All the sailors
With their seasick mamas
Hear the sirens on the shore,
Singin' songs
For pimps with tailors
Who charge ten dollars
At the door.
You can really
Learn a lot that way
It will change you
In the middle of the day.
Though your confidence
May be shattered,
It doesn't matter.
All the great explorers
Are now in granite laid,
Under white sheets
For the great unveiling
At the big parade.
You can really
Learn a lot that way
It will change you
In the middle of the day.
Though your confidence
May be shattered,
It doesn't matter.
All the bush league batters
Are left to die
On the diamond.
In the stands
The home crowd scatters
For the turnstiles,
For the turnstiles,
For the turnstiles.

We need to start a Replace the Lead Singer forum . . . .

{#Puke}
I usually like the Be Good Tanyas, so I left listening to the LRC ( Yes Bill some of us do listen)
to take a listen.
But this is awful
This is an abomination
I noticed the original Neal Young version was rejected from the uploads {#Yell}
I can't make sense of that.
Good Grief!

She is singing in English, isn't she?

Oh I got all excited, thought we were about to hear Treetop Flyer.
Once again........{#Puke}need I say more?

You can't go wrong with a Neil Young song....well maybe....if a bunch of whiny girls with stuff in their mouths sing one of his songs.{#Stop}
I find this chick's voice very annoying
Just got up. man did this ruin my morning!
This one I like, for some reason, even though she still sounds like a recovering stroke victim.
Bloody hell, are they going to ruin *every* song I like?
Even the album cover is marginal...
Typical RP Listener resopnse to this song:

"Hey nice little guitar work here...(looks up at playlist)...OH, 'The Be Good Tanyas'...expect unnaturally weird female vocals in T-5...4...3..."
Can't understand a bloody word. Or should I say: "caaaaaaaannnderstaaah aeh bluudywaaarrrhhh"
Nice music even if you don't like milady's voice. Personally I like.
Please Bill, no more bad tanyas...

All I've heard from the BGT's is this & "Light Enough to Travel"--and I HATE "Light Enough to Travel". This is better, but maybe less of a Neil fan wouldn't agree.

could it be? another fingernails down a blackboard track by the Be Good Tanyas?
For bonus points, this one desecrates a Neil Young song!

A big improvement if you ask me. Neil can write, but this sounds soooooo much better.
Good music, singer just tries wayyyy too hard to be "original" though. To each his/her own, it just always rubs me the wrong way. Harmonica is very amateur, but then again Neil never was exactly a virtuoso either.
I'm in the minority. I really like this. Love her voice.

Does Neil Young rate to "cover" Neil Young? I thought little was sacred about his music.

Buffy Saint-Marie called. She wants her annoying tremulous breathy voice back.
Buffy Sait-Marie? I was wondering if it was Dolly Parton. I'm giving it a 3 for now.
I have given more low grades to tunes on RP in the last few weeks than ever before. What's happening? Is Bill throwing in more duds, or am I just getting grumpy?
Strange histogram on this one....
Is she singing words? I mean, english words?
I keep hearing Can't Find My Way Home.

Music good. Voice, not so much.
She has some good moments... but, yea, as whole... not so much. Some enunciation would be nice, too. Song is nice, though.
First the Banjo Then she intro's in with her warbling catter walling Oohhhh my ears are bleeding!!!!!
Music good. Voice, not so much.
The more I hear them, the more I just LOVE them. Groovy, yet relaxing - the perfect cure for road rage, or a crappy day at the office.
They do a great version of Prince's When Doves Cry too! Talk about eclectic. But the, Prince is a big Joni Mitchell fan, so maybe he and Neil Young aren't that far removed.
Man, these ladies seem to strike a chord with me. I like 'em.
Awesome Cover, I like them more and more!!!

I agree with you, too!
If they took out the harmonica and the voices, then I'd rate it probably 7 or 8. But... for now its a solid 5

They butchered a Neil Young classic. Shame on you Be Good Tanyas.
Woo! It's The Be Good Tanyas wouldn't ya know?

She should use her voice more expressively, it seems to be stuck under her chin somewhere, this does not captivate me. I like the mellow feel of the song though!
damn, this sucks
great song, painful, affecting delivery. just like NEIL. a GREAT cover!

Damn, where's a sheep emoticon when you need one?
Dude, sheep aren't known for their emotion. Do what you need to do, but don't expect them to love you back.
The harmonica playing on this makes me cringe! I truly wish non-harmonica players wouldn't pick up the instrument and with a few minutes practice, record on a major release. It's an insult to REAL harmonica players everywhere.

Falsetto/vibratto on top of falsetto/vibratto? That would be a bit much. I like both seperately very much, though.
Damn, where's a sheep emoticon when you need one?
Interesting version but I do prefer neil's. Nonetheless, keep at it, always good to hear how others do things
Great song; painful, affected delivery. Sorry, but this is awful.
Woo!

Yeup. The severely overwrought vocal style pretty much kills it for me.
I find it intersting that when I tried uploading Neil's original version of this song, it was denied. Although this version is okay, I like Neil's better.
raise ya 5, see ya for !40! through the turnstiles!
15!
After years (and years) of loving Neil, I finally got a couple of the less worn discs (Tonights the Night and On the Beach). Wow! Points on this for simply covering it! And to Bill for playing it. Living With War speaks to me, and the Filmore release makes me giddy about the other archives to come from the vault...

its not bad... it just makes me want to hear the original more.
kinda hard to beat NY at this one. I miss the banjos. The vocalist sounds like she's trying a bit too hard to be different also.
Oh man, and this one started out SO COOL, too. The music was much more interesting than most of what I've heard from them, and it still is, but those freakin' vocals are still there.
