It's been too many mornings since the mornings in the sun
The day is neverending 'til the darkness begun
Hearing from the lightman's house upon 43
Sun is breaking dust along the rusty Rue de Lis

Now he's down the Rue de Lis
He's down the Rue de Lis
We walked him down the Rue de Lis last night

We heard he was a soldier from a muskateer time
Kept all his secrets guarded in wine
Never spend his money, not a nickel or a franc
Wouldn't trust his sister any more than the bank

Now he's down the Rue de Lis
He's down the Rue de Lis
We walked him down the Rue de Lis last night

After the procession no one dared to make a sound
Counted all his money and every note they found
Came written an inscription only his hand would have seen
I live my life like my brothers at sea

Down the Rue de Lis
They're down the Rue de Lis
We walked him down the Rue de Lis last night

Walk down the Rue die Lis
Down the Rue de Lis
We walked him down the Rue de Lis last night

Similar in some parts, but every early Dylan song employed pretty standard "folk" chord progression.
Got this CD from my boyfriend and was told I'd like it... got to track 5 and realized I'd already heard them here!  And he was right - I like it a lot.
this song is no longer acceptable for me (4 down to 2).  I'm definitely in the minority I see.
I don't know why, but I find it to be pretty cheesewheel.
Been a while since I listened to this one ... definitely {#Dancingbanana}
I still think they are singing "going down on Ruta Lee".  Say what you will ...
Funny, I heard this song in Starbucks a few months ago and, only totally being unable to spell Rue De Lis, kept me from downloading it that night. And voila, here it is...

They need a new drummer.

This song is good! First time hearing it! {#Dancingbanana}

Ah someone below said this sounded like Guster...they are right!  Now please play some Guster lol!  Lighting Rod would be GREAT.

Slow down Kittee, you're going to blow a fuse. There's lots more great music where this came from. And welcome.

Reminds me of the theme song for "The Littlest Hobo".

All these Neutral Milk Hotel bands. Can't even touch the original.

I don't know who did the arranging for this, but the string section resolves the chord in a very nice fashion. Usually I find strings to be a cliche (unless arranged by George Martin) but this is exceptional.
How could you possibly rate this same as previous song by JB?

Most definitely Simon & Garfunkel - to the point of plagiarism, do you think? wferrier wrote:

yikes. That's busy. I was thinking more along the lines of making some toast. I am so tired of this song by the way
It's Guster! No, it's early Guster!
Brings me home. Makes me feel genuinly warm. Thanks RP.

We spend a lot of enjoyable hours listening to RP. To me, this one is now an RP "standard" --- good tune, as they almost always are, and overplayed a bit, as they sometimes are. We just need to persuade Bill to rely on the depth of his library a bit more and quit hammering tunes like this one so much.
I disagree. I'm still getting a kick out of this one whenever I hear it.

Sounds like guster
This flows like warm maple syrup!
Has it been too many mornings since I have heard this song? I think not! Used to like it...
charming

I hear hints of Dylan's "Don't Think Twice, It's All Right". He does that repeating note and I wait for him to drop pitch, but it doesn't happen. Pretty good, though. Anyone else hear the similarity?
You know, after a few hearings I will have to agree.

Well golly there are only so many chords you can play with three fingers and no barre. Anyway, I like the song and have ordered the album. So there. Dave
Jesus this song has been kicking around my head for days. Hopefully hearing it again will get it out of there. Or drive it deeper.
The Essex Green? I thought BillG said: The F-16
Sounds like Fred Penner.

No offense but I shake my head everytime someone brings up The Decemberists. If you check the boards, it seems like every 2nd song is being compared to them. So I'm voting that we make it official and put a new scale at the top of each page: "Sound Like The Decemberists?" Scale 10 = better than The Decemberists 9= they are The Decemberists 8= I thought they were The Decemberists 7= could be mistaken for The Decemberists 6= wannabes 5= meh 4= pretty sure this is Suzanne Vega 3= can't be bothered to vote 2= I'd vote "1" but I'm too nice 1= not sure but I like it
That is too funny. By this scale, I have to give it a 10.

I love songs with the "train sound,"that rhythmic drumming that reminds me of riding on a train when I was a little girl.
Sounds like early Simon and Garfunkle to me...

hmmm.... the last few days, I've been humming this song while offline. I'll give it an 8

I think these guys are originally from Vermont. Yippie!
Neo-psychedelic pop? Is that what it is? I like it. Thanks RP - this band has four albums and I've never heard of them.
