Bali Ha'i may call you, any night, any day
In your heart, you'll hear it call you
Come away, come away

Bali Ha'i will whisper on the wind of the sea
Here am I your special island
Come to me, come to me

Your own special hopes, your own special dreams
Bloom on the hillside and shine in the streams

If you try, you'll find me
Where the sky meets the sea
Here am I your special island
Come to me, come to me

Bali Ha'i, Bali Ha'i, Bali Ha'i

Someday you'll see me floating in the sunshine
My head sticking out from a low-lying cloud
You hear me call you, singing through the sunshine
Sweet and clear as can be
Come to me, here I am, come to me
Bali Ha'i, Bali Ha'i

Some just do not get it! They have to vent their negative feelings despite the nature of this station, the PSD button and the option to choose favorites, main or mellow mix.
Such fond memories of seeing South Pacific live in Wash D.C. as a youngster.
Crikey! Peggy's voice! Some amazing restoration work.
“Bali Ha'i will always remind me of Better Call Saul and the special bond shared between Kim & Jimmy!” Posted 3 weeks ago by cyberjoe *beautiful connection!

I will always have a mental picture of my late father standing over the living room cabinet stereo listening to almost all of South Pacific. Before the age of 20 (!!), he was already a WWII Pacific Navy combat vet. He seemed eager to talk about the beautiful post-war Philippines and gals (with a smile)--but he would seldom or never talk more than 2 minutes about the horrors of the fleet at Saipan or his destroyer getting hit by a kamikaze six months later in Dec. '44.

He did cry on hearing this song and other tracks in South Pacific.

Cool story. Thank You for sharing it.

Wikipedia claims Peggy Lee recorded 1100 recordings with a total of 270 songs. Any artists out there that know she wrote much more that never was recorded? I thought so.
Kaa. Sorry
Anyone else hear Katy from Jungle book?

Peggy Lee's "Christmas Carousel" album is probably one of the best Christmas collectons i have heard

Picture this: I am an 18 years old with all the accompaning attitude. I am travelling with my aging mother in Tahiti. We are taking a ferry from one of Tahiti's islands to the next. We are riding atop the open-air ferry with some remarkably handsome French sailors. I am trying my best to look 'alone' sitting next to Mom, who at that very moment was overcome with the urge to belt out
"Bali Ha'i". Never have I wanted to curl up and die so badly...this song will forever transport me to that moment!!

wonderful story, thanks for sharing

The depth of your culture is what is average.

Anyone recognize "Immigrant Song"?
Was Jimmy Page into show tunes as well as teenagers?

It seems to be a pretty clear homage by Mr. Page, though many Zeppelin fans may not know this song.

If I recall my PBS rockumentary history... Isn't she the gal that made female sexiness acceptable, in a rather uptight era? After all, she did pull off "Fever," still looking like a lady...

come to lee.....come to lee....here peggy is....your special...island... :) I do enjoy it though...
That was great
Love that soaring voice.....
How about some Keola Beamer and slack key guitar? Love that sound!
"....and another thing. I'm tired of listening to this Lawrence Welk S*!t every night." /Lester Burnham
Songs about palm trees, sandy beaches, and boat drinks...I look out the window to snowy Missouri. Torn.
She looks doable on the album cover.

Hmmmm... LOVE Peggy Lee, HATE Rogers and Hammerstein. Quite a dilemma. Since I listened to the whole thing, I guess the incomparable Ms. Lee trumps the Dreadful Duo.
That pic on the album cover. Is Peggy missing a bicuspid?

Great song. This version is too mellow... makes me want to nap rather than travel.
.......maybe follow this up with a Patsy Cline tune.........
Sounds like kd lang.
awesome. i didn't know a form of this song other than the south pacific version existed. i want to go to an island now.
I love the music from South Pacific.
Take me to that special island. I am so ready.

This is awful. It may be the single worst song I've heard on RP. And the band backing her up is pure cheese. Perhaps a product of its time, but a time we have left far far behind. Also, this is not even a little bit 'rock.' Ah, I see some Led Zep coming up to save me....all is not lost. Now we're rockin'

Soooooooooooo suh-weet. Beautiful, just beautiful. I go looking for my girl when a song like this comes on. Now, if I just had one here. Lemee' see, where is she...
Until now I had only heard this song on the Original Soundtrack. This version pulled me from what I was doing to find out who was singing. Peggy has a sweet voice that carries this version beyond the demur, taupe arrangement of the band. It's almost a lullaby compared to the power of the instruments that punch through on the original. It would be nice to hear more of her, without the velvety fog of the arrangers on this song, to see if she's got some versatility as well as power in her renderings. I can certainly hear where O'Connor's influence for her issue Am I Not Your Girl? originates. Good to hear the variety on the playlists, but I thought the Zeppelin follow-up would have been Kashmir.....
If this is from the album 'The Very Best of Peggy Lee', I would hate to hear anything from 'The Average of Peggy Lee'.
Great segue from Israel Kamakawiwo'ole! Not the "usual" RP fare...but then, that's one of the best things about RP!

I used to think she opened this song with "Valley High" ... my bad I know. Soothing nevertheless.
Doh! It's the tropical islands set! Peggy Lee - Bali Ha'i Matson Belle - Float Israel Kamakawiwo'ole - Ka Huila Wai I wonder if we'll hear Don Ho...
Thank you, that was nice... but now I need a nap.

You are *out* there today, Bill. Floating in the surf. Very peaceful set here...
wow, never woulda thought about this on RP! Bill and Rebecca, you are amazing!
About a month ago I got to go to a screening of a new 70mm print of South Pacific. Wonderful. If you see that it's going to be shown in your area, don't miss it. It was done as part of preparing a new DVD, so that's an option too. Not sure of the release date for it, but the previous DVD was ugly it was so faded.
ehhhh...
Peggy Lee's Bali Ha'i lores me into paradise. (click here)
We need more Peggy Lee here.

Yes. It took me straight back to those days when my parents used to put this on the turntable and crank the handle !!!!!

Thanks for the upload. Any Peggy, pretty much, is completely welcome. She, um, gives me Fever and all that.
Kindly segue to Judy Garland singing Meet Me in St Louis.
Oh man, this song brings back memories. As a child, I LOOOVED this film. I love most all technicolor films.
god we all must be getting old.
My mom used to sing this to me when I was little!
Is that all there is?
I loved the music from South Pacific when I was a little girl. I knew the words (and still do) to all the songs.
