sheesh, rough crowd here!! When Loreena McKennitt re-invents her sound (for every album) she's praised, but when Alanis does it, she gets no love at all!! Certainly a change for Alanis...but c'mon - still WAY more mature than her early stuff!! Anyone remember her first pop album? This rises WAY above!!

Can't get past her whiny vocal tone. I don't care how much of a departure it is for her. Her voice is less enjoyable than a razor blade on frosted glass.

Yikes...seems that Alanis and this song really strikes a nerve. I really like the building tension of her songs. The Canadian part is ok too.

3 for the song, and a bonus point for being Canadian, gorgeous, and wacky. Nothing could ever top Jagged Little Pill. The live version of this track would almost certainly be better; this version seems over-produced. I want to see her shaggy lead guitarist ripping into his music like an over-caffeinated pitbull (click here)... not some Paula Abdul or Michael Jackson number.

I like Alanis, but this really sucks.

I think what really kills it is the production. It's so perfectly polished that each part loses it character. It ends up goulash. I also think she's borrowed a little too much from her time in India. Works for Loreena McKennitt, not for her.

Really? This is Alanis? Seems very different to me. The comparisons to Bond music seem very apt. This is a side of her I didn't know about but I actually like it.

Whew! The playlist was about 30 seconds ahead of the song so I had a chance to switch to the LRC. Thanks for that consideration; it saved me some pain.

Met her at a an MCA gathering in 1992 for the "Alanis" release. A little bar across from Mewatta Stadium in Calgary. She was 17 I think, about to turn 18. Prior to introductions, the music rep threatened to kill me if I looked sideways at her. I wondered why until I saw her. I remember feeling an incredible sense that this person was a great deal older than the vessel in which she was contained. She has great eyes. It gets a 9 from me for those eyes.

You know, I just don't like her or this sound to begin with, but it sure seems like a jarring departure from the rest of the stuff on RP. RP is very eclectic to be sure, but there's still a general RP sound and this one doesn't go with it.

Not much of an Alanis fan...never have been. However, I am willing to be open minded about this new body of work and at least give it a listen before I cast it into the hallows of h-e-double hockey sticks. This one rates a 6 so far.
