Driving home I see those flooded fields
How can people not know what beauty this is
I've taken it for granted my whole life
Since the day I was born

Clouds hang on these curves like me
And I kneel to the wheel
Of the fox confessor on splendid heels
And he shames me from my seat
And on my guilty feet
I follow him in retreat

What purpose in these deeds
Oh fox confessor please
Who married me to these orphaned blues
"It's not for you to know, but for you to weep and wonder
When the death of your civilization precedes you"

Will I ever see you again
Will there be no one above me to put my faith in
I flooded my sleeves as I drove home again

I used to think the same thing till I bought the album.   Turns out there's a lot more distracting things going on on that cover than what appears to be her big captain's hat of hair

Sounds sublime coming after High Violets. Truly an incredible stretch of music tonight — the last couple hours have kept me transfixed
I love love love this song, this album, and Neko Case!!!
This is the title song of the album.  ??

What's that continent done now?
Love Neko, but this song is totally flat. A 3.
You know how there's kind of a genre of music perfect for driving down lonely desert highways in the middle of the night?
Lots of Neko's stuff fits that - beautifully.

I say you give Europe a bad name.

Everybody in my church loves this beautiful and profound song...  sigh...

I first heard Neko on NPR when her Furnace Room album came out.  A true "Driveway Moment".  Immediately went out and bought the album...then all her other ones too.

Yeah, they're all men.

I loved her before I ever saw her or even knew how to pronounce her name properly.  I pronounced it like "necco".

I wish Neko wasnt also beautiful. That way I could love her for just her voice and believe that ugly people can still make it in the entertainment business, but alas gone are the days when musicians can get by on their ability alone. Thank goodness then for people like Neko who are amazingly talented and also easy on the eyes. Nothing Neko does is below an 8 for me.

FFS. I've never seen that abbreviation, but I like it.

It's good, though it's already taken by "facial feminization surgery". Could cause very odd misunderstandings.

Wow!  Well, I'd be happy to try and help her with her problems.

Yawn. {#Meditate}
I want to be a fox confessor. I think. I'm sure what all is involved.

So, why was this CD re-released with a different cover?  I plan to buy it...love everything I've heard by her on RP thus far.{#Clap}

It's the cover art for the bonus track. Just bought the album and put this image into the folder.

What a fantastic voice she has.  I might have to get that CD.

Thats odd. The same just happened right now. I LOVE NEKO, her voice is great (sounds like Linda Rhondstadt, Lyretta Lynn, and more). The guitars are great too!
Just a joke. No need for name calling. I gave this one a solid 8 and I own this CD (and her ACL DVD). GlimmerTwin wrote:

Brilliant follow to Hank Williams. You hit that note perfectly, Bill.
Thank you Music Man. Neko sure hits this out of the ball park...........
Bill, you're killin' me! From Hank Williams to Neko Case! How am I supposed to get anything done, when I'm completely enraptured? Ms. Case is the perfect follow on to Mr. Williams. Well played, sir!
ho hum
MUTE. So tired of hearing her on RP every cotton pickin day.
It's obvious that radioparadise loves Neko Case as much as I do because I hear it all the time!! Keep it coming!!
I'm in love...
When she sings "Will I ever see you again..." towards the end of this song, it simply melts me.

Just saw her last week here in Victoria with The New Pornographers. Amazing performance, do not miss!
Can't get enough Neko! Yeah!

Very impressive original artist. Where did she get the name for this track/album?
I read somewhere that she got it from a Ukrainian folk tale. I believe her ancestry is from the Ukraine.
She's totally out in left field but I REALLY adore her voice!!

Neko's talent just keeps growing. Absolutely awesome.

It's just WRONG that this CD isnt up for any Grammy awards.
Nico may eventually be up for a Grammy (as if she'd really want one), but for right now, the only way she'll ever get nominated is if she takes out "Fergie" and joins The Black Eyed Peas...
Beyond description.

let's consider the type of music up for grammy awards...Justin Timberlake...Carrie Underwood...etc. Would Neko really fit in with them?
this song is amazing.
This is more on the edge. I like it.
Neko is awesome.

Well put; excellent comparison.
why can't we just rate an entire CD 10? i want my RP mass update function now! zensend wrote:

Love this 'n' her too. Funny tho, I always get this Nancy Sinatra thing happening when I hear her
Aaahhhhhh....that voice! Can't get enough.
she's just great...
Anything by Neko Case starts at 7 and moves up.

I think a big reason this album is so good is due to the musicians on it... She nailed it.. With Garth Hudson and The Sadies, how can you go wrong? Personnel include: Neko Case (vocals, guitar, dulcimer); Kelly Hogan (vocals); Paul Rigby (guitar, loops); Joey Burns (acoustic guitar, cello); Howe Gelb, Brian Connelly (electric guitar); Jon Rauhouse (banjo); Garth Hudson (piano); Tom V. Ray (upright bass); John Convertino (drums); Rachel Flotard (background vocals); The Sadies.
Kelly Hogan is no slouch singer. She's amazing also! More reverb!!!

Okay, just today my iTunes bill just went up by about $20. Thanks, Bill!
Years ago I went to see Neko Case and Her Boyfriends open up for Blue Rodeo, and I had no time for them. Either she changed or I did... Such nicely arranged songs carried off with that huge, soaring voice...
Oh yes! Neko's voice = honey with a touch of spice. I too bought this CD, from Amazon (through the RP link) after hearing Neko for months here on RP. It was like a siren call... kept tugging me and bugging me and I could no longer resist! All her songs are so utterly unique and original - she sounds like no one else. GO NEKO! P.S. Hmm, this song played this morning (Oct 5) but it still says on this page that the last time played was Sept 26...
she's just so cool.

This cd is my first RP-influenced purchase - by paying attention to which songs stuck in my head after going home at the end of the day. I'd often have Neko songs lingering in my head. This particular song has grown on me, too.
Outstanding.
Not just a great song, a great CD. She's really growing as an artist, and refuses to be bound by any genre label.
I just wanted to be the first one to comment on Fox Confessor. Great song by her, as usual. Lyricaly rich and haunted by her voice. I've got a crush on Neko too!
I think Neko Case is my new favorite artist. Amazing stylist.
Haunting. Cryptic. Entrancing.
