Its that one man band again with the crap singer
I'm always amazed at the time and energy Bill puts into these sets. I've always been fairly meh about Coldplay, but never really cared enough to ask myself why. Lots of people like 'em and they're fairly listenable, so what's the harm?
Coming behind Patty Griffin's gripping Long Ride Home and the artfully angsty but somewhat less sincere Little Bird by the Weepies, this song is revealed (to my ears) as a very commercial construction churned out for a calculated manipulation of an unsuspecting listener's emotional receptors. Having just enjoyed a filet mignon and a nice hamburger, this dried up piece of jerky just doesn't do anything for my palette.
Maybe that particular progression wasn't intended, but it sure worked in that fashion for me. Your results may vary. I'm going to wait for a different context before I commit to a rating.
Apologies to Coldplay aficionados, I'll keep listening to try to figure out what all the fuss is about.

I consider Coldplay one of my favorite bands, but if all their music sounded like their singles, I would probably hate them too.
I never need to hear Yellow, In My Place, The Scientist, or Fix You. All very simple, commercial, mediocre songs. What the world knows of Coldplay is the product of a brilliant A&R person who somehow picked songs that would become insanely popular, but in my opinion are their weakest stuff.
Another reason why I adore RP is that they play the "deep cuts" like Cemetaries of London, High Speed (!!!), Green Eyes (my wedding song) and the unreleased version of Talk, that is vastly superior to the album/single version. Songs like these are why I love this band. There are some additional B-Sides and EP tracks that I'm going to try to upload that will show that these guys really can rock, and have some serious song-writing chops. These guys really do have tremenous talent, but their more creative stuff takes a back seat to radio-friendly music that appeals to both teens and the adult-alternative easy listening crowd.
That all said, don't even get me started on their concerts. If you like 85 minute shows with costumes, lighting, pre-recorded instruments, and hearing every single the band ever released, you will love Coldplay in concert.

Damn, can't stand Coldplay anymore! Boring voice. Their first album started out good but soon got boring. Since than I can't stand the music. Please skip next time!
This is my favorite album of year even if they did rip off Steve Vai. This album does not grow old on me. In fact, Coldplay is now in one of my top ten favorite bands. If you buy one CD for a friend or relative for Christmas, let it be this album.
Marley, I have the same issues with Elvis Costello.....
And it has taken me a looong time to warm up to Radiohead.
Funny, I find the earlier Coldplay material quite accessible and enjoyable, perhaps a tad boring after repeated play.

The last time I listened to a ClearChannel Modern Rock station I heard Coldplay X&Y cuts every hour on the hour. Is that "lately" enough?
And my complaint was more to their "formulaism" (if that's even a real word) than it was to their "corporatism" (which I don't think literally means the same thing as the idea I'm hoping to convey).

Any song that I'm playing at a low volume level at work that makes me reach down, turn up the volume, and then look to see who it's by is a pretty good song. While it's not earthshatteringly groundbreaking, I like it and was surprised to find that it is by Coldplay.
Saw them in Budapest earlier this week - fantastic.
Stunning lyrics and arrangement.

The more I listen to VlVoDaAHF, the more it sounds like the closest a band can come to making a U2 album without actually being U2.
I got the album for Father's Day, and this piece jumped out and really grabbed me by the ears. The arrangement is positively goose-pimply, and the lyrics sound like they could be 300 years old—and written yesterday, all at the same time:

I am suffering from Coldplay burnout. Small doses please. Every radio station in the world is jamming this album down my throat.
I've been a bit on the fence about this album before this song... but I actually enjoyed this one. 7
