I have a sequin for an eye
Pick a rose and hide my face
This is the bandit's life
It comes and goes and them's the breaks
Under a molten sky
Beyond the road
We lie in wait
You think they know us now?
Wait 'til the stars come out
You see that

Well, I made you and now I take you back
It's too late but today I can define the lack
I made you and now I take you back

Sun, you sleep in clouds of fire
That's all and that's right
My sun, you sleep in clouds of fire
That's all and that's right

I can still feel it when you lie
Pick a rose just to hide my face
Well, if there's something I should know
I seek no science when there is no shape
Under a molten sky
Let the days collide

Well, I made you and now I take you back

Sun, you sleep in clouds of fire
That's all and that's right
My sun, you sleep in clouds of fire
That's all and that's right

What is he saying?

I rarely bother with negative ratings, but I just can't stand this tune.  It sounds like something from the late 70s, yet not engaging in any way.

My head only bobs sideways to Interpol.  Blah blah yadda yadda

I assume you mean Frankenstein's Monster.  {#Angel}  Unless you mean the mad scientist himself... which I guess works too.

I think he was referring to Kevin Frankenstein, who was a gandy dancer from Piscataway.
A segue based solely on album covers?

First....Elvis Costello with elephants and now this.
I'm on to you William!!!!!

This site can be really bad for people in procrastinatory moods (yes, I made up the adjective.  Grammar police back off).

Good tune.
This song deserves better grade.

If I had to listen to a full album all the way through with this singer, I'd turn into Frankenstein. Is it a style or a way of concealing a lack of talent?

"Concealing a lack of talent" would, in itself, be a talent, but I don't think that's what's going on here - it is a certain style.  Your dislike of someone's work does not mean that they lack talent.

Now all I can see is Herman Munster doing a slow hip shake.     {#Lol}    An 8 for me, but the new record is not very good.

i like dirges at night.
Use the horns...maybe they'll get the point?!
A monstrous song

Good alliteration though.

I really like Rest My Chemistry, but this track does nothing for me after additional listens.

If this album is the worst, then I'll definitely have to check out their previous stuff.

I really love this, a little more each time. Just put it on the wish list.

I hear a little bit of Air Borne Toxic Event and Elbow.

Strangely compelling.  Not sure I really like it but compelling.

Great song from a great album. 'Rest my chemistry' is my favorite though.
"Rosemary"?  Please?
Dont know nothing bout Interpol,
but this song is OUTSTANDING{#Motor}

He has no taste. If I puked as much as he did, my tongue would be a worn out rag as well.

It's a wonder he can even talk.

But of course we all know that's not the case.

NOT their best..............

Interpol can be as great as you want.

But for this song I agree with Excelsior. A 4, maximum

Depressing dirge.

I don't like the way this one drags on without any direction.  When I first ripped this CD, it got mangled in a way so that it gets cut off in the middle and proceeds directly to the next track.  I like it that way.

Im not so sure that I agree they are like Joy Division... but both ARE great bands...

The secrets' out! The band monitors the comments and has DELIBERATELY! gone out of their way to hack you off! Go Interpol Go.

Why does this remind me of the Doors?
The Doors were many things to many people - from annoying and overrated to genius. But most would agree that the one thing they were not was boring. This band bores with every note they play.

6.5 now. It worked after all!
Big fan of the first two albums, so I got this one when it came out and just didn't like it as much. But thankfully Bill keeps it in rotation, and dang I'm starting to get it. Radiohead is similar - got to let it brew a bit.
this song sounds like a zombie sock hop. >_> i love it.

Damn you iTunes...you suck the money right out of my wallet!
Oh oh, another iPod purchase coming on 9

Yes, there is no i in threesome. that should be on RP playlist too.
There's no I in threesome.
For some reason that looks like an odd three-way on the cover... I think I'm in a weird mood...
Interpol songs all seem to have the same exact sound but....... But for some reason I really like that sound. I wouldn't want to listen to a whole cd but on RP it sounds very good.

mammoth is the song on this cd. thats what makes the cd for me anyway. its a nice rant about a divorce. the rest of the cd is throw away compared to the first 2.
Now for me, Mammoth is maybe my least favorite song, but it depends on my mood. Sometimes I like the unrelenting, pounding, guitar assault, and sometimes I just have to run screaming from the room. I don't agree the rest is throw away. I like it all, some more, some less. Extra points for being adventurous on the last two songs, Wrecking Ball and Lighthouse, that are beautiful and different than their usual sound.

I'm still in the group that prefers the older material. To me, this album seems watered-down by comparison. They've lost their edge.
ok. that's enough of that. let's play good music again.

This album was not quite the thing I expected from Interpol after Antics. It took me a long time and a dozen listens to reconcile with it. But it's still growing. What do others think? Same impression? "The Scale" is a 7 IMO, at least in comparison with the opener "Pioneer to the Falls" which I would give a 9.
I agree they're exploring new directions - I like to see them growing, and I like the results. To me they still have the same overall, instantly recognizable, sound, though. I liked the album right away, but agree it's a "grower" - my love continues to admire the more I listen. Yes, compared to others on the album, 7 sounds about right for this one. Or 7 1/2. I like it, but not my favorite. I've got the great "Pioneer to the Falls" reviewing on LRC, so am hoping it gets added.
