I try to breathe... I try to think of you
I don't know if trying will do
The silence
A mirror
That breaks the light in two

Come to me...and with violence
We'll discover what will make us free
accelerate...we'll try to stand
Where no one dared to be
We're climbing high, we'll fly away
We're fearless indeed
When time stands still...
A moment lasts... Approaching lightspeed

We're climbing high, we'll fly away
We're here to move...we'll move to stay
When time stands still...a moment lasts
We're moving on...we're flying fast
Approaching lightspeed

Depeche Mode originated in 1977, then released their first CD in 1981.  Wolfsheim released theirs in 1992 with the first single released in 1991.  That said, Wolfsheim became a band in 1987.  Depeche Mode has the jump.... this according to the wonderful world of Wikipedia.

This is exactly what I keep hearing too!  I really have a soft spot for silly electropop like this.

Sounds like Tracy Chapman went all techno.

who cares when ANY song was written!? u either like it or you don't... whether it sounds like it's from a period you either like or dislike. if your opinion is based by the year it was recorded, but that year doesn't fit correctly that "sound" era, then you are just confused and therefore should refrain from sharing it

interesting that you call this sound "reinvented." i'd like to hear an explanation of exactly how this shows any musical growth from what was being created in the eighties. there is no reinvention or evolution here, just a mimicry of was done 20+ years ago. everybody recognizes the impact of kraftwerk and depeche mode and other electronic pioneers of the late 70s and early 80s. it has been done - long ago. it's time to move on. let's hear something that builds on that foundation and brings something fresh and inventive.

There isn't much about this song that is interesting.

You might want to check your facts. I think you will find that Depeche Mode were around a good few years before these guys. Regardless, this is very listenable....is that a word ?

well ... goog song, but for sure not the best one on the album! ;-)

This song sounds 25 years old but it came out in 2003?!

I've been into this kind of music since the early 80s. The "alternative" electronica scene such as industrial, synthpop, darkwave, EBM and much more is hugely underrated and presents some of the most interesting acts today. Myspace has vast amounts of unsigned or independet bands in these genres. But most people still regard this kind of music as inferior to that played on traditional instruments. Personally I've been playing the drums in various bands and am now producing industrial. I can assure any doubting Thomas'es that creating good quality electronica is equally demanding as playing a "real" instrument.

I have absolutely no interest in purchasing any of the last six artists - since the Who - they just don't float my boat.

Go watch the movie "Before The Music Dies". Highly recommended!

... oh and Wolfsheim gets an 8.

at least this is like a perfected form of horrible 80s music.
This sounds like it wants to be bad 80s music. I mean, I can forgive bands from the 80s for being bad — that was their job, and fools liked it. But isn't hindsight 20/20? And don't we humans learn from our mistakes?

I like this kind of melodic synth pop. Reminds me of Erasure and Yaz. Good stuff.

To me, this sounds like something from the 80's.  Yes, very Kraftwerk-ish in form and sound, but not quite as gritty as the original.  And there are traces of the early Depeche Mode sound too.  Overall a nice bouncy song to brighten up an otherwise drab rainy morning.  Thanks again RP for mixing it up.

Strong echoes of Depeche Mode and Kraftwerk, which is handy as I'm a big fan of both. Nice stuff. 7 from the Nottingham jury.
I really enjoy Wolfsheim. They are German (and probably quite familiar with their older countrymen, Kraftwerk). They have been around since the early 90s, so Depeche Mode does pre-date them. But I wouldn't be so quick to call them a paler version or a rip off of the band. Their cound is calculated to sound that way and if you liked it a bit, I suggest you try their album "Spectators" which is excellent. I like their tempo and blend of electronica that avoids the hyper tempo and vocal distortions that are tired in that genre.

i think these guys were hoping everybody forgot about (or were too young to remember) the existence of depeche mode

I rarely drop in and comment on a tune, but something about this song hooked me. So, I logged on, added my rating, and put this on my own personal list of tunes I need to put on the trusty iPod. Thanks RP for always playing stuff I've not yet been exposed to...as well as all the other stuff I love. Anton S/V Meridian Beaufort, SC

I hear 'ya. RP's put my budget out of whack. Love it, though. Opened my ears to new sounds. Also enjoy the intelligence of the posters (well, MOST of them) here; I learn things about artists I would have never known.

Sounds fine, but pretty anonymous, it blends in with the rest of the modern crowd of EBM bands like Assemblage, Apoptygma, Mesh or any other name. Fun to hear them played on RP though. :)

yep, sure, me big fan. but wolfsheim's synthesizer part sounds a bit cheap. I'd better stick with the original.
Is this some sorta light version of Depeche Mode?
more songs from wolfsheim should be played here. they are really successful.

I'm amazed to hear Wolfsheim on RP. It's one of a variety of electro-pop groups I loved in the late 90s/early 2000s. If you liked this, check out material from their 1999 album "Spectators" which I remember as being their "big hit".

Heck yes... riding across bare desert in Namibia, a hundred miles from the nearest village, in my Datsun 1600 in 1978 with my then-girlfriend, listening to Kraftwerk's "Autobahn" playing on a red bucket speaker... Them wuz what them wuz. And yes, Wofsheim is very like early Kraftwerk, but more approachable.
