I seem to be the minority here but i think this whole album is pretty good. In the liner notes, sinead states that she wanted to remake the songs exactly as they were originally done - i assume that includes pronunciation. Anyway, i think its cool to hear the songs with a female voice.
regarding this song (i haven't listened to the whole album), i join you in the minority; from reading other comments its safe to say most people despise this song by this artist, but i have to admit i like it a lot. i would bet that if people didn't previously know this song and didn't previously know this artist, they would be groovin' to the sound.

That's 'trow up your lunch' ...
Luv the cover shot!

wow. such negative reactions. it doesn't sound so bad to me. in fact, I kinda like it - probably because it's a hybrid.
This is the sort of unimaginitve rubbish that only established artists can release. If a record company received music like this from an unknown artist, it would be rejected immediately, and the artist consigned to the dustbin of eternity. Shame really. I like Sinéad O'Connor normally.
Sinead promotes her controversial new disc o' covers.

8? 8?... are you frackin' crazy? You don't have to be a purist to hear that the song is a piece of crap.

My original rate was 3 because she still has a pretty voice even when she attempts to sing *sigh* reggae.... When I saw the album art however, I changed to 1.

'trow'? oh man. first willie nelson. now this.
Yep. Two abortive efforts. This is awful.
Pleeeeeze Bill... cut the cord to this song already and let it die a sad sorry death. Sinead ain't no reggae singer no matter which way you cut it. This is an abomination in the RP playlist I tell you... AN ABOMINATION!!!! A "1" is too kind a rating on this musical equivalent of an overfilled colostomy bag.

Agreed...it's amazing..once an artist has established themselves, what crap they can get to be recorded and played forced upon the public. If this wasnt her, I doubt anyone would be listening esp. with that phoney accent.
hahahahahahahaha to both posts, she is established? Nothing Compares 2U??
For those of you who can appreciate Sinead doing reggae, check out her jammin concert with Sly & Robbie in DC that you can stream through NPR: https://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=5037072
Hoo-boy. As my associate down the thread said, "Burning Spear" please or Bunny Wailer if you want some real roots reggae.
She's done some wonderful stuff, but what I've heard off this album is pretty weak. Not as embarassing at Willie's attempts at the genre, but still embarassing.

How you say-BLEECK!
Burning Spear, please!
ho hum
Throw up your lunch and run, throw up your lunch and run....
I'm sorry, I can't help myself-the dark side has taken over. When I hear this song, what I really hear is: Throw up your lunch and run, throw up your lunch and run.... Having said that, I will now go punish myself for being so unkind.

Ab--so--lute--ly........
Even with the fine musical help of Sly and Robbie, the vocals are weak, insipid, and void of passion.

Though my read of Nuance's comment may be incorrect, it didn't seem to be about Sinéad O'Connor trying something new in her music; rather, I understood the bit about "calling herself a Rastafarian" to be in reference to a supposed newly acquired faith in an exotic religion -- which just happened to coincide with the marketing of a new release.
Well, if you have Sinead's 2002 release, Sean-Nos Nua, there are numerous references to her growing interest in Rastafarianism. She even ends her introduction to the album by writing "All Glory to Jah in the highest." Her interest in this faith seems fairly sincere since I doubt she threw that in to help sell her Celtic album. That being said, the accent does sound a tad phony in this song, but the band is tight so I give it a 7 for now.

But, none the worse for wear, Ms. O'Connor may still find herself -- you know, after she matures. The legal troubles, suicide attempt, apparent misidentification of her own sexual orientation (also timed with a release), and various spouses, boyfriends, and fathers to her children -- some being one and the same person, I think -- may all just be a phase she's going through. Give her time; she's not even 40 yet.

Biography by Jason Ankeny Sinéad O'Connor ranked among the most distinctive and controversial pop music stars of the 1990s, the first and in many ways the most influential of the numerous female performers whose music dominated airwaves throughout the decade. Brash and outspoken — her shaven head, angry visage, and shapeless wardrobe a direct challenge to the popular culture's long-prevailing notions of femininity and sexuality — O'Connor irrevocably altered the image of women in rock; railing against long-standing stereotypes simply by asserting herself not as a sex object but as a serious artist, she kick-started a revolt which led the way for performers ranging from Liz Phair to Courtney Love to Alanis Morissette.
This is supposed to make me like her?! Liz Phair okay, but the rest? Nope, that's not flying with me. I like the sex object female rocker myself. Come on, throw a guy a bone once in a while. Can you picture a young Stievie Nicks bald and in camouflage and combat boots? Me, niether.

Whenever Sinead makes a decision musically, it's the wrong one. C'mon. "T'row down your arms? Drop 'Dem?" She doesn't sound black to begin with, and really just blows it here. Sounds very wannabe.
I find this difficult too. Other singers don't try to be something they aren't. I'm thinking of I shot the sherriff' for example, by Clapton. He just uses his normal voice and accent, so it works. It would have been a disaster falsifying a Rasta accent.

I look at the album cover and see that cute little brown eyed girl on her First Communion and I can't connect it with the same woman who tore up a photo of the Pope on live TV.
Sinead has a strong theme that carries through all of her lyrics. She speeks to the frustrations of a world trapped in boxes of "faith". I sense the strength of spirit that is our inheritance when I listen to her words. I recommend reading the words to "Songs of Faith and Courage", her best album in my book. You may find some connections between these two images in your head through her stories. For sure, there in lies her explanation!
Is this played every single day? ...So much music, so little time.
irie...

yea, we definitely should shun all artists that experiment with different styles - everybody should play just what we expect of them, dammit. yep, all bands should get a sound and stick with it forever...Not.

It's a little creepy. But if I had to pick one thing to like about Sinéad... I would say it's that she's always been a little creepy.
honestly, enough already! i'm not sure why this being overplayed so much, 2 days in a row is too much for me! i could tolerate this song a bit more if it wasn't played so often.
God only knows how I hate this song.

I don't think it's a Jamaican accent, I think it's her Irish accent. T'row down yer arms...
Cool choice. Sinead's got grace and style

Sinead doing reggae... Interesting combo... Dont think it does justice to her voice but it is still nice... 6/10
not bad, but can the phony jamaican accent sinead.
Great album from Sly & Robbie (one of this years highlights). Thanks to the recent uploader in the LRC!
I don't have a big problem with her doing reggae (I kinda like "Downpressor Man"), but this doesn't do it for me.
Got to say - there's something special about this CD. After a few listens its powers are released. Turn it up - don't frown - It's all good
Knowing what she can do, this is a disapointing effort.
This just doesn't work for me.
