It's a blue, bright blue Saturday, hey hey
And the pain has started to slip away, hey hey
I'm in a backless dress on a pastel ward that's shining
I think that I want you still, but it may be pills at work

Do you really wanna know how I was dancing on the floor?
I was trying to phone you when I'm crawling out the door
I'm amazed at you, the things you say that you don't do
Why don't you ring?

I was feeling lonely, feeling blue
Feeling like I needed you
And I've woken up surrounded by me
A&E

It's a blue, bright blue Saturday, hey hey
And the pain has started to slip away, hey hey
I'm in a backless dress on a pastel ward: "The Shining"
I think that I want you still, but it may be pills at work

How did I get to accident and emergency?
All I wanted was you to take me out
I was feeling lonely, feeling blue
Feeling like I needed you
And I hoped you'd call and hoped you'd see me

Good point. She is the visual presence of the band but Will Gregory is the other half of Goldfrapp.

I've been hearing this song for years on RP, thinking it was a nice, happy song. Finally paid attention to the lyrics, wow.
Was lucky enough to see them live around the release of this album - intimate gig put on by the regional radio station - managed to nab free tickets by phoning in - first time that ever happened! They literally played 8 songs from this album, thanked the crowd then left - no encore, no matter how much I pleaded for Utopia - short, sweet and cherishable.
My favourite song from the album.  Thanks Bill and Rebecca!
At long last after what seemed an eternity Goldfrapp has finally released a brand new album for 2017 titled Silver Eye. I'm sure Bill at RP will soon put its tracks into rotation.
Yeah! She's something very special indeed — in every way! Everything she does is so unique; it's often very deep, and always inspired
Still the prettiest song about overdosing to get the attention of an unrequited love. 9->10

Thank you. And thanks to another poster who pointed out that the "backless dress" was a hospital gown.
Alison!! Where are you? Why won't you marry me?!? Tour for godsakes!
This song always comes up first on my iPhone and I usually start with it when I want to shuffle all others.
It begins slowly and builds to quite a wonderful climax. She is an audiophonic auteur.

Is that officially in your will? Will the RP crowd be invited? Will there be cocktails and a play list?

Just listening to Allison and Will talking about their music  - "iTunes originals" on Spotify and checking back on RP noticed that there are 17 tracks in the library - way to go Bill and Rebecca.  I just love Goldfrapp - so unique and original {#Good-vibes} {#Sunny}

Aww bless ...what a wee cutie of a song{#Shifty}
Goldfrapp always reminds me of that cinnamon liqueur, with gold leaf in it.
I want this played at my funeral.
My favourite Goldfrapp song, sweet!

Now RomeoTuma  has disappeared may I suggest we follow his lead keep these wonderful posts from the Late Great Cynaera on the front page?  R.I.P. Ann
My initial reaction to this tune was lukewarm and has faded every time I hear it.
Goldfrapp! yay! My, not so little now, tube amp loves Goldfrapp...

Right there with you.

I bought this song after hearing it a few times on RP, and I like it more the more I hear it. Something about it just works for me. I'd still have the same opinion if Allison was an unattractive dimbo.

I was a bit disappointed when this album came out, it wasn't what I expected. But this song especially has REALLY grown on me over time...

Wow - just read the lyrics of this song, and it's pretty heavy emotional stuff... I have a friend who used to regularly end up in the emergency room because she'd try to kill herself by overdosing on pills and alcohol or cutting her wrists (she finally learned that to effectively open a vein, one must slice along the vein, and not across it.)  It was all because of the various medications she'd been prescribed (she was misdiagnosed as psychotic from the very beginning, and things just went downhill from there.)  She's off drugs, doesn't drink anymore, and doesn't have any problem feeling emotions without going overboard.  This song reminds me of her uglier times, though.  Nice tune, but dark, dark lyrics.

And that was probably more information than anyone really wanted to read. {#Whistle}

For some reasons these little stories from peoples lives are frequently more interesting then the song comments themselves.  I, for one, appreciate you sharing it.

Thanks for the translation. Requoting it here.
I love her vocal range - she can hit the high notes clearly, without sliding up to them, and her lower registers are smooth, but she can make them husky/whispery when she wants.  Day-am - I'm liking her music more and more.... {#Daisy}

Popular music recording artists are usually not just judged in "music terms".  I liked Goldfrapp's music before I had seen any images of Alison Goldfrapp, but it cannot be denied that her physical attractiveness is a part of their "act".  Finding her physically attractive does not make one a "pig".  Good song, by the way.

Just...great; a British treasure
Awesome, one of Goldfrapp's best!

It's what they make you wear when you wind up in A&E . You never been to hospital? Lucky Git!

There's an EP with about 6 versions of this song.  Most excellent.
Way to much breathing sound,never liked that in a recording.{#No}

I find her vocals and the music extremely soothing.  Good stuff.

It required reading the lyrics to get that a backless dress was a hospital gown.

 AKA Mary Kate Olsen?
Inventive video for this - easily found on YouTube.

I saw them 2005 as starter for Coldplay. And I never forget what my girlfriend and me understood when they introduced themselves: "Hello, we don't f**k" instead of "Hello, we are Goldfrapp." {#Lol}

She looks like she just got notified that she wouldn't get to play Lady Macbeth at the Shakespeare festival.
Recently bought this disc having been introduced on RP and I'm liking it much...THANKS again

Love the video, it reminds me of the utterly bizarre short La Dernier Chaperon Rogue (it can be found in crap quality on google). It is a twisted version of Little Red Riding Hood featuring the french sexpot Emanuelle Béart.

Not Cocteau Twins-ish at all.  This song sounds like pop crap to me.

Nah - Alison actually sings with proper, understandable words.

I am digging Goldfrapp.  I like how they seem to be able to change their sound from ablum to album.  Looks like it's Itunes time again.  Thanks BillG.  Please play this song again.

I want to like this song...but I just can't seem to...
1st time - its a 7 - she does have a great voice.  But I'm a sucker for great female vocals.

I get to see Alison tonight at the Showbox in Seattle!  Never seen Goldfrapp before so I'm excited to see what is in store.
i heard that this song was based on an experience of goldfrapp waking up in a British Emergency room (an A and E)  to Dogg the Bounty hunter and chris the mind freak.  sort of a combination of both the new and old world experiences
Goldfrapp....Goldie Hawn...
Is there a correlation here....I think there is!
Ooh.....very nice! A different sound for them, after the usual Strict Machine.

I liked A&E better when it had educational/cultural programming.  Now it's famous for the Gotti show, Gene Simmons, Dog the Bounty Hunter and other shows that help promote values that deaden the sensibilities of a great democracy.

Oh, and I'm the first comment here.

Wrong A&E but ... I agree SO much! I particularly miss this show:

she's just plain sexy
luvvin' the cover...
Loving Goldfrapp!

So far, they can do no wrong.  Love the beats, the ambiance, Alison's voice of course, the composition...they nail it nearly every time.
