You can run on for a long time
Run on for a long time
Run on for a long time
Sooner or later God'll cut you down
Sooner or later God'll cut you down

[Chorus]
Go tell that long tongue liar
Go and tell that midnight rider
Tell the rambler,
The gambler,
The back biter
Tell 'em that God's gonna cut 'em down
Tell 'em that God's gonna cut 'em down

Well my goodness gracious let me tell you the news
My head's been wet with the midnight dew
I've been down on bended knee talkin' to the man from Galilee
He spoke to me in the voice so sweet
I thought I heard the shuffle of the angel's feet
He called my name and my heart stood still
When he said, "John go do My will!"

[Chorus]

You can run on for a long time
Run on for a long time
Run on for a long time
Sooner or later God'll cut you down
Sooner or later God'll cut you down

Well you may throw your rock and hide your hand
Workin' in the dark against your fellow man
But as sure as God made black and white
What's down in the dark will be brought to the light

You can run on for a long time
Run on for a long time
Run on for a long time
Sooner or later God'll cut you down
Sooner or later God'll cut you down

[Chorus]

Tell 'em that God's gonna cut you down

Lord whatta lotta thumpin'!
John Bonham all over it..
This excellent mashup brings to mind how similar DJ mashups are to fusion cuisine - the fact that this works really well highlights how taking the best parts of various good things and combining them usually results in something that is less than the sum of its parts.

Of course, if you have synesthesia, you already knew that.

You can hear Ted at the beginning of the song. Just a few riffs. Before Mr. Cash starts singing and then after every sentence of the first few lyrics and periodically throughout the song!

No argument that it's FUN - Yet appreciate the irony at play here - often when I do go out, the earlier quoted baby-eating nonsense is what my Qanon-obsessed neighbor usually spews over the cinderblock wall.

That said, he's been delightfully quiet lately now his orange Waifu and half the entourage got one foot in the slammer.

So if you think I like this song for all the wrong reasons, peace be with you.
Downloaded his Essential tracks full of gems like this from his website for free, then donated to him later. https://djschmolli.com/the-ess... So fun!

Hello folks! I know I'm a bit late on this one but if a listener didn't tell me about radioparadise and that they're playing my mashup I probably wouldn't know about all of this. So first of thanx for the play! I know it's pretty difficult to produce mashups that everybody likes, especially when there are so many famous tunes in it like in this case. So here's the full sample list in case you didn't recognise all the elements used: Johnny Cash - God's Gonna Cut You Down (vocals) Led Zeppelin - When The Levee Breaks (drums) Beastie Boys - Sabotage (bass) Ted Nugent - Cat Scratch Fever (guitar) The Beatles - Come Together (lead guitar) Alright people thanx for the comments too! wandersahn wrote:

Well, not all of them... but I am a musician for 15 years now and it helps to put out some good mashup cause if you know about harmonice & chords it's much easier to make the seperate elements fit like a glove ;-) plaid wrote: WOW thanx! hobbitt wrote: Haha, mashup artist hear that quite often noyou wrote: Well thanx Tom for uploading, appreciate it! LOVE IT! THANK YOU!

Nice transfer after When the Levee Breaks from Led Zeppelin!
I believe it's 'what's DONE in the dark', not, 'what's DOWN in the dark'.

Good point. I was listening to this rather quietly. I just followed your advice and you are correct. Blasting is much better.  : )

Go back to sleep, zippy!
This is a great mash-up!  Love Johnny Cash's voice & the Led Zeppelin bit fab.  Hits the right buttons for me...if not for everyone else
I can't bear Johnny Cash but this mashup is fun!
Usually hate these mashups but this ones works, somehow.
Why are you doing this to my ears, RP? Why? Can I get my cheque back?

Given the Kleptones have been (have they?) silent for so long, this is welcome to hear on RP.
How have I not bothered to rate this before? Kind of the introduction to mash-ups for these old ears, and it totally works. I think both JCs would be pleased with the result.
Blast the shit out of them loudspeakers.
Johnny Cash fronting Led Zep!

Tough to find Nugent, yes. But I hear the first three guitar chords of Cat Scratch Fever.
Sampling When the Levee Breaks...how original. The Beasties did it better. I usually like JC but someone mentioned religious drivel and that was spot on.  Pretty boring tune overall. Please someone post the middle finger my way. I would consider it an honor.
Sounds like When the Levee Breaks by Led Zeppelin
If Johnny Cash sound like this in rock....

I would say a classic definition of a "schizophrenic song"
Just awful. The man in black deserves better than this douchebag treatment
Wow, that was different. Wasn't sure at first, but grew on me. Cool.
Superb 😎
Cash, Beastie, Beatles, Zep.  Nice Combo.

Throw in some DJ Z-Trip one of the first Mash up artists

This is brilliant! Never heard it before, still trying to get the earworms out of my head...
Dreadful mess, beautifully rescued today by the Sneaker Pimps.  Nice work, RP.
Let's listen... Led Zep on drums, Beasties on rhythm guitar, Beatles on lead guitars, ah, song ended, –have to wait for next listen to pick out more!
Cash + Zep + Beatles = Blew my mind.

Should have been used in Preacher.
Never liked mashups, this doesn't really change my opinion.
The song is Run on for a Long Time. An old Folk Spiritual recorded by many. Here's a good version https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gDOMtOFaCys
Combines three things that I think are great into one thing I find merely ok.
Wow, I totally thought this was the Beastie Boys, "Rhymin' and Stealin" when it first started!   I knew I'd heard that drum beat before...

where can I purchase/find this track?

Ironically the lyrics are very appropriate for Nugent's "yuge" icon and savior of the free world... Nuff' said.

It's older than Johnny Cash--it's a traditional song that a lot of artists have covered and sampled.

Moby sampled the version by Bill Landford And The Landfordaires for "Play."

Mix of Johnny Cash, Led Zeppelin drum-set and The Beatles.
From craftsmanship point of view, nice.
Have mixed feelings of the mix, as a whole.

Nope. Love all of the songs in their own element, but not mashed up. Gives me anxiety.

This is an 8 for me, just because I'm loving the interesting mash-up.  At first I thought it was just a cool new artist, and then wow all these songs came through (Cash, Beatles, Led Zep, heck I'm even hearing the Beastie Boys samples in this!)

And I agree with a previous poster...this does seem to be the best mash-up track I've heard yet.

  that ain't no bonzo on them drums.. {#Drummer}

What a unique and catchy mash up. Please play this track more often.
Best mash up track ever
God's Gonna Cut You Down after Moby's Natural Blues? That sounds very familliar to those who over-Played ;-)

Poor Johnny Cash...

While I like JC's version of the song, I'm annoyed because I got all happy thinking I was going to hear When The Levee Breaks (though it sounded a bit overly processed bass-wise), and instead I got a DJ mix. It's a smart mix, don't get me wrong, I mean with splashes of Ted Nugent and The Beatles, but again, I was just bummed not to hear LZ.

Hurt could be the best cover in the history of music!  Much better than the original!

I like some of the mixed elements (Beatles in particular), but the main stack (Cash + Guitar) just doesn't blend together well... There's no interplay, and it ends up ruining the clarity of Cash's singing.

On a related note, I once heard a singer move seamlessly from the Rocky Road to Dublin into Ring of Fire....

Yep, this is a delightfully irreverent 'cover' of the Cash song, which takes the gentle piss out of Cash's po-faced piety.
Not good to my ear, sorry.
This song is so everything it's nothing.  At least Oasis was smart about ripping off other artists
C'mon!

This is truly incredible!! This mixes drums from Zeppelin, guitar from Ted Nugent, lyrics from Johnny Cash, a sgue from the Beatles...

I got really into Mash-ups after hearing this song and a few others around. It's incredible how songs from such different genres can be combined into something totally new.

Like this (Billy Joel vs Jay-Z) : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fgB-Ld0mnjU

who knew Billy Joel was such a bad-ass rapper?
LOVE this

"Ain't gonna let nobody lordy turn me round," fits too, incidentally
Anyone arguing that this isn't original art is just plain wrong.

The argument that using a sample is stealing, is similar to arguing that a song was stolen from Neil Young because it has a G --> Dm chord change in it...

I guess Warhol was just a hack afterall...

(posting tired & cranky...  forgive me {#Taped-shut})

Well, you would have to buy the Monet, not steal it, unless you want to be charged with grand larceny.  Anyhow, it's been done already.

I thought it was quite tasty. And the fellow who slammed JC... Really?
 old_shep wrote:

Well, the better analogy would be that you would take the image of a Monet, modify it with either clip art (could be imaginative) or your own art (far better), and create something new. No one would argue--some would, but I wouldn't--that what you had created was your own work of art. Beardon, Rauschenberg, Arp and other collagists did this as a matter of course without too much worry.

PM me a link to what you come up with. {#Smile}
ok, use a sample here and there and add something to it... here, nothing added, just mashed

I don't see how this song could lose. It combined a bunch of great artists and songs. That's like an eight way win!!
Hmmm.....
Interesting. After the surprise (at first), followed by deep anger and resentment that it was not going to be LZ, it grew on me.
Very creative - expansion of thought and sound!!  {#Cheers}

God's gonna cut YOU down for making such awful noise. Every time I hear this, run screaming from the speakers.
Hmm I'm all over the map on this one.  I love a clever well-executed maship, but I'm not sure yet whether I think this one is either of those things.  I think I'm initially turned off by using "Levee" as the drums, which is the evil opposite of an interesting choice.  The editing and mix of the various pieces is reasonable, I've certainly heard worse....  I think I've been spoiled by lots of Kleptones.  I'm going with 5.
Kinda cute but.... no.  It don't work.

I'd really like to meet you, because I think this is a spectacularly creative mash.  We'd have lots to talk about.
Love it. This made my morning. More please.
Why so much hate for this song?  Considering that LZ's "When the Levee Breaks" was itself a creative appropriation of an old blues standard, it seems DJ Schmolli is just taking part in music's ongoing evolution.  Like it or not, adaptation has and always will be a musical tradition.
I say right on, and turn it up!

"Melodic" and "Catchy"...are two adjectives that don't exist when this tune is being heard. Now...."Cheap" and "Unoriginal"...now we're talkin' folks. Perhaps this is a novelty with all the samples...but "Nahhhh...I'll take a pass!"
Can't even hope to meet the original. And the Beatles transition is misplaced.
