Standing by yourself.
High on the hills above the ocean.
This is where you'd come to walk with your friends.
Strange how it leaves you with no emotion.

You can't fight the undertow.
Not when you're all alone.
You can't fight the undertow.
How long 'til you let go?

Taking one step back.
Trying to pull yourself together.
No matter what you say nothing you do
Can hold back the forces on you forever.

You can't fight the undertow.
Not when you're all alone.
You can't fight the undertow.
How long 'til you let go?

Why not play Karen Carpenter?  This is almost as good.

This doesn't measure up.  I miss Karen's beautiful voice and her exquisite range.
Once a year is not nearly enough — good thing I have everything by them in my iTunes Library... That voice, that sweet ebb and flow...
Seems like ages since I heard this wonderful song here... This was my swooning introduction to Ivy; maybe, it's my favorite by them...

Old post to reply to, I know, but that cover art uses a really odd crop.  Wonder who thought of that?
OMG.....she is singing my present life......it hit the spot

'Beautist' would suffice.

Or Beauyist Beautyist Galli .
Ivy, plural ivies (Hedera), is a genus of 12–15 species ofevergreen climbing or ground-creeping woody plants in the family Araliaceae, native to western, central and southernEuropeMacaronesia, northwestern Africa and across central-southern Asia east to Japan and Taiwan.

I know alot about the above after clicking the wikilink.

Cool.

GOD I LOVE THIS!  Whenever I hear the beginning; rather Floydian with the transistor radio-effect, I have to stop whatever it is I am doing, crank the Volume, and sit and let the whole thing flow over me; her voice, the soaring flow, the ocean-like rhythmic waves...
PURE SONIC BLISS!
wow
nothing wrong with that song
Can't fight it...

Words to live life by.... just let go......

Oh, she is from Paris. I was thinking she was from Hooverphonic-land somewhere.

From there you just click the disambiguation link, then you click Ivy (band).

It's not that hard, but they do lose out on the lowest common denominator.

What is the white thing on the album cover?  Is it a right tail light from a 57 De Soto? Or maybe a alien head from the ET movie? Or a dual cone blow dryer?

Looks like a binoc scope to me.

And her chunk of hair falling across her face definitely states, "I'm in a band."

Whats wrong with being pretty? I like Ivy's music and her looks.

A little?  There wasn't a single acoustic sound in the whole song!

AND THERE'S NOTHING WRONG WITH THAT, YOU LUDDITE! ;)

{#Music}
yeah, yeah song's pretty, she's pretty

Binoculars, I think (check out the name of the album).

Market her looks??
This is a great song.  I like the lyrics.
I hope to hear more songs from Ivy.  {#Angel}
Great music by great people.

Expansive sounding. Reminds me of Morcheeba and Hooverponic.

Makes me think of At the River with Groove Armada.
cool sound.  velvety

Maybe she'd rather people listened to her music instead of ogling her body, like any other artist?
Very generic-sounding.

good timing or something but hit just right

This sounds like a remix to me. That ocean sound effect was not on the original mix of the song. I'm a big fan of Ivy's stuff. BTW, one of the band members is also in "Fountains Of Wayne".
makes me hoover hungry.....
Very Hooverphonic-ish.
...that's exactly who i thought i was hearing at first...

"lush" can equate with rotting fruit sometimes I dig the lushness (lushosity?) though

umm, u can fight the undertow. You swim across the rip-tide. Duh.
Ivy...Groovy, mellow soundscapes for your listening pleasure. This one is going on my "want" list. "You can't fight the Hypno-Toad..."
Very Hooverphonic-ish.
I like it. Dreamy and lush. Vogel, you must be a John Irving fan... c.
That was very nice and lush.
camel toe.
First time I've heard this, I like very much.

Eeeww. I don't agree that this song is that bland, but you totally score points in my book for that vivid analogy!!

I know with a rip tide you're just supposed to float with it and eventually try getting out of it by swimming parallel to shore...but how do you get out of an undertow?
Basically just let it take you for a minute, orient yourself to which way the bubbles are going, and then propel yourself upwards, then follow instructions for rip-current. Undertow usually happens when there are rip currents present. Unfortunately for this song, it didn't generate much of an undertow save the title. Too bland... kind of liked boxed mashed potatoes without salt, milk or water.

You're supposed to curl up in a ball and let the tide take you out, if you brush bottom, kick upwards, if not, hold your breath til it releases you.
