He was the hidden joker in this night in San Francisco.
Living in Spain I appreciate a bit of Flamenco....no matter where it comes from
Got my 2 tablespoons in my right hand, tchakatchaka, thinking of Mikala Jones, who died a sadly dead in the waves, his second home. From guys like him the world became a knowing of tubes and nature!

Paco de Lucia as well as the Gypsy Kings get played on RP regularly.
I've heard him with Billy Idol this year.
He made some silly solos with effects, but I enjoyed the virtuosity as a whole.
Great to watch and hear!
This is wonderful..
live to be taken on this powerful journey on the Sound of this music

I LOVE this track
What a great guitarist!
Lovely playing, numerous styles all rolled into one; infused with passion and intelligence.

This reminds me of Raúl Orellana. Didn't hear him on this awesome radiostation yet, maybe an idea?
Thanks, RP, for a channel where I can dip my musical toes into world music, which plays for me more and more.

PS, I always wonder how well-tuned a guitar is when all the tuning pegs are en face, like in this picture.
This is marvelous.

As for this.....Thank you Bill for this outstanding cut as I will not be popping for the other wise weak compilation but, this cut is A-OK.

Fantastic all the way through. Fun LA Woman to boot
excellente, very much enjoyed
Steve Stevens is the best!
Just when you think you know a guy... love this!
Slash has a similar incredible side that is as much of a pleasant surprise as this is. Thanks Bill!
I LOVE this!!!!!!!

Billy Idol's guitar player. Oh well, now he's rich enough he can do what he wants. Credible Jesse Cook-type stuff.

Actually, he's always done what he wants.  A master.

Well, there's a reason.  From AllMusic.com:

Conceived as a tribute to Taylor guitars, this recording manages to transcend any stereotypes of projects dedicated to the advancement of a business principle or product. That's due to the quality of the performers, the pieces they play, and the passion they bring to them. There's really not a misstep in the bunch. Guitar slingers from Russ Freeman to Leo Kottke, Steve Stevens and Billy Joe Walker are joined by singers such as Vince Gill, Kathy Mattea, Amy Grant and Joe Lynn Turner who eschew voice in favor of guitar. Of particular note is "Java Man" by Michael Hedges. This was the last recording Hedges made before his untimely death in an automobile accident, and Windham Hill founder William Ackerman speaks to his legacy in moving liner notes.

If you like acoustic guitar, get this album.  It was produced by Windham Hill in conjunction with Taylor for promo stuff.  Used copies are available.  There were volumes 2 and 3, too; this is volume 1.
Excellent choice Bill.
Holy product placement on that cover, Batman!
Oh, I thought this was Ottmar Liebert (whom I so enjoy).  Oh, no, it is the true master, Steve Stevens!!

The Steve Stevens on those great Billy Idol records, and of Black Light Syndrome (a King Crimson circa "Red" type of improvisational trio with Tony Levin and Terry Bozzio)

Also, "Steve Stevens" is an homage to "Sylvain Sylvain" of New York Dolls fame.
This has become one of my favorite  songs after listening to it on my iPod.   The guitar is outstanding.
There are spots in this song where you can sing she cried more more more.
Different but good!

Great song!

This style of music always brings out the guitar snobs. There seems to be some mystery  "pure" Flamenco we are all missing.

Reminds me a lot of Acoustic Alchemy (similar guitar style), which is nice to a point.

cool 2nd half of the song

Good idea. Maybe I'll post a couple to the LRC.

Hmm, I appreciate Steve's mastery, but he didn't really need this easy-listening pseudo-flamenco cr*p...
Saw him with Billy Idol back in the '80s...went to see him, not Mr. Idol.
more of this, PLEASE!!

Wow.
Sa WEET!
I love this song. The more I listen to it,the more I love it. It has so many good points in the song
Is it just me or is there a similarity to Al Stewart (when he was at his peak) ? Amazing Guitartistry!!!
I just bumped this up to a 10.  Un... believable.
OUT F@*K*#G STANDING!

Nice growly bass here. Like it?...Yes I do.
I just wiped drool from my shirt.

Great song. Incredible guitar! Is this really the Steve Stevens of Steve Stevens' Atomic Playboys, Billy Idol and Michael Jackson fame?

According to Wiki, he doesn't have one.

Saw a Billy Idol concert on Soundstage recently — I think it was recorded in 2007 or something like that.  Amazingly good.  Billy Idol looked and sounded better than I imagined, but Steve Stevens was just incredible.  Decided then to check out his solo stuff.  Glad to hear it here!

Sadhana (Sanskrit à€žà€Ÿà€§à€šà€®à¥, Hindi: à€žà€Ÿà€§à€šà€Ÿ) is a Hindi term for "a means of accomplishing something" or more specifically "spiritual practice".   It includes a variety of disciplines from Hindu and Buddhist traditions that are followed in order to achieve various spiritual or ritual objectives. The word is also used in the same connection within Sikhism.

This is pretty damn well done.
Very good. I can't believe I saw this guy play with Billy Idol way back in 1982...! He had a bit of a different style back then :-)

The only quibble I have with this type of music is that it is exactly the same as all other bands/performers who play this genre. I saw Strunz & Farah play in Toronto in the early 1990s, and have a couple of their CDs, and if you told me this was them, I'd have no way of telling it wasn't...

But it's good, nevertheless... :-)
Great. Bought it.   Thanks Bill!

Sure it is - in multiple volumes. It just isn't linked to the RP page, for some reason.

I have vols 1 and 2; imho Vol 2 is better although they're both great. Especially love "Ava's Eyes," Richie Sambora's love song to his daughter.

Wow, just wow
Excellent flavor!  The flamenco clapping reminds me of an Ojos de Brujo DVD I have - there's a group I'd love to hear on RP...
Great stuff.
Wow, surprised and impressed!
WHOA!

Steve Stevens is such an exciting guitarist.  I really enjoyed the stuff he did with Terry Bozzio and Tony Levin...great talent together.  Every time I hear his stuff I have to turn up the volume.  Let's hear more of him!

Cleansing the palate, I see, after GLBR.

I read that Stevens laid down his electric guitar, all the pedals and played only flamenco style for a long period. He also recorded and produced all of his "Flamenco A Go Go" album, writing all the music and playing nearly every instrument. The man can play.

Hey I just got a Taylor 914 C. Doesn't sound quite the same. Maybe if I lower the action and get lighter strings.....
Steve Stevens rips! Nuff said...

. Antonio Forcione would make mincemeat of this fellah and play his own percussion to it too.

This just in, Return to Forever on tour.
Hey, if I can put up with Led Zeppelin, you superflous (sic) listeners can put up with this.
You know what? All you posters saying this is superfluous are assholes! You can't even spell the "big" word you think you're using. this tune takes a break from the "traditional" aspects of the genre - repetetive ness and the same ending of the tune, and does it all different. It may be subtle but it's there. Non spelling cro-magnons would obviously miss it. Cheers!
Please stop..!!
Tho I agree this is a superflous knockoff, I gotta say the guitar technique is pretty good.
NOOOoooooooo

Ya know, I agree. I thought Ottmar Liebert was really cool 20 years ago. Then I saw him in concert. He was an ass. This kind of music was shit hot 20 years ago, now it's like MUTE BUTTON.

For sure, I prefer his ancient stuff... but this is very nice to be listened to (if my english is correct). If you, guys, do love this kind of music, go and listen to Antonio Forcione's "Alhambra"!!! THX, RP!

If I could really crank this, I'm sure it would be very good. At office-required volume levels, however, it sounds kind of Muzak to me. A trifle generic. Good guitar work, though. I wish he didn't steal my name. Twice.
LOL! Hey, more than twice, seeing as his surname is Stevens plural... ;-) Nice number, and wearing 'phones I can crank up the vol until my ears bleed and not bother my fellow drones, and can confirm that it's less muzak-like at higher volume. 7 from the Nottingham jury.

Yeah, I guess more Cook than Liebert. Stevens stands on his own, though. But this is a nice departure. For something completely different, check out Bozzio Levin Stevens. Their 2000 release, Situation Dangerous, is quite good with some serious Crimson undertones. Quite likeable, anyway.
