You were at my door
I heard you knocking but I didn't care at all
I had been in all night just staring at the wall
I didn't really want to see you anymore

Coming from the road
You took your coat off and you threw it on the floor
You said "I can't believe you wanna hurt me so"
I said "I'm not supposed to be like this, you know"
Well, I just had to let you go

(Chorus)
What's on your mind?
When you're lost in time
What's on your mind?
Tell me why
Why does it have to be this way?

You were in that dream that I was dreaming
I was dreaming in a dream
Your nylon dress and I was floating back downstream
I wanted love to come and swallow everything

Everything gets real
Sooner or later, doesn't matter how you feel
You slammed that door shut on the night of glass and steel
I cannot blame you for believing what you believe
Well, I just had to let you go

(Chorus)

Why do you always stay
Miles away
And two steps behind
Where the past is still living
Beautiful and forgiven
Do you not see
That you live in a dream
Hey

(Chorus) x2

Agreed...  The guy does have a good and very distinctive voice (as does our benevolent DJ, Bill) but the songs are lame!  This particular song does sound like Robert Goulet or even Frank Sinatra, "trying to be cool".  Granted, they're Norwegian (or Swedish or somesuch) but the lyrics are so full of cliches and idiomatic expressions - I guess that's to be expected with a foreign group trying to write English lyrics.  Maybe they should try to cover something good (written by somebody who speaks English as a native language).  The music itself is rather amateurish as well, reminds me of a '70s cover band in some rinky dink bar.

Sorry Bill, obviously you're infatuated with this band, but they aren't anywhere near as great as you make them out to be...

I have this cd. I must say, that some of the songs are very dark and the arrangements are not very professional. But i dont think, that the language is the fault. Norway is one of the best in English speaking foreign language. I still love some song of Madrugada very much.

Was this a Leonard Nemoy cover?

By the way, my computer was so horrified at having been required to play this song that it took a solid five minutes in protest to load up a comments page.  I can't say I blame it.

That voice is a fine instrument, how refreshing to here a baritone in modern music.

Dear GJR,

This is music. I take it you don't approve. I don't really like this song either, that's why I broke up the group. That and their silly name. Variety is part of the deal in this universe. Deal with it.

God

I love these guys...and I'm surprised that no one has mentioned Scott Walker in these threads. {#Cowboy}
I've heard this song once. That's too much.

I was thinking "Roger Whitaker meets Leonard Cohen", but you may be closer to the heart of this melodramatic matter.

I'll bet Madruga could do a fine OTT version of MacArthur Park.

Madrugada in Leknes, I used "social engineering" to get my EOS 350D past the consert guards. It´s my first consert shot ever.

By the look of those zees, it appears the sleep angels won that battle, thank goodness! Lest we forget the power of music, the power to soothe the savage, melancholy, suicidal breast into a modicum of tranquility.

Wisecrowe.

First, gimme a break.  Second, you are right in that Leonard Cohen is very popular in Norway.  Third, if Leonard Cohen ever 'lifted' his voice like Silvert does, it would crack and sound awful.

This man has one of the best male voices in contemporary rock music.

That's because it's a pretty good song, in my opinion.  I like the fact that he sounds like he's reading the lyrics out of a phone book.  It works, for some reason.

I enjoy this band. Too bad they disbanded.

I wish he WERE listening to Nick Cave and not singing.  Talk about soporific.  Sheesh.

Again?  Time to mod this down a bit more.
OMG, the tinkly parts are sooooo reminiscent of that Bat For Lashes song, "What's a Girl to Do?" ... anyone else hear that? Picture that part where she's talking, before the chorus kicks in. Uncanny.
That's kinda what I'm hearin'......bravo!

{#Clap} yes he has earned his own distinction

Reminiscent of Leonard Cohen?

moffedille, Radioparadise plays lots of Norwegian and other Scandanavian music including Ane Brun.

Incidentally, this is a tad bombastic but it is not "metal".

Proud to be norvegina {#Dancingbanana}

But where is Magnet, Ane Brun, røyksopp etc? We have some music besides metal :-)
But I don't complain, RP plays great music!
Gran tema, me encantan las atmósferas creadas por Madrugada...

This album has a lot of fantastic songs on it.  You might want to consider just getting the whole thing.  In addition to this song, Honey Bee and The Hour of the Wolf are really good, and just about all of the other songs are strong as well.

That makes two of us.

It's a pity the label can't get more going on for the band in this country. Although I suppose in a year I'll come to regret that remark, as others make the discovery and they end up in a commercial for beer, birth control, biscuits, or what have you.

I sure hope they never sell out. Just a shame the band is no longer. Great music while they were together.
Whoa, these guys are Norwegian?  That surprises me...  But I LOVE it!  Thanks for introducing this band to me.  {#Roflol}

Hiya,

I heard the beginning of this song, and I thought — hey it's a Nick cave song that I like!  Then, after I looked, I reconized what I like so much about their song Majesty.

Very, very Tindersticks-y. Like something from Curtains. Good stuff.

Is there a new guitarist? I thought all the guitar parts for this album were done before Robert's death.

Try and get a listen to The Robin Trower Band with James Dewar on vocals (and bass). He was briefly in a band with Frankie Miller, where Frankie was the second best singer.

My answer is much more exciting.

Great album folks, if you can get your hands on it.  Surprised that Bill/Rebecca didn't take the Honey Bee upload - ranks up there with Majesty as far as I'm concerned - but Look Away Lucifer's still on LRC rotation.

I love this album, and this is probably my favorite song on it.  It's a 10 for me for sure! Glad to see it finally made it to RP.
Love these guys. Thanks, RP. Paid a fortune for one of their cd's (shipped from Europe), but it was worth every penny.

Goes to show, you just don't know what's coming next from Madrugada!
