Yes, but having moved to the UK 15 years ago i'm pretty confident the dick-head quotient is significantly lower here.  Just an observation.

How about now?

Props to the millions who showed up yesterday in the U.S., Canada, and around the world to protest the big orange buffoon.
Apparently, Neil Young went to "Don McLean" school of shoddy symbolism. Or was it the other way round? I don't care.

Neil=Truth.  Listen up to a true hero.
There needs to be more protest music and less bubble gum hip hop that is distracting youth from the future they are doomed to inherit.

Keep it up Neil!
Not one of Neil's better efforts

The garden is already dried up and gone.  Big business sucked it dry.  (song is only a 6— but overall Neil is 10)

Should be played with D Byrne's "Nothing But Flowers"!
Hey Neil, "keep on rockin' in the free world"! This song is about more than just the wars in Iraq & Afghanistan. They are being conducted (and Canucks are involved up to our necks) for the benefit of greedheads like Cheney and his Haliburton cronies to line their own pockets - for this young Canadians and Americans are laying down their lives? The pillaging of the Middle East for oil is destroying our ecology, and Canada's contributing to greenhouse gases in a major way with development of the Athabaska Tar Sands. Most of the production from this is piped straight south to feed the insatiable American demand for SUVs, etc. What are we going to do after the greedheads have had their way; "after the Garden is gone"?
Bill should play this one after "Woodstock" to catch all of Neil's irony....

Screechy political songs, yech.
I'm staying outta this one, but Neil rocks and thinks, and has the nerve to say out loud what he (and lots of others think too). That's all good in my book. Guess I didn't stay out after all...
So today I learned... relearned (I have short-term memory problems; my parents tried to warn me about smoking that stuff, but I wouldn't be swayed... diswayed?) anyway... I learned that Neil Young is Canadian. I love Canada. I love Neil Young. I love music... so I listen to RP... and I'm so grateful. It would be nice if everyone would sweep their porches and clean their backyards, like someone else pointed out. I thought that was a good suggestion... and try not to worry so much - Elle Littela (Emily's older sister)
so back to how terrible this song is...
No, opportunistic is Halliburton screwing over our own soldiers who put their lives on the line every day. Go on, wave that flag and push the red meat, war profiteers. See you in Hell. I for one am damn glad that the rest of the world cares enough about our mutual future that they raise their voices to say what they think about American policy. I am an American whose opinions and concerns don't stop at the borders of the U.S. And I doubt yours do either. If there's one thing I hate its a hypocrite. eastcoast wrote:

Freedom of speech goes both ways, doesn't it. Sounds like everyone here is entitled to that under our constitution. How does apartheid fit into all this or is that just your trigger word. If I don't care for someone opinion then I can either ignore or comment about it...as you say free speech. It is quite a paradox. Unfortunately some people respond more defensively than others instead of just accepting there opinion as just that, an opinion. evermovingtarget wrote:

You think US is affected? Seen what's happening around the world as a direct result of US politics? Oh, and what's up with the "been sucking money from US citizens" thing? Here's hoping that Neil and others like him, no matter what their country of origin or current citizenship, continue to voice their objections to US foreign policy and "the war on terror" that America was lured into, vis-à-vis mass brain washing and blatant lies. Say what? So anyone that's not an American citizen has to agree with what George Bush does?! Yah, that makes perfect sense! We should all stand idly by while a brain-dead monkey starts wars for no other reason than to bolster his own shaky ego. Are you happy and proud that 1000s of innocent American kids (aka "troops") have been slaughtered or maimed in Iraq just because George Bush is a moron? Go ahead George, send another 20,000 troops to Iraq to get killed; what do you care? Might as well invade Iran and North Korea while you're at it. And apparently I don't have the right to voice my disapproval, because I'm not an American citizen. You can't tell me any intelligent person actually still supports this moron or his war.

Seeing how this thread turned political, allow me to throw in my 2 cts. Anyone in America who's still buying the Bush's speech can only be doing so because either (1) they own stock in the weapon industry - why do you think he's got the backing of ivy league schools? Look at where their money comes from - or (2) they are so busy/lazy/uninterested to go seek alternative info. Since you're part of the RP listener base, I'll assume you're a progressionist at heart. Now, I have little hope that the U.S. citizen can possibly have any control over what the current administration is doing. However, complacence with it can only bring trouble to you (in much the same way the Palestinians/Lebaneses who voted for Hamas/Hezbollah are paying the price for exercing their democratic rights). If you think Iraq was the end of it, you're deeply mistaken; That was just a piece in the big puzzle. Inform yourself about what's happening, spread the word and make some noise to show you're not condoning the atrocities perpetrated in your name. Kevin Spacey's sketch on "Saturday Night Live" was funny, and Young posted it on his site, along with all the major media reviews of this record, pro and con. (They're running about 3-to-1 pro, so far.) For a guy known for his "sensitivity," that shows guts, I think. I like the way this song refers back to the "we've got to get back to the garden" classic by his pal Joni Mitchell. Young is a thinker, whether or not you like the way he thinks. Personally, I like the crunch of his guitar... Fredrikson wrote:

Oh puh-leeeze. And Spain is in a media blackhole where they only get the news from smoke signals, right? One doesn't have to have sat in on 'intelligence briefings' to see what's going on around here. While the whole world's watching, it's also shrinking. C.
What about all the speeches and television appearances, and press conferences, and written interviews? should I go on?...Geecheeboy wrote:

Neil Young truly is the master of subtlety. He's almost as subtle as this album is good!

Which is why most (maybe all) your governments (plural) like to shove 'freedom' down other countries throats whether they want it USA style or not

You are here in America, making American money, if you were that concerned then become American. Sorry, man!

I like how every song from this album results in a huge amount of posts and political debate world-wide. Hate/Love him, his music, politics, this album etc --I think he achieves a really important goal with this album: He creates and encourages dialogue amoung people. Whether that was his intention or not, you gotta admit it happens. Generally dialogue is a good thing, especially between nations. Go Neil. For the record, I'm Canadian, I love Neil Young, I hate this album.

I have no problem with the political message, but the song does nothing for me. Repetitive and whiny. I like Thievery Corporation's "Amerimacka" or "Richest Man in Babylon" for a political song with an awesome groove.
Yes it was killer! Neil Rocks! UltraNurd wrote:

A solid follow-up to Joni's "Woodstock": "We've gotta get ourselves back to the garden..."

Bang on!!!!!!!! BTW- a neil song ranked under 7? come on!! Sorry, but US foreign policy has an affect on people far and wide. Of course people comment on things that affect them. I think the fact that those artists don't become american is an indication of their concern. We don't blame americans for all that shit. We just blame the 51% who voted for that moronic puppet.

There is a difference between taking issue with a country's politcal leadership and insulting the place or people that live there. I think Neil has good grasp of that concept. As far as I know, Neil has had plenty of opportunities to become a citizen way before Bush was president. He's been around since the 60's, that would give him at least 40years. And if America hasn't improved in 40years, you may have a point, but I think this great land of the United States has improved. I am also uncertain, when was the last time Canada was attacked. It is amazing how some Canadians come to the United States to escape a lousy currency and high tax rates and then complain about our government. I am glad you are standing tall with the other 49% of Americans who voted for the other moronic puppet, but please keep standing in Canada spewing off your venomous condemnation while supporting your new elected conservative prime minister.

why most of the people besides some americans think America is the bully of the world ??? Neil was always an antiwar fighter .What's wrong with that ??
