I've got a smile on my face, and I've got four walls around me
I've got the sun in the sky, all the water surround me
Oh you know, yeah I win now and sometimes I lose
I've been battered, but I never bruise
It's not so bad

And I say way-hey-hey, it's just an ordinary day
And it's all your state of mind
At the end of the day
You've just got to say it's all right

Gina sings on the corner, what keeps her from dying
Let them say what they want, but she won't stop trying (Oh, you know)
She might stumble, they push her 'round
She might fall, but she'll never lie down
It's not so bad

And I say way-hey-hey, it's just an ordinary day
And it's all your state of mind
At the end of the day,
You've just got to say it's all right.

It's all right, it's all right
(It's all right)

'Cause in this beautiful life there's always some sorrow
And It's a double-edged knife, but there's always tomorrow (Oh, you know)
It's up to you now if you sink or swim
Just keep the faith that your ship will come in
It's not so bad

And I say way-hey-hey, it's just an ordinary day
And it's all your state of mind
At the end of the day
You've just got to say

I say way-hey-hey, it's just an ordinary day
And it's all your state of mind
At the end of the day
You've just got to say it's all right
It's all right, it's all right

I've got a smile on my face, and I've got four walls around me

In horstman's defense, it sort of does.  I never thought of it that way........

More GBS!  Seen them in concert a few times and it is a great show, plus, since I'm a homer, Sean McCann is married to a St. Paul girl.  Makes it so much better, he's almost a Minnesotaite!!!

Holy!
I don't really care for the song either, but please don't be trashing Canucks. There are great people on the other side of every border, we all just have to get past the controllers out there to realize it.
Energizing, uplifting, joyous, down to earth, good natured, kind and carefree..... ...these words describe Canadians, and to be specific, Newfoundlanders and their music. This song by Great Big Sea, some of our finest sons from 'The Rock', is typical of Newfoundland, Newfoundlanders, and Canadians in general. We're good people.......... ....and those silly children throwing insults in their sandbox in the posts below me....they don't speak for the millions of friendships between people who live in Canada and the US....

My condolences to you folks that live above the responsible government parallel... folks in the country run by the village idiot don't get to hear this very often, and it is still an enjoyable song. Just turn off that commercial radio, stick to listening to RP only, and you will find that this group isn't played often enough.
Some Canadian's are JUST wankers who live in their little geographical bubble until they die and are heard from no more. Please forgive them as they are afflicted by a mental deficiency.Stupdity. Open you mind...................
As a transplanted Newf, I know of many more wicked tunes of the same calibre as GBS. Newfoundland is an undiscovered musical jewel that even Canada hasn't realized yet!! Ever heard of the Wonderful Grand Band or DA SLYME, Scott Goudie or Red Island. Superb musicians that could hold their own on the folk/rock circuit worldwide. Great Big Sea is just the commercial edge of a huge celtic/Irish/Newfoundland/Nova Scotian explosion. Check out the East Coast Music Awards!! (Celt, Irish, French, Scots, and Galatian sort of meld together ...........ask the Chieftains...............IZ ALL GUD! )
Snore me a new one.
Awesome! I love this song :) (though I think the live version is significantly better - Road Rage is a great album.)
shite
WTF? Make it stop!!!
I finally found something that does not belong here besides the Beatles. A 3. Maybe it was the lyrics?

Anything by Great Big Sea makes me stop working and immediately turn up RP full blast. And if I'm NOT working, I also feel compelled to grab a cold beer.
met these guys- really nice- 'cept Allan Doyle loves himself....like a LOT!!
I am lyrically astounded
Awesome! I love this song, but I've not heard the studio version before - just the live one from "Road Rage". Also, nice segue from Knopfler's "Hill Farmer's Blues". Great songs, both of them.

Yup. I heard this song start with the stupid beeps and shouted "NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO"
makes me want to jump and mosh

Yeah...it's not BAD...but it's the kind of pop-celt music that's awful disposable. but fun to listen to when it's on, I guess. TJ

That's funny. All I can think of when I hear any song by Great Big Sea is of some inane beer commercial. My first reaction when I heard this on RP was "What the hell?" Maybe I'm just grumpy cause I'm not drinking beer.
Maybe it's because they play many drinking songs. Makes you think there's not much to do in Newfoundland. Well, I love them. They are a lot of fun. I've been to quite a few concerts in Canada in the mid 1990's when I lived there. I saw them a few years ago here in Chicago and was a little dismayed how big their following was. They had groupies and security and everything.

I must say I'm quite amused... I was ready to jump on here and crack a joke about this sounding like a really lame beer commercial. Looks like I'm not the only one!
Saw these guys in Park City. Great show!

I saw them at a beer-laden company party some years ago... Fun.
Is beer-laden related to bin-laden?

My fav is "Kiss My Irish Ass"!!!! How funny is that for a song!!!
Follow this with Cape Bretonner Ashley MacIsaac.
Have seen these guys live several times...the most fun you could possibly have! Highly recommend it!
Newfie rock rules!

GREAT to hear stuff from Great Big Sea! They're best heard in person, & not surprisingly, their live album Road Rage is the best of all their CDs, I think. Thanks for playing them, RP!
Anybody care to upload stuff from that CD? Love their upbeat, energetic sound!

Totally agree! I saw them in concert though after that album came out, and they performed the album in order....thought that was kinda weird. They are fantastic live though!
Never heard these guys before. Would make a great summer beer-bbq-backyard song.

newfieeeeeeeeeeee!
I just saw this band at the Mountain Stage show in Morgantown last month. Several of their fans came down from Newfoundland to cheer them on. I don't listen to this stuff often, but I do enjoy it.
All of a sudden, I have this urge to head to the pub for a pint of lager. (nice to see we're on the same wavelength, hee hee)
as a beer commercial, this would be very effective.
