In a gadda da vida, honey
Don't you know that I love you
In a gadda da vida, baby
Don't you know that I'll always be true

Oh, won't you come with me
And take my hand
Oh, won't you come with me
And walk this land
Please take my hand

In a gadda da vida, honey
Don't you know that I'm lovin' you
In a gadda da vida, baby
Don't you know that I'll always be true

Oh, won't you come with me
And take my hand
Oh, won't you come with me
And walk this land
Please take my hand

OMG ... June, 1969. Just graduated from Catholic grade school.  Nuns were smarter than we thought... would not let us have our '69 pin like all the other graduating classes before or after.

Until I got the wiser, I thought it was 'tie stick'.   Bad weed, good weed or these days, no weed, I always listen in to the trashy but still smokin' In a Gadda Vida.
The MOST PLAYED DRUM SOLO on school desks, In the history of rock!!
The full 17. Only RP. Love this shit.

The first time I heard the term, I asked "what the f*** is thigh stick?"  I was 16.  I was an expert by the time I got to 21.

I thinks that a funny quote, but not at all in the way you mean.

Priceless moments in time
A 6 for the noise and cheese, an 8 for the awesome audacity of the psychedelia. I drove my poor parents freaking nuts with this in about 1970. WTF is that cacaphony on the stereo?
my 9th grade Biology teacher brought in a stereo system and put this record on at high volume, oh my god it was AWESOME!!!
not sure what his point was but I still remember this like its Iron Butterfly's one and only masterpiece   "3 - 4 HUPP!!!"  : )

Lol, at the same time, thousands of miles away across the ocean a small gang of lads in a backwater village were doing the same thing. We played cards though, blackjack, for bragging rights only because we were skint. Then we would walk out in the sticks for miles, or go for a motorbike ride, or mess about in a workshop, or go to the pub, but socialising together.

The phone at home had a lock on it and you were allowed one call per friend a day, so you met up at the same times throughout the week. You just seemed to know where your friends were if you went looking for them, we were that tuned into each other.

Iron Butterfly were one of my favourites then, well I was very young, I listened through it all and thought it still sounds ok though.

I like your location description LowPhreak, I'm the property of the Neo-Feudal Corporate Dictatorship of Perfidious Albion ( HR Class: Epsilon Caste Technical Resource - Chattel), a living tool.

This was before people had the attention span of a schizophrenic house fly from instant gratification 200+ channel cable TV and internet.

A new record came out. You put in on the 'table, set the tonearm down, and chilled or rocked for 20+ minutes. You and your friends all freaked out at how cool the new tunes were and played the other side or played a couple of the first songs again. More doobs were rolled on the new album cover while you all checked the groovy artwork, and someone was reading the liner notes/lyrics. Then you talked about what it all meant, where the band was going, how it might influence the current scene, and so on.

Then you played more records. 17:05 minutes? Meh, that was just getting the party started!

That was people engaging in human interaction. Not zoning out like eight people all fiddling with their cell phones because they don't want to even try.

17:05 minutes.

I'm probably out of the mainstream on this in a couple ways, but I hit PSD to some Pink Floyd (like I always do) and came upon the long version of this!  I'm happy to have heard it again this once since the 60's, but once is enough.  I'm good for a few more decades.
played my first drum solo on my desk in primary school to this playing in my head! teacher was NOT impressed!

 F#*k him! LOL

That was the perfect song to annoy my Mom. LOL!{#Dancingbanana}"this is no music for a girl, can'T you listen to something nicer?" LOL!{#Jump}

And the long one!
And it's pretentious stoner junk—but classic pretentious stoner junk—was this on the air at the same time 2001 was in theaters?—with a pedestrian drum solo to gather the tribes and keyboards to make us want to attend the Church of Our Lady Better Not Be a Virgin.

I drove my parents stark raving looney playing this in the basement 100 times while I lifted weights and they tried to watch TV.

Everything about this song has become such an inadvertent satire of the psychedelic genre. It's as if Spinal Tap had copied these guys. I remember being at Iron Butterfly's San Francisco debut with my boyfriend, we were there by way of his roll as a music reviewer. Even then, we thought this piece was overdone. We walked out in the middle of this. Now, I love it because it is musical kitsch.

In the Garden of Eden, baby! Ya gotta love it!!

Greasy, bloated, and a bummer. "Psychedelic" in the worst sense of the word.

Those were the days !!!

Thanks Mr. Bill for play the full version

Ah, the good ol' days, when fm stations would play a long, tripping song like this.

Okay, you're now my new best friend, n4ku! *hugs you* If I knew how to rip and upload stuff, I'd provide some Shawn Snyder (his "Karma In A Can" and "Wendy" are both hysterically witty, funny and true.)
I just love that it's the first time it has gotten played, and there are 3 pages worth of song comments right off the bat.

One song, half a hundred opinions (all of which are totally valid!) and still, everyone gets along. Might not mean anything to anyone, but I'm adding RP to my "Zen" list, along with my job at the nursery/greenhouse. Thank you to everyone who lives here. You are my commune of choice.
WOW
The year was 1969. I was 9 and was standing in the record aisle at Drug Fair. I had saved up $1.25, and was about to buy my first album. The Beatles, weren't a consideration since my dad had all of their albums to date. I had it narrowed down to "The Archies - Everything's Archie" (Sugar Sugar was a big teeny bop hit at the time) and "Iron Butterfly - In A Gadda Da Vida". I opted for the latter (which I still have). I remember my dad playing (side B?) more than a few times. That made me feel pretty cool as a 9 year old. Sometimes I wonder where I'd be & what I'd be doing if I'd put my .99 down on The Archies..... certainly not adding a song comment on RP. EDIT: I can't seem to bring myself around to rating this....

Yeah, I wore my copy of this record to a frazzle on one of those mono record players that had a tone arm heavy enough to cut keys. Drove my mom absolutely apeshit with it in the morning, at lunch hour, after school ...

I can't get Weird Al Yankovic's polka version of this outta my head now.
I thought that would never end...clutch must be slippin'
My only fond memory of this song is when I got Mojo Nixon and Skid Roper to play it. Only took them about 30 seconds but hey.
Only Bill has the nuts and ablity to recognize the artistic importance of this piece, in all its cheesy glory, to broadcast the entire piece. Who among you remember being at a dance and falling for the temptation to dance to this one. ...never made it past the drum solo... I've never heard this brodcast , in entirety, before.

Heard a similar version of the story from a friend of the bass player, except it was the singer who was too wasted to enunciate "In the Garden of Eden". On a side note, the bass player created the green flower-like logo used by BP.

I just saw God-Again.
OK Bill, that was great, now put the album away 'till next year. Oh wait, it's still going!

The original lyrics were "in the Garden of Eden, baby..."
You know I hate to admit it, but I think this is the first time I've heard the entire song.
I once got stoned in college to listen to this to see if it helped make this song more trippy. Nope. Didn't help. I think you gotta be partying, vertically or horizontally. It's not really a listen and focus song.
You don't hear this often anymore; I have the album. But I have to say, it doesn't sound anywhere near as cool as I had remembered it way back then. In fact, it sounds rather, er, pedestrian.

YOu gotta be F'in kidding me!!!!!!! THis is so incre3dible to hear this on the "radio"!!!! Disc Master Willie G is the man baby!!!!!!!! Somebody stole my original release vinyl of this at a party once. They're quite pricey now , so I'm relegated to the CD listenig experience - just not the same.
Goes to 11.

This one has not stood the test of time for me. Not a bit.
