As she walks in the room, scented and tall
Hesitating once more
And as I take on myself and the bitterness I felt
Realize that love flows

Wild white horses, they will take me away
And the tenderness I feel will send the dark underneath
Will I follow?

Through the glory of life, I will scatter on the floor
Disappointed and sore
And in my thoughts I have bled for the riddles I've been fed
Another line moves over

Wild white horses, they will take me away
And the tenderness I feel will send the dark underneath
Will I follow?

Wild white horses, they will take me away
And the tenderness I feel will send the dark underneath
Will I follow?

This is the only "new" Portishead I love.  And I absolutely love it.  Such a soundscape and beat.  I admit you do have to be in the right mood, but when you feel it its great.

The acoustic guitar, the transition into the synth with Gibbons' voice holding that note (yes, manipulation but it's about the effectiveness here imo).  Wow, I love this song.
The 30-second vocal note thing feels a bit gimmicky.
This song has a certain "NICO" quality, which is a great thing!
This gets better with age as it stands out more with time I think.

When this album was released, I couldn't wait to buy it, based on this song (on RP).  I listened to the whole thing, then put it on the shelf and forgot about it.

It wasn't until a couple of years ago that I actually put the time into really listening to it.  It's not  an 'easy' album; in fact it can be pretty hard to listen to.  However, at this point I have to admit that it's excellent in spite of that, and worth putting some work into.

Last part of this song reminds me a lot of Radiohead

Ziggy, me thinks that you are being kind and generous.  :-)
When did Tori Amos join Portishead?
Their third album should be banished from existence...

I adore this song.  Have it rated at 10.

But the rest of the CD leaves me rather cold. Stopped listening to it a while back.

I'm good with ambient electronica, down tempo, some trip-hop, etc.   Is there another Portishead CD I should maybe sample?

Definitely "Dummy." I couldn't get into this one either, kinda bored with it after awhile. It's been 14 year between the two - wonder if that had an impact on it.

I, too, am not the biggest fan of their 3rd album, but the first 2 (Portishead and Dummy) are fantastic! And they did a live DVD at the Roseland called PNYC in which you can watch Beth chain-smoke as she belts out the wonderful zombie-fied trip-hop...

Do you know Cinematic Orchestra? Or Zero 7? About Portishead...all CDs are incredible!

This song is so amazing...the depres vibe....Beth Gibbons is one of the greatest crooner of all time.

AbsoLUTELY! Tricky is definitely a missing on RP.

Really like this. Very similar sound to Beth Gibbons' solo album. Great stuff.

Oh yes.
Massive Attack and then this?  I work deal with that.

Weird album as a whole though.  Dark for sure and a clear departure from the first two.  I have to respect the shift away from angst into something more mature especially since it managed to lose none of the edge at all.

I can 'feel it'.

Funny to read the negative comments though.

For those who aren't feeling this song, I can attest that they pull off an amazing version of it live.

Thanks for the tip — that's too bad though.  I was just realizing I have their first 2 albums but not this one.  Thought I might add this to my collection, but guess I'll preview samples of all songs first.....

Loving that fat electronic cycling bass sound.
