You Lucky Duck!  I wish I had been there too!

(National) Treasure.
I'm hearing the opening of Fleetwood Mac's Rhiannon in there occasionally (or the reverse, obviously, given the dates!). Just one of those little earworms that stuck its head out...
Thanks RP.
I guess this is just a little reality check/reminder for those of us who were marveling over the guitar playing of Mark Knopfler on that previous Dire Straits song. :-)
Well that was jarring after Ride Across the river (Dire Straits)
 very good picking......

The more I hear this, the more I love it!!!
SUPERB!!!

Is not this the one of the songs that KPIG Radio used to play as a space filler during commercials that they could not stream?

It could have been, but I think they used sounds of woods and winds, or some such, for the most part...boy that goes back years.
Something WAMU would play back in the day. Thanks Bill!

Wow, this takes me back a few...haha! Thank you, Bill.
Elementary!
God created Doc to pick with Godlike perfection because God probably wouldn't be able to keep up.
So smooth...
7 Quite likeable, but +1 because he was active for 59 years up to the age of 89
Long Live  Radio Paradise

RP and their listeners comments are some music nuggets waiting to be found !! Thanks so much !
What a gig ... Merlefest 2012 :  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=csP2YCLutzo
Looks like RP likes to pair this with Nick Drake.

Today it was
1.  Nick
2. Doc
Pretty good either way
Nice version. Only version I've heard until now was that of Tommy Emmanuel, so I was wondering who wrote this song. It appears to be John Loudermilk. But Chet Atkins recorded it.
Doc is one of my favorites!
Thank you RP for playing him.
RIP Doc.
Saw Doc and Merle at a concert on my birthday at Uni. I didn't know who they were but it was free. Lucky me.
Jorma! No...wait...um, never mind.

Gah! Now Doc is followed by...Nick Drake!  See comments below.

Bill,
Rather than a segue to Nick Drake, which I see you've done before, you might like this into Little Martha (Eddie Adcock has a killer version) or Beppe Gambetta's Shenandoah Mountain Breakdown, or his cover of Norman Blake's Church Street Blues, or maybe Greenhouse era Leo Kottke. Loving it here in the Blue Ridge. Thanks.

Blasphemy !

————————————-> Today the order is reverse : first Doc Watson and then Nick Drake :) Not really the best combination imho. Doc Watson brings a soft, positive mood and Nick Drake gives something melancholic and slow that brings the mood a bit down, which is unwelcoming after the uplifting effect of Doc Watson ...

Cool and Breezy here...but always love some Doc to say goodnight to...

Happy Birthday Doc, sure do miss hearing your guitar ring.

I've heard better pickers, more proficient classical guitarists, but DW has undeniable charm and a skill level way beyond the norm in his era.

This is good music.

Edit: Didn't mean to demean Doc Watson, but there are some truly gifted guitarists today, however, none of them will have the same impact that Chet and Doc did.

Exactly my thoughts. Us would be guitarists in 67 we're trying to master that riff. Never succeeded personally but this one is a good take on it

He was amazing to watch in concert with his Gallagher guitar,.. as it was to watch and listen to early Chet Atkins.

If you saw them I am in awe...oh what a delight...

Why don't they run this kind of tripe at 4AM when no one is listening anyways?

got a great idea, why don't you and that other idiot get together and kill each other off, make a good bluegrass tune.......just a thought.

Hi Dave,

I didn't notice any issues — the upright bass is more in the right channel.  My AKG K-501's sound fine.  :)

Neil

I agree with NeilB here, the bass is focused on the right channel, but I noticed no issues with my cans (Senn HD 518s).  {#Angel}

good chooise !!! :) Thanks

Rest in Peace 5/29/12

Great acoustic guitar set going here.  The perfect finish would be Leo Kottke (for me, anyway). You lurking, Bill?

Really good music.       and    no vocals!
RAAAAAAHHHHH!

I've never heard this track anywhere but from my own collection.  KUDOS!

Doc Watson - "Deep River Blues"- Live (1991)
"Doc pickin "Deep River Blues" in his beautiful Merle Travis influenced style."

"who says white guys cant play blues "

Leo Kottke  - "Deep River Blues" Live (1997)
From Sessions At West 54th Dec 1997.

Pleasant

Chet Atkins & Doc Watson - Live
"Absolutely incredible stuff. Wow."

The pride of Deep Gap, NC.  Nice!
One thing I really like about PR is the range - from Doc Watson through Talking Heads to Talvin Singh - all in the course of an hour or so.  Pretty cool, actually.

Wiki says: "At the age of nine, Mitchell contracted polio during a Canadian epidemic, but recovered after a stay in the hospital. It was during this time that she first became interested in singing."

It left her with some difficulties, such as tiring easily. It's one reason she does not tour extensively. I think it also contributes to the 'breathy' quality of her voice: some people can't stand it, but I like it.

Sheesh, you guys are sensitive. It was just a joke: obviously some of the finest musicians EVER just happen to be blind or otherwise handicapped. Hmmm, let's see: Ray Charles, Stevie Wonder, Doc Watson, Art Tatum, Jose Feliciano, Ronnie Milsap, (Blind) Lemon Jefferson, The (Blind) Boys of Alabama, Django Reinhart (missing fingers), Joni Mitchell and Itzak Perlman (polio), the list goes on and on.

If there was a way to trade my sight for their talent, it'd be an easy decision.

Peace,

  Joni Mitchell??

Well, Glockie, this is quite a turnaround for a guy who not long ago threatened to track down and kill those of us who called you out for referring to Nelly Furtado as a "gangsta ho". Way to evolve!

His finger picking style makes me think of Rev. Gary Davis....
This is such a fun song to play! AND to listen to!!
LOL! I just joined today and this station keeps blowing me away! Especially after I heard Doc Watson, what's next?

One of those songs where when you think back about it, there was so much of a story told you would have sworn that it'd had lyrics. Definitely high on the list of tracks for me here at RP.

hoping this is followed by some JORMA? PLEASE
GREAT! Having seen Doc twice, I've never seen a horn with him:) (the horn wasn't there)
Brilliant, beautiful, crisp, flawless guitar playing! What a joy to listen to this master. . . . . . . Had to do some work. Did someone add horns to this song at the end? Maybe it was the beginning of the next song. Work distracted me from paying close attention.
what else do you have up your sleeve bill? nice!
Superb.
