Riding through the city on my bike all day
Cause the filth took away my license
It doesn't get me down and I feel O.K.
Cause the sights that I'm seeing are priceless

Everything seems to look as it should
But I wonder what goes on behind doors
A fella looking dapper, but he's sitting with a slapper
Then I see it's a pimp and his crack whore

You might laugh, you might frown
Walking 'round London town

Sun is in the sky, oh why, oh why
Would I wanna be anywhere else?
Sun is in the sky, oh why, oh why
Would I wanna be anywhere else?

When you look with your eyes
Everything seems nice
But if you look twice
You can see it's all lies

There was a little old lady who was walking down the road
She was struggling with bags from Tesco
There were people from the city having lunch in the park
I believe that it's called al fresco

When a kid came along to offer a hand
But before she had time to accept it
Hits her over the head, doesn't care if she's dead
Cause he's got all her jewelery and wallet

You might laugh, you might frown
Walking 'round London town

Sun is in the sky, oh why, oh why
Would I wanna be anywhere else?
Sun is in the sky, oh why, oh why
Would I wanna be anywhere else?

When you look with your eyes
Everything seems nice
But if you look twice
You can see it's all lies

Life, yeah that's city life, yeah that's city life, yeah that's city life
Life, yeah that's city life, yeah that's city life, yeah that's city life

Sun is in the sky, oh why, oh why
Would I wanna be anywhere else?
Sun is in the sky, oh why, oh why
Would I wanna be anywhere else?

Sun is in the sky, oh why, oh why
Would I wanna be anywhere else?

Spoilt little public schoolgirl, daughter of a famous english actor (who is one of these small people with attitude syndrome types) with ties to the music business who pretends she is from the street with her lyrics about crackwhores etc. Perlease !!

Please R.P don't play this crap again, there is nothing genuine or talented about this at all.

Nil points.

Fun and funny... the song's great!

Yup yup!

Awesome! Thanks RP!

I can understand the polarised responses to this. IMO if you don't know London (or Lahndahn, as the inhabitants would have it) this song will mean absolutely zip, and may well be seriously irritating. IIRC Lily Allen recorded a milder version of this with far more innocent lyrics which was released to the general public, and did very well in the pop charts.

You wouldn't catch me dissing Lily - her dad's a serious hard nut!

Sorry matey, I must repsectfully disagree, I live in London, and it's still seriously irritating {#Tongue-out}

She is just too adorable not to like, but she'd probably just get drunk and kick me. So this song is kinda like her, sounds cutesy, but really is kinda dark...

I lived in London for 6 years and I still think this is awful, childish and irritating drivel with terrible forced ryhmes.  Ok, I can divide it.  It's the music that is irritating and the lyrics that are just awful, childish drivel.

Could she sound any more adorable? Almost disgustingly so...
and yet, the very apparent english accent gives it an edge.
fantastic, a London set. Heather Nova, David Bowie, pretend chav Lily Allen,

oh why would I wanna be anywhere else?

I like this a lot more if her old man wasn't such ****!

Love it! God Bless the Queen -- we're still getting great music from across the pond!
Go ahead Bill, throw it in every now and then!
I get it. The rest of the album follows right along. It's great in the car really really loud.
Fascinating the polarized response to this. Yes, it's pop, but the great barbed lyrics make this very clever pop. It's also pretty unpretentious, unlike all the Britney-alikes and their kin. For us Brits it's in a direct line from the deliciously observed music that Ian Dury used to produce before he sadly left us. If you don't get it, I would have to question whether maybe it's because you're taking things a bit too seriously. Or maybe you just don't get the British sideways look at life.
dumb dumb c a n ' t h e l p t a p p i n g f o o t
Fun. Tongue-in-chic.

I really enjoy this, in large part for the trumpet parts. Are they sampled from something else? (My apologizes if this has already been discussed...)
They are sampled, from "Reggae Merengue", written by Tommy McCook.
I imagine this song isn't for everyone on RP (as evidenced by the rating of around 6), but I like it. Something about BritPop is so much better than the American pop out there. I'd much rather listen to Lily Allen than Britney Spears or someone like that. There's some humor in Lily's lyrics that makes it more enjoyable to me.
Awful. Simply awful. No redeeming qualities whatsoever. Sucko-barfo indeed.

Catchy pop is something I've always respected.

Ha ha! Spot on!
Not digging it!
Not quite right for a rainy, chilly day in Houston. Though it is cheering in a way.

Meh. I don't get why she's so adored. But it's tolerable.

What about the sax parts, Dave? I've seen this played live on the YouTube, so I think they're just making it sound sampled. There's lots more of the same kind of horn stuff on the rest of the album.
Yay, I was just wondering when we'd hear this one again. For what it is (catchy pop), it's good.
Happy sound....nice

Lovely, fluffy, harmless pop with a touch of depth to it. No need to look deeper folks. Don't think this piece is meant to be more.

This is my vote for most stupid comment on RP, ever. Why do people who know absolutely nothing about a topic feel that they should inflict their ignorance on everyone else? I don't mind people sharing different opinions, but this demonstration of know-nothingness just grates. /rant mode off
Now that I get used to...I start enjoying this song...
I saw this chick on SNL; she can barely sing. Does this mean RP is going to put Ashlee Simpson in the rotation?
The whole CD is pretty much like this, really odd though because (like this song) so poppy and upbeat with the rhythms, but if you actually hear the words she's saying/singing, she's just ripping on people left and right...sort of..and dare I use the word, 'ironic'

Catchy little summer song. Don't sweat it and you'll enjoy it. Good Pop?
cooote! i really like this entire CD...actually listened to it a lot this week because someone borrowed my ipod. alfie & smile are even more cute than this one. tesco's!!!
I think she's chewing gum while she's singing this one. Definitely not my favorite "fun song".

I find the lyrics to be shallow and vapid. Just kidding!! Not listening to 'em and I like the song just fine!

Yeah! Fun has it's merit, for sure!!
I'll stick with Jem.
So why am I thinking Katrina and the Waves? (That's not a good thing, by the way.)

Honestly, I used to like this song, but back to back with Louis makes me think twice...

Ths used to follow Skokian by Louis Armstrong. Now it appears it is following Savoy Blues. Both Satchmo tunes were preceded by Madeleine Peyroux. C'mon, get that "random" function going better, or plan the sets better?

Who cares, the song is fantastic! It's OK for music to be fun. I heard Lily Allen here first and was inspired to look her up. Overall, her stuff is not for me. I almost suggested it to my 13 year old neighbor, but upon a closer look at the lyrics, I decided it wasn't appropriate coming from an adult. Pretty soon she'll find it on her own.
Well.... It's not for you = you would not normally listen to it. You wanted to introduce to a child but realised it was not appropriate..... I think your intiution is telling you something. May I suggest you read between your own line EB3 :)

I hope this goes on and on this way, but I know Elivs must be lurking somewhere. Anyway, Bill, ya done good. *grin* ever since that sweet Jerry Garcia piece, which was on when I first turned in today. Yay!!

Everything she does sounds like an icecream van jingle. Somebody stop her! I BEG YOU!
Sounds a lot like that other song. Wonder if the whole album sounds the same. Not really diggin' it.
this sounds a lot like top 40 garbage
This has to be the happiest, bounciest, perkiest DARK song I've ever heard! That takes musical genius. I've always loved this song...

Sorry, I'm not getting this. I don't see why an underpriveleged brat couldn't have come up with the same lyrics. It's about what she sees as she bikes around London. It's funny. Lighten up on the class stuff.

"Filth" is a standard term for cops in London, particularly East London, hence her reference to having her driving licence taken away by The Filth.

OK, just for the sake of indecisiveness I would like to add... after seeing this a few times I have decided this really sucks. The girl has no real clue... little rich b%^ch and a privelaged back-ground really does shine through. This is how it comes across... she seems to be struggling for "hip" ideas to place in her label and decided on this little theme. Now she can be the star of the party with all her shallow little friends.
I know for a fact that everyboby down there in Oz is not as cranky as you. What does her background have to do with the music. If the music isn't your taste, fine, but I've heard every track on the disc, and she is talented, entertaining and just plain funny.

As someone who lived in the East End of Lahndahn Tahn for a couple of years and who absolutely loathes the city, I love the lyrics on this and its delicious irony, but it did get rather more airplay over here than is healthy and started to grate on me. Note that this is the 'x-rated' version of the song - a more 'vanilla' effort was what was usually played on Brit radio stations.

It may not be the most demanding or out of this world, or even that musically inclined songs. But man does it make you cheer up. :)
Heard it once, and it semi-infected my brain. Just heard it again, and now IT WON'T LEAVE! Thanks... I think.
