nice (very short) song    now I will investigate the film, might be cool too

i would like this track more if it didnt have like jet airplane sounds in the middle of it? like some wierd over the top production mistake
Probably already been said, lovely track and definite Nick Drake feels on this
A voice like Nick Drake meets Cat Stevens.
I like it -- cool sound.
I'll be checking out the full album.

I'm also getting a bit of a Neil Halstead vibe.
Nice tune.

It might be more difficult not to sound like someone than to deliberately do so.

The film is an amazing example of late 90s surf films. Jack Johnson is wonderful film maker and surfer in addition to being a musician. The soundtracks to his films are always on point and I think the RP listeners would enjoy them thoroughly.

Yep, add me to the list. Good song.
What's the name of that sparkly instrument? I've heard it in other songs and don't know what makes that sound.

Also can be heard at 1:37 and 1:58 in Curtains by Peter Gabriel.
Getting my tooth Pulled after listening to this song. They will be forever entwined

We love you, Mr Hannigan.
6.8?! This is fabulous, the only complaint is that it is too short!
Great Nick Drake'ish song. I hope he doesn't mind being called Nick Drake'ish.
Too short!
At first I thought I heard Alan Rickman singing. Maybe it's the bad Triple Sec. Very distinctive voice. Nice.
Reminds me of Joe Pisapia
The actual Lyrics:

Running just as fast as you can,
You jump ship way quick but maybe it's Thicker Than Water,
I've got some good news for you my friend,
Man is faster,
You jump ship way quick but maybe its Thicker Than Water,
One day you wake up and realize just what you're after.

"Hannigan makes no attempt to hide from the comparisons to Drake and other artists like Cat Stevens or Elliott Smith, citing each as an influence. He says he's particularly inspired by Drake's "experimentation with tunings and melody.""

You're listening to the wrong station. And you knowing the lyrics, is wrong too.

I came to the comment page to say exactly that.  Thanks, BobLoblaw.
Always loved this tune. That entire album takes one away to the Sea...
it's a good run of songs thats got me reading all the great thoughts of you brilliant people...wow dylan, then baez now
Never heard this. Like it a lot. Very Nick-ish, but not like Alexei Murdoch, who seems a bit slavish in his imitation...

Cross between Nick Drake and Cat Stevens (remember him?)

It is very difficult to get over that.  I doubt he ever heard the song we know, but, so it goes...
Nick Drake.

This is clearly at least a 7. I gave it an 8. Will consider giving it a 9 maybe if it hits me harder next time. It looks like the movie that this soundtrack is based on is sort of gangsta w/profane language. So the music is probly the best thing about it. *shrug* BTW: The movie was released in 1999, not 1997.

Good Music
hmm, only a 6.7 rating. Much better than that.
I have a bunch of Nick Drake albums and upon hearing this, I came here to see which album it is on since I don't recall hearing it on anything I've got at home.

Oops.

I think this has to be a tribute to Nick Drake. The lyrical, musical and singing styles are so alike.  I can't be sure, because I haven't heard anything else from Todd Hannigan, (and there is nothing else by him in the RP playlist).
I really like it.  As Romeotuma says, it be deep.  7

That COULD Be Jack Johnson on the cover, but I guess he is too busy.

Tiffany?  That song was done by Tommy James & The Shondells.

more genius!
The first riff of this song is right out of "Silvio Rodriguez" "Playa Giron". Pure Coincidence?
Are we talking oil and BP?
This entire album stirs my imagination.
Yes....deeper than "Deep throats" throat.

People with good grammar don't need to cut and paste...  I can understand if it is something you need to do often, considering your comma splices, and your question punctuated without a question mark...

this really is a fantastic song...

Interesting. According to his bio on his website, he's also a producer for these surf films. I checked his "discography" and it's almost all DVDs and soundtracks.
Wow, that started out sounding like an Arcade Fire song.  Haunting, chilling, I like.

Pretty good — I thought for a minute it was a Jose Gonzalez song, which is a compliment.

Love it!!  I too had to look to see if this was a recently uncovered Nick Drake treasure.

Man, was I surprised to see it was from a surf movie - leave it to Jack Johnson to pick an aetherial tune to go with a surf film - that genre tends to have a lot of loud speed metal - I watch many of mine with something else for sound.

So, one more gets added to my buy list - and maybe a film. . .THANKS Bill!

He sounds like an Ottawa area folkie from the early 1970s.... trying to remember the name.

Sweet, but why so short?

Unbelievably not Nick Drake. How did he do that?
