Exceeded.
I'd recommend sticking to real music.
Ya got love the pelotas on this dude!

Cracks me up every time.
call me crazy but I like it {#Cheesygrin}
I'm having such a hard time judging this because I love it for its message and comedic undertones but clearly, it's not a good song per se.
 that would be better ! ElainaEast wrote:
in a similar vein (?!?), suggest The Tubes' "What Do You Want From Life"

You wouldn't have thought his message would need to be said, but sadly, it does.
So you noticed the Bruce Hornsby - piano riff - also {#Laughing}
I love "Common People" from this CD, this one, not so much!

On his tombstone Shatner will have carved, "I was a PERFECT dick".  Sucko-barfo and relatively uninformative.

joelbb seems to be harboring some kind of h8ful grudge against this man, myth, and legend.

This reminds me of a lyric, from the same album as this track, which might sum up joelbb's insightful input:

"Riding on their armchairs,
they dream of wealth and fame.
Fear is their companion,
Nintendo is their game.
Never Done Jack and Two-Thumbs Don
and side-kick Don't Say Dick
will laugh at others failures
though they have not done sh*t."

Good one, h8r.
it's more like a transition to a place like the Talking Heads - Heaven
Thank God for the PSD button!

Godlike from The Shat.
Eric Burden and War cover this subject a bit better in a song called Mother Earth. A better listen for sure.
I'd rather like Always Look On The Brightside Of Life in this perspective.
I'm starting to think he never will actually die.

An interesting album with it's tongue firmly in cheek. Well worth checking out, more as a poetry set to music exercise. Bill Shatner is a superb performer and brings a lot of meaning and even passion to each piece. (Try not to grin like an idiot and drive too fast to 'Common People' on this album. I may love it more than the original, and I love the original!)

The. Shat. Is. Awesome.

Danny Crane. {#Cool}

P.S. Epic backing vocals.

Is it a song?
I Do Not unterstand why playing the. Very bad song.

OK, this one is going on the "Songs for my Funeral" mix
Nice one! {#Music}
Interesting to see that this was likely not played between 2006 and 20015.

But now that election time is here this year, Shatner is even more correct.

I 'm sitting here, never having heard this ever, and in a minor revelation, it occurred to me "that voice is really familiar." Whammo! Hilarious, wry and wise. If this is on iTunes I'm going to grab it to play as a joke on some friends. Whammo! WTF? Who?
"Why did I bother?"
- William Shatner
HaHa!!!  Shatner is a cult legend and can't sing at all, but this song has that ole timey gospel ring of truth, is funny as hell, and for that it deserves a 10!  The world will weep bitter tears by the bucketful when he finally goes to the great beyond!  {#Notworthy}

BEAM HIM UP SCOTTY!!!!!
William Shatner: amazing as Captain James T. Kirk.

Not amazing as a singer.
Mr. Shatner, don't quit your day job.......

Nobody doesn't sing like William Shatner - love this album.

Perfectly stated.  I love that he makes a parody of himself.  He's just awesome.
What are we all going to say when the Shat dies?
This is what they were playing when Chekov got thrown in the agony booth.

Amusingly awful.
Forgive me...but for a split second (in a warp speed)...I thought this was Jim Morrison acting goofy.
Nobody doesn't sing like William Shatner - love this album.
...because you are.
So upbeat.
Memento Mori reloaded.
Great lyrics {#Cheesygrin}

William is funnier then James T. Kirk ever was.

The Shat resurrected his career after he stopped taking himself so seriously ("TJ Hooker" was a nadir for him and American TV).

This is indisputably more fun and entertaining than Leonard Cohen's leering crooning on the same subject.
What an absolute bucket of sh1t. Please don't play this ever again.
...choke on a chicken bone...

No Panic ! We're all
still just embryonic,
So funny.
Good lord.
You kow what i think he is right😬
William is funnier then James T. Kirk ever was.
I love Shatner and his ability to entertain on so many levels
Needs some Joe Jackson
Who the hell voted this a "1"?
You're gonna die!

Jeez, it must be a pretty powerful song for you then.  Maybe you ought to use the PSD or change the station before the grim reaper grabs you by the scruff of the neck.
OMG Shatner? Really? At least play something he attempts to sing like Common People. This is pure garbage.
I thought this was Firesign Theatre at first. Pretty funny. Did not expect this from Captain Kirk.
That just cheered me the hell up! :-) I'm gonna fucking die! Better get on and do something!

I already know, dammit,,, I don't need to hear it so many times
I love this! Hysterical!
blows
And now for something completely different . . . .

Must admit, though...I've got a soft spot (soft head?) with Shatner...he amuses me.

Bill's return to relevance started when he stopped taking himself so seriously (T.J. Hooker!) and let himself become the winking joke in the room (Denny Crane..."mad cow!"). Alec Baldwin went through the same process. Both are very funny guys with great comedic timing.

if it was supposed to be funny it was.

this is the first time I have heard this and I'm not quite sure of how to rate it, I will say that I'm looking forward to hearing it again and if we are just going to rate content then it's a 10 for sure, really funny and the background singers with that gospel feel are great. Bill please play it again soon.

Somehow it reminds me of "Solid Gold" by Keith Moon...
Holy Shatner!
great! :)
I have not heard this before. Not ... quite ... sure what to make of it.
Did Bill play this the day Leonard Nemoy died?
Looks like some people can't handle the truth.....

{#Ask}
So... do I give this 2 or 8?  {#Propeller}
Brilliant - Absolutely Brilliant ! Denny Crane
I was really looking forward to hearing this. But it seems I was spoiled by the creativity and execution behind his "Common People" cover, which was excellent.
What a great chance to tell the sheep from the goats! I guess if you can't handle the truth it's hard to laugh about it . . .
Carpe Diem folks!
