oh i'd like to find myself
trapped in some desert town with you
just me and you

my long black hair waving in the drive-in
me waving at you, my lover
from some ancient balcony

but like a
first division i see you
and your gone
way out could id run to

come back
come back
come back

but you're
gone california
and it's just my fate
making me blue
why else would i see you
today

but im not in some desert town
and you're not there with me
im underground in NYC

the city of perpetual motion
the city that never sleeps
thats alright, i wasn't tired anyways

i was so close getting clear
thought i had nothing to fear

you'd be on a plane
and you'd be gone
and it would be done
but there are

18 million people in this town
who spend the day
bummin' around
just to bump into you
on third avenue

yeah

and its a
pale moon
burning sun
when will i see my only one

pale moon
burning sun
when will i see my only one

well i think it's unbelievable
i think it's incredible
it's magical
it's tragic

but i know we'll meet again someday
and we'll be very far away
and i'll know you
and you'll know me
and we're gonna both agree

that we belong together
we belong together
we belong together

we belong together
we belong together
we belong together

cause it's a pale moon
burning sun
when will i see my only one

pale moon
burning sun
when will i see my only one

yeah
yeah

oh
oh i'd like to find myself
trapped in some desert town with you
just me and you
just me and you

Been listening to Shannon's songs ever since I first heard her here on RP 10 years ago. She keeps getting better and better. Damn shame Bill has only 3 of her older songs on rotation … her new albums are even better: Western Ballad (the latest? from 2011) and Coldwater (from 2009) with the really cool "Bohemian Wedding Song". There's a very good live rendition of that song online … look for "Music in the Hall" from Oxford, Mississippi.
Standout songs, IMHO:

In the Name of Us, Honey (Geronimo)
Leave Your Bags By The Door (Geronimo)
Weathervane (Geronimo)
Pale Moon (Geronimo)
Bury My Heart on the Jersey Shore (Jukebox Sparrows)
It Ain't Easy Bein' Green (Jukebox Sparrows)
Kate, we have to go back to the island!

Real, honest, sincere voice. Had the iPod on shuffle today while riding my motorcycle down the interstate and this song came on. I had to pull over at the next exit to see who it was! The song version I have is on Putumayo Presents American Folk, a collection of Americana that includes Patty Griffin, Natalie Merchant, Lucy Kaplansky and others. I didn't know who she was until today - but that voice is unforgettable!

I come here for the music, not to see what anyone looks like.  if you are into looks, watch MTV or VH-1.

I don't "care," but I am interested.  I like knowing what people look like.  If you don't like viewing the pictures posted here, shut your eyes and listen. . .

Sounds like Nelly Furtado, she even looks a bit like her, but still she is beautiful... So who cares? I do, i like to see beautiful women... {#Mrgreen}

Who is this girl trying to be?"

{#Cheers}

Interesting question, but even better response!

That being said, I'm surprised by/disappointed in the number of comments about her album photo.  Yes, she looks beautiful...so what?  This is Radio Paradise, not a modeling website....

Which would make her as far from country as one can get.

True...if you believe that where you originally come from determines what you are and how you can express yourself.

She starts with a 7 just for the picture {#Twisted}
sounds like shannon to me. sweet, thick voice like nobody else has. let's hear more!
Sounds like three groups trying to play four songs at same time!!

gorgeous, and she sings well too! More photos please!
Nice voice...she must smoke woodbine's though
A bit like Maria Muldaur...
Very nice, go you good thing.
Just bought this from this very page, what a wonder filled album this song is particularly, personally poignant?

Yeup. Kinda goes on and on and on, too ...
oh i'd like to find myself trapped in some desert town with you just me and you ...she wins!
One of my favorite tunes off this record! I was able to see her with Charlie Sexton (also produced the record) on guitar! Ha-Ha! :-)

More like Patti Griffin to me.
Oh man. I saw her at the Circle Bar in New Orleans last year. Phenomenal. Goosebumps. Misty. Amazing. 9.
Looks a little bit like Liv Tyler.
I wish I could enjoy that "wry" sound in her voice. Worked on the first album, but isn't doing it here.
Just slightly like Stevie Nicks

Not I, but I certainly doled out an 8. Patti Griffin-esque, but with her own panache.

Pretty decent I give it a 7
I've liked Shannon since her debut...still do...solid 7
The version I have on the Puntamayo Folk compilation is a better mix IMO. I had never heard of her before but I'm digging it.
I saw her open for Son Volt a few weeks ago. She has a nice voice and her music is enjoyable, but a little slow. The crowd was definitely ready for Farrar to take the stage.
I heard another version of this tune; more countrified and sung as a duet with whatchamacallim?

Pleasant, but I wasn't paying much attention.

she does have a generic sound. She's enjoyable, not very novel, but does everyone have to be?
Yawwwwwwwwwnnnnn... Sounds like about a million other people. I don't like the affected voice either.

Way to go , Bill! Shannon is a real talent. This album was produced by her label mate - Charlie Sexton. His new album "Cruel & Gentle Things" is wonderful. Check it out!
I second that opinion on the Charlie Sexton album. It's awesome. Shannon's album is ok, but not spectacular.
Love Shannon McNally!!!!! Bill, please put "Beautiful and Strange" in rotation, it's even better than this song.

Agreed....her first album had a bit more of an impact in the "Whose voice is that?" category.
