Have you ever been close to tragedy
Or been close to folks who have
Have you ever felt a pain so powerful
So heavy you collapse (No? Well...)

I've never had to knock on wood
But I know someone who has
Which makes me wonder if I could
It makes me wonder if
I've never had to knock on wood
And I'm glad I haven't yet
Because I'm sure it isn't good
That's the impression that I get

Have you ever had the odds stacked up so high
You need a strength most don't possess
Or has it ever come down to do or die
You've got to rise above the rest (No? Well...)

I've never had to knock on wood
But I know someone who has
Which makes me wonder if I could
It makes me wonder if
I've never had to knock on wood
And I'm glad I haven't yet
Because I'm sure it isn't good
That's the impression that I get

I'm not a coward,
I've just never been tested
I'd like to think that if I was,
I would pass
Look at the tested and think there but for the grace go
I might be a coward,
I'm afraid of what I might find out

I've never had to knock on wood
But I know someone who has
Which makes me wonder if I could
It makes me wonder if
I've never had to knock on wood
And I'm glad I haven't yet
Because I'm sure it isn't good
That's the impression that I get

Never had to, but I better knock on wood
Cause I know someone who has
Which makes me wonder if I could
It makes me wonder if I
Never had to but I better knock on wood
Because I'm sure it isn't good
And I'm glad I haven't yet
That's the impression that I get

the singers voice is that way because his throat was cut from someone throwing a bottle while they were performing.

haha.  was just thinking the same...  i thought that maybe the days of having to hear it were over, but alas...  {#No}

This song is CRAP!
I'm hearing hard-soled wing tips and crepe-soled creepers.

No, there was just the Bosstones, who sent them a cease-and-desist when they tried to use that name. So they changed it. Then the Bosstones broke up, and they thought they could go back to the Bosstones but really what's the point.
BILL!!!!

Stop this good music now - it´s already 1:30 AM and Germans have to go to bed!

You´re truely redicolous - all this good stuff...

If these are the "Mighty Mighty Bosstones," does that mean that there are "Non-Mighty Mighty Bosstones" somewhere? What would a "Non-Mighty Mighty Bosstone" look like, anyway? Like the song, BTW.
A non mighty bosstone doesn't wear a suit on the album cover.

love the bridge:

Ouch, the yelling in place of what is usually known as singing is awful! Otherwise the tune itself is decent. I give it a
I always thought the lead singer on this tune sounded like Frank Zappa. Although in no way could they even approach Frank's genius!
First the Primitive Radio Gods, and now this. Another '95/'96 flashback. Thank you,
The one ska song everybody knows. I give it a 6, and that's the highest I'll go on ska.
Some songs are best left in the past.

I don't know about "ridiculously profound," but the lyrics make the song pretty okay.
what a pleasant surprise!
It may not be great, but I like it!
Yay - ska!

A shitty song from a shitty band. That whole fun ska band thing that all the frat-boys love makes me wanna
Does anybody remember The Crazy Eights? from pdx in the mid-80s?
Not a big fan of the Bosstones but I find this song ridiculously profound
too much with the shouting and the screaming.

When you get older, you start doing that again. It's called not giving a darn.
Run and hide ...
This album made the trip to the Middle East with me...It will always have a special place in my heart... S~
Greatest band ever! Not their best track, but I guess I can\'t really imagine RP playing \'Cowboy Coffee\'.
Not the best ska IMHO, never been...but enjoyable though.
Knock-knock-knock
last I heard from a buddy of mine the lead "singer" was a bit rough from singing this way.
Thank you, thank you for playing some Bosstones.

Its all good. It brings back 90s memories. Kind of like hearing Billy Idol or something.
??Billy Idol had a motorcycle accident in 1990 and as is so often the case, evidently really liked his pain meds. He did sober up, but hasn't done anything at all significant since the '80's.

Cthulhu & Dagon likely hate this too. Too up-beat & light-hearted for the Ancient Gods & other Elder Things
Yep. I think they prefer to party to DJ Azathoth "whose name no lips dare speak aloud, and who gnaws hungrily in inconceivable, unlighted chambers beyond time and space amidst the muffled, maddening beating of vile drums and the thin monotonous whine of accursed flutes." ph'nglui mglw'nafh Cthulhu R'lyeh wgah'nagl fhtagn

By you and what army?
You know, there are some songs with lame lyrics that I don't mind. This isn't one of them.

I was a huge MMB fan in the early days but this stuff doesn't really do it for me. Still quality music though.

These guys bring back such a wonderful memory for me. I love this song more then I love my parents, my brother, and i'm sure i love it more then i will one day love my wife!
So you gave it a 6? :) Seriously, you better hope the women you date don't find this on Google, or you're going to be a bachelor for a long, long time... I give this minor classic an 8 for the tune, 5 for the occasionally painful lyrics...

but what makes this one particularly disappointing is that some bosstones is worth searching for, just not this.....
the song and all ska should be banished from earth

Ditto.
Funny you should type "Ditto" since this song is used as bumper music (on heavy rotation, even) on the most listened-to radio talk show.
where're these guys??.. love this tune!!

Is this wrong? Uhh...oops?
Other bosstones I've heard hasnt been bad. This song has always gotten on my nerves, it did a decade ago and still does.

Yuck. This is among their best songs, and it still stinks.
Interesting...if you think all their stuff stinks, how much of it have you really listened to? I mean, you must have listened to a lot of it to know that a)it all stinks, and b)this is the "best" of the stinky. Did you have a room mate or relative that listened to all of their stuff all the time? Because I can't see how anybody would subject themselves to music they find disgusting just to determine which song is not as bad as the others. My point is, how do you know this is their best? Do you really mean it's just the most successful/popular?

Phony baloney fake ska.
i'm really glad this sound stayed in the mid-90s.
Yuck. This is among their best songs, and it still stinks.
This is probably the one MMB song I don't really need to hear anymore. Just a bit overplayed a bit in my town. Oh well, you take the good with the bad. I can survive until the next song.
Unfortunately overplayed.
PERFECT for Monday morning :-) That bass line is killer, too. 8.
This is a great song! Good to hear it on RP. Makes me want to get up and dance around the room.....
this was OK in highschool .. doesnt fly so well anymore though
Not a song I would normally enjoy- but F*&^ me running if I'm not reminded of drinking w/ the guys after Rugby training. Good times. Jeez these things get down inside your head...
Woohoo! ah - remembrances of marching band. One of my favorite tunes to play in the stands!
I never thought that I would hear it here - but nice it happened :) It's a nice song :) Different
man, I like this song
This song reminds me of the theme music for "America's Funniest Home Videos".

Lovin' the mid-90's flashbacks today, keep it up Bill!
Ditto.
I got burnt out on this because every radio station in my city played this song when it came out to the point of overkill. Hearing it now just brings back memories of the overexposure.
I was about to give this song a 1, but then I was glad to find I already have.
Lovin' the mid-90's flashbacks today, keep it up Bill!
I seldom hear the words of a song, but this is one exception. The contrast between the thoughtful lyrics and the hell-bent-for-leather pace is just too cool for words.
hey - it's their least intersting album yet! yippee! ("feh", guess i'm just too cool... dance on)
For all those who are 'too cool' to like this anymore... feh. Let's dance!

Where are these guys now?
Dicky Barrett (singer) had the morning radio show on Indie 103.1 here in Los Angeles earlier in the year until Michael Steele got rid of him. He is the announcer for Jimmy Kimmel live. I'm not sure what happened to the skankin' "Bosstone", although one member plays with 'The Toasters' and another has a side project called 'Avoid One Thing'. Most likely they'll get back together again at some point down the road for a album/tour.

Really? The Mighty Mighty Bosstones? I would have never guessed this would show up on RP. Isn't this the group that has the guy that just dances in a suit? And poorly for that matter.
That dancing is called skanking... and when you see this guy grooving on stage, you just can't help but want to join in. Bosstones concerts were great fun. Where are these guys now?
not a fantastic song...not a fantastic band... but god, I cant help but love this song. it reminds me of the good ol' days.
I have the sudden urge to watch Americas Funniest Home Videos. Please, someone kick me in the groin.

Haven't heard this one in about 6 years, since my days of SKA band fanaticism. Toad's Place, New Haven, CT, first concert ever - Spring Heeled Jack opening for The Bosstones, amazingly enough a great concert.
Wasn't the whole ska thing pretty much over then?

Ah, the Bosstones. Proof that signing with a big label will suck the life out of you.

The BossTones prove that if your music rocks enough, all the turgid lyrics in the world won't wreck that.

Holy Crap!!!
