Funny, I have always loved having Dolby cranked up when I am driving, seems to work well with passing the time enjoyably, just sort of fits.  Roxy Music is on high my driving music list as well, which I guess kind of makes sense....

Bought this song on the original CD at the dollar store for a dollar. Among the surprises on it, are the guests including Jerry Garcia, Bob Weir, and Eddie Van Halen

Such an eclectic mix of sounds, noises, voices, tempos...it all adds up to a really good song in my opinion, from a pioneer in the electronic music genre.

This resembles that song by Midnight Oil. I forget the title, clue me in, it's about the native peoples. Beds are Burning? The Dead Heart? Can't pin the melody in my head, but Dolby is a clear descendant.

It's the disjointedness that catches my ear and interest. I like the mix of sampled sounds, including gourd and thunderstorm. A nice little touch of Irish in it, too.

It does sound a lot like Bruce Hornsby, but it's even closer to the theme song from Baywatch ("I'm Always Here"). Toward the end of this song are a couple of bars that are almost identical. No idea who was first.

There's some nice stuff happening in this piece—the fiddle, piano and harmonies—but some of the sound effects do grate on my ears.

LOVin' this.  Bouncing to the bass line, wriggling to the celtic instruments and singing to the chorus.  I never heard this before and I gotta get it.  Thanks RP for broadening and exciting my music experience!!!

The original album that this song came from is stellar.  Don't buy the retrospective - buy the original (Astronauts and Heretics).  Some really nice songs on there.  Amazon has it used for three bucks!  Be sure to click from RP!

One of my least favorite Dolby tunes, maybe because I'm from Louisiana. The whole Aliens ate my Buick recording is amazing, produced in part by George Clinton. As funky as anything you might want to hear.

Yes!  I remember when this album came out.  I was living in Lafayette, LA at the time and was struck by the lyrics referencing Opelousas, Louisiana police and the faint Cajun fiddle during the break.  Thomas Dolby "blinded me" with a really good song in "I Love You Goodbye."

He released some beautiful and classy tracks on par with this song during his 'Science' and 'Hyperactive' days, but they didn't get airplay, at least in North America as far as I know.  Check out 'The Flat Earth' and 'Screen Kiss', in particular, from The Flat Earth CD.  Also, 'Budapest By Blimp' is very good - I think that was on the Aliens Ate My Buick recording (?)

That's exactly what popped into my head...a boyband tune! Musically a fine song, perhaps a tad before it's time, much like TD's other work. Worth hearing again.

The Flat Earth was an absolutely brilliant CD. I kept waiting for him to do something in the same league as that again, but he never came close. This song is one of the disappointing ones.

I'm pretty sure it's "bowling" and the lyric sites agree. But whatever works for you And Pyro, I definitley agree about the Hornsby-esque piano. It occurred to me after I posted that Bruce could have done the song.
