Works great for running.  Almost puts you in a trance.  Kept me going for miles.
I had good expectations but they were not fulfilled.
This is a very solid CD, front to back.  Weirdly soothing . . .{#Meditate}
Wow...who knew monks could rock it.

yup
OMG! Tibetan Buddhist downtempo trance musak -
just the thing for the next rave!
Gonna need a heapin' helpin' o' XTC & Special K to stand it though...

Sounds like pretty sophisticated instrumentation for a group of monks.
I thought we were listening to music on RP.

This makes me think some buddy of mine who hangs out with people who don't wear deodorant lent this disc to me months ago, and is now forcing me to listen to it, saying, "Killer, huh? Huh? Huh?" Really, really bad.
What is this shit Bill? A choir of caribbean salsa techno monks? It really sucks
This sounds like a tobacco auction.

Next !
I was worried I'd seem culturally insensitive for not liking this. I mean, I guess it's okay background music but it's kinda spineless. It reminds me of...there used to be a musical-comedy group called Corky and the Juice Pigs in Toronto. One of their five-second jokes was a commercial for "The Buddhist Monk Singers Present - Hit Songs of the 80s." Then the three guys would slip into dead-eyed monotone chant and say, "I'm your private dancer. Dancer for money. Do what you want me to do." End of joke. That's what this made me think of.
This song makes me wanna put my head in the blender

Then I realized it was what happens when obnoxious western beats and synth sounds destroy another culture. Isn't Tibet under enough threat already to usurp Buddhist religion and culture in such a debased way?
It's not Iraq, nobody held a gun to their heads to sing and mingle the juices of culture it's just fine an' dandy thank you!

Oh dear, not to your liking then. I love it, play it again and again Bill
The production hides the possibly interesting chants under a layer of generic electronica. Blah.

I prefer "Oh how money makes me Hum" R.I.P RAW
Now follow this up w/ some throat singing from Tuva. Add some bagpipes, an oompah band and a 'bitchen' guitar riff... Gitcher kultchur rite heah! Sorry- not doing it for me- either serve it up straight or leave it alone. And rock on w/ the damned funny name-game thing. Laughed out loud.
"My Spittle Flies To You" and lodges between your eyebrows on the album cover

Remember the scene in "Hot Shots Part Deux"? The monks are trying to impress that woman? I think there's a scene when they're doing this number.

Hey, as long as the monks are also working the kits, I got no problem. Puts the 'E' in Eclectic, that's for sure. Daniel_Pittenger wrote:

Just read through the last 10 post. I think we all agree that all recordings of this should be collected and shot into the sun.
annoying.

8:01 am - The Buddhist Monks of Sakya Tashi Ling - Secret Energy 7:57 am - Steve Stevens - Run Across Desert Sands 7:52 am - Gotan Project - La VigÃŒela 7:50 am - Ennio Morricone - Titoli Di Testa (The Good, The Bad & The Ugly)
Really great set.
I appreciate that this song is interesting. I'm enriched for having heard it. I just wish I didn't ever have to hear it again. :)
Not this BO GUS crap again. 1 1 1 1 1 1 1
My right hand has been amputated. Can you hear me clapping? And I just saw a tree fall in a forest on television, but the sound was off--or was it?

? Very gnomic and Zen... ;-)
Even the not listening to this is as important as the listening to. I chose the latter and am not let down. At first I thought those were some rappin' monk-dudes! The 11 beat is cool.
Really, really irritating - what an awful mix. I'm sure the monks chants on their own are soothing/moving/enlightening/ {delete as applicable} but mixed with an awful synth-pop overlay that reminds me of Jean Michel Jarre at his most tedious and pretentious, it's just plain dire. Next please!
In order to maintain the authenticity and purity of mantras, the monks recorded their meditation room in a 10 hour stretch. Relax and enjoy!"
I'm glad we weren't exposed to all 10 hours
Has a few good elements, but doesn't do much with them.
Oh good. Time for coffee.
I love this every single time I hear it....
Somehow strange .......... but interesting. Nothing for the whole day to listten to but now and then
This sound like Borat,at the faith healing church scene.
I like this...it's mellow and energizing at the same time.

Oh Man, you are so right!!! I can't listen to this without thinking of the 'Name Game' song!!! LMAO!!!!
"The Buddhist Monks of Sakya Tashi Ling were established in 1996 in Olivella, Spain, located in Barcelona province. Their purpose is "to transmit tranquillity & happiness" and to express "ethical & moral values" at a time which the society has entered "an increasingly aggressive dynamic", says Jamyang Tashi Dorie, the order's monastic leader. The monks "approach a young, worldly public" by fusing mantras with present musical tendencies, "a very important aspect" because the disc is meant to express Buddhist values on grander scale. The composers assure that each song develops a determined type of energy of mantra, recited mystical phrases that help the listener focus and calm the mind, protecting against the unproductive cycles of thought and action, whereas the music helps to establish a connection with this energy. In order to maintain the authenticity and purity of mantras, the monks recorded their meditation room in a 10 hour stretch. Relax and enjoy!"
common how'd this sneak into this set?
Uhm, I think we have heard this set before. Perhaps, this song could be dropped...although I loved the Ringo comment. PacificNWPariah wrote:

Ouch. A bit of a raw segue from Steve Stevens' nice guitar work.
Oh, Bill. That was a criminal offense, stomping on the end of Aja to start this one early. Pleeease don't do that again.
Actually, if you want to stomp on the end of Aja three or four minutes early, say, that'd be all right.
8:58 pm - The Buddhist Monks of Sakya Tashi Ling - Secret Energy 8:54 pm - Steve Stevens - Run Across Desert Sands 8:49 pm - Gotan Project - La VigÃŒela 8:47 pm - Ennio Morricone - Titoli Di Testa (The Good, The Bad & The Ugly) Where else would you get this kind of set, I ask you?
Woulda liked this set today. Always up for Morricone. And the monks are really growing on me. I like it.
I thought is was Ringo in the beginning there.
SOLD AMERICAN!!!!!!!!!!!!
This hit me the right way today. I'm bumping it up to a 7.
This station ROCKS! NO WHERE ELSE. BillG is the best, hands down.

Still thinking.....but it must be good vibes, so rock on!
