The images on the slideshow of this song, let alone any other song RP plays, are incredible. A big shout out to the photographic curators on RP’s themed photographic slideshow accompaniment to their music, the only addition to this outstanding RP feature would be the lyrics, tastefully presented on top of the images, in a way so as not to detract from the visuals. That way,..we’ll mesmerized and enraptured for hours.

You're absolutely right. As I'm writing this comment I'm waiting for the drumming to change in tempo or style. It hasn't. Rick Beato (music producer) on YouTube has made a few interesting videos demonstrating what happens when drumming is quantized and maintains a constant tempo throughout the entire song. If my memory serves me correct, he illustrates what John Bonham's drumming sounds like when quantized. It's as you say - very trying to hear.

Judging by the comments, this is the recurring Knopfler loop. I'm as much a fan as anyone, but that's a bit too much, well, repetition isn't quite the right word. Time to move on.

This is not a bad thing, in my opinion. I'm glad you're not complaining. There are others on this thread who are.   Seriously, this song transcends pretty much everything in my musical library. I AM going to purchase it, put it in my Sidekick, and take a summer roadtrip to Oregon, simply because I love this music so much. It really is the kind of song where once it begins, I just want to hit the road and keep on driving...

What a great video!  I noticed that Knopfler's guitar solo was cranked up, but the pianist's finishing solo was barely-audible. Still, it was a good song. I really wish Knopfler and Harris had been in closer proximity to each other - it was almost as if they were shouting across the stage at each other, and I know that wasn't the intention - could be they needed the distance so they could harmonize.

No matter what song, Knopfler has such a distinctive voice, he seems always to be singing the same song.  Upbeat, downbeat, ballad, blues, rock,...alla same, alla time.  Zzzzzzzzz......

(imoh) M.K. is probably in the top 10 most gifted guitarist that has ever walked the Earth. His technical ability, sense of melody and warmth of spirit merge for a truly exquisite musical texture that more then compensates for any vocal shortcoming. M.K.'s presence in any genre on any recording increases the quality or of that work exponentially. Check out his work with with Chet Atkins.

Mark Knopfler does have a country connection. He asked Vince Gill to become a member of Dire Straits in the late 80's. Vince Gill did not accept the offer.

The (english) uncle of a friend of mine was once married to Emmy-Lou.  He was also a Country singer and his was the first album by a non-american to make the C&W chart in the US.

My friend always referred to her as Aunty Emmy-Lou - so whenever I hear her voice, that is what I hear in my head.  Apparently, E-L went to see The Boss in concert and she asked to go backstage and meet him.  Both artistes stood speechless and jaw-dropped in awe at seeing each other.  How nice!

I am sorry for the hearing problems being experienced by earlier posters who have suggested that Mark Knopfler pretending to sound country is better than the deservingly award winning Plant/Krauss album Raising Sand.  It sounds like someone put a clothes peg on his nose.
