the banjo players gets all the girls
Is that a harp I hear? I bet he wears a frock.

Give it up for the banjo, girl!
I heard the NPR piece where Stevens was commissioned to write about the then recent sighting of an Ivory Billed woodpecker in the alluvial floodplain of the White river in Arkansas. Funny piece, and kinda insightful. Song makes more sense after you've heard that. My Dad was a worker in the Singer furniture plant, and my uncle a duck guide in the area. Whole different life in that nape 'O the woods!

My 18yo son just introduced Sufjan Stevens to me LAST NIGHT!

oh my goodness.. after all these years of not being able to stand him.. I think he's starting to wear on me....

But the wings?  Really?

I am mostly of a fan of his music but this video from an appearance on Austin City Limits is just goofy:

I agree with you... ridiculous request by that person. We're not all like that, I promise! I also happen to love Poland - been to Warsaw, Krakow, Katowiecza (don't recall the spelling there), and the southern mountains... beautiful country!!

As for Sufjan - I kind of like what I've heard.. but kind of a 'meh' attitude about it.. haven't given him much of a chance, but don't turn it off either when he comes on. Someone to put on a list to check out a bit more I s'pose.

Wow.  That was embarrassing.  Sorry, meloman.  {#Redface}
Lots of Sufjan haters out there. Alas. Guess it's not rockin' enough for them.
I like this, and just about everything else I've heard from him.
I like it.

Sorry.. he's probably a really nice person.. I just don't care for his music.

Good to hear that somebody is caring {#Dancingbanana}
I am not sure on is he a nice person or not, as his music is definitely something I care. {#Cowboy}

Heh. Latin is foreign to everyone. But relatively easy to figure out. Basic biology is foreign to many. But relatively easy to figure out. And what is it with you and languages that aren't English? You're missing a lot...
Make you a deal: we'll provide translations, if you spell and punctuate properly. Education ain't free ya know. eastcoast wrote:

Let me guess. You were out back smoking a big fattie during zoology class?
Reminds me of the song the hippie guy was playing in Animal House. Where is Bluto to come and smash his guitar against the wall? "Sorry."

Same.
Ojala. Until it shows up in the flesh, the lord-god bird is stubbornly remaining a ghost of southern swamps to remind us all the nature we've snuffed out. Geo_orc1 wrote:

There's an interesting little story behind this song. I encourage anyone with a strange curiousity like mine to check it out; Audubon, the Singer sewing machine Co., WWII, and a red-crested bird. And if not for RP I'd have never heard it to start with. I do like this place a lot.
thanks for putting us on to that one... what a sad, sweet story, and the song tells it with such simple beauty.

This story? "Sufjan Stevens wrote and recorded this tune exclusively for NPR as part of an All Things Considered feature looking at the way Stevens goes about writing music." also, on the npr site, this song's called "the lord god bird." why is it not fully titled here on RP?
I'm sorry, but zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
Very pretty.
This is an incredibly beautiful song

Thanks! Direct link.
Uh. Yawn.
Simple, but beautiful.
I think Bill picks his Sufjan Stevens songs based on how short the titles are! I'm just kidding, this is a great pick. I was just surprised to see how few of his songs on RP have titles that would take 5 minutes to scroll across my iTunes player (as most from his latest album do).
Nice tune - Interesting history. Bill, thanks for adding that.

On the contrary, IMHO.
Gorgeous. But I'm on a Sufjan binge right now, so I'm not objective.
