Once there was a time I'd rob my mama
For a good meal and a smoke
Once there was a time I'd sell my brother
For a dollar when I was broke

But I'd never sell my guitar
And my strings were always sharp
'Cause if I don't have a guitar
I'll be strumming on some angels harp

And if I don't get to heaven
And I go down there below
Better be a guitar when I get there
Or, I will refuse to go

Once there was a time I was hungry
And I'd find my food in some bin
But I'd never, never sell my guitar
'Cause that would, darling, that would be a sin

There was that wonderful goofy time in the 1970s when me and my friends would have arguments about the best guitar players: Hendrix, Page, Clapton, Allman, Steve Howe, Rory Gallagher, Jerry Garcia, Santana, etc.

Alvin Lee's name would come up.

Warren Haynes' and Derek Trucks' names would surely come up today in that group.

Bill & Rebecca, it is baffling that we don't hear any Gov't Mule on RP.

I resemble that remark....

This album is a 10 all the way through!
LOVE Ten Years After, and especially Alvin Lee..  Didn't know he just passed away this month..  so sorry to hear.  My favorite song:  "Going Through The Door."  I guess he's gone through another door now.

Another great musician, English rock guitarist and singer, who left us unexpectedly today, at 68 years of age. Good memories we have of him and his Band "Ten Years After". Alvin Graham Barnes began very early to play guitar at 13 years old, a lifetime dedicated to music. R.I.P.

In addition to many other songs, I like the song "The Bluest Blues", even though this song has never been played here, with only one vote (mine), a deserved footnote 9.

The opening track to a stellar release! Love this album as much today as the day I first brought it home and slapped it on my turntable.

The whole album should be heard !

One of my all-time great concert memories is seeing TYA together on the bill with John Mayall and the Bluesbreakers in So Cal when I was in high school.  I stood on my stadium chair and jumped up and down during "Going Home" so hard that it broke!

And that's my geezer moment for the day.....

Why comment if Bill is never going to play such a great song.

Once there was a time, I'd kill my brother, if only poor Bill would play this song.

Once there was a time, I'd rob my mother, if only Bill didn't get it all wrong.

Oh, well, not like anyone's listening  anyway!

Bout Friggin Time!
Wow, this is Ten Years After? Nice.
I remember these boys when they were here in Nashville back in The Day, playing at one fo the dives along Printer's Alley.  Great old-timey rock and writhe action.
OMG ... I can't believe I'm now so old that I wore out the 8 track I had of this album 40 years ago.  {#Sad}  But I still like the tunes immensely .... takes me back to university.

Need more TYA. {#Yes}
I had this LP back in the 70's...Loved it then and now... Album radio is not dead it lives here on RP
Long time no hear.  cool  Thanks
