Again...I say she sounds like that guy from Silversun Pickups!  {#Naughty}
At first I though it was Liz Phair. Dreadful.

Strange, it sounds very ordinary to me... actually, quite boring to be honest. A five from me.
This would be a nice segue after a Floyd "in the garden" piece.
reminds me of Liz Phair~

Yep, she sounds like Liz Phair . . . which is fine.
She always reminds me of that dude singer in Silversun Pickups!
Love this naked, soulful song.

Man, that does take the cake. Thanks for the info but it's sort of like finding out that an old friend from school has joined a cult.

Keep reading:

On July 4, 2006, she gave a lecture at University of British Columbia in Vancouver on the topic of "Cracking the Egg: A Look from the Inside". She began with a poetic meditation on science and life, and then opened the floor up to questions from the audience. She talked about her recent adventures in decommodifying her life, her change in name, and her new conception of herself as an artist.

In 2006 and 2007, Issa documented the process of recording some thirty new songs in her journal, posted on her MySpace page and on issalight.com. In the autumn 2008 she finalized three albums. The first one is entitled Dragon Dreams, and was released on December 12, 2008.
Your old friend sounds fine.

The voice and style reminds me a little of Laurie Anderson in O Superman, especially her little rising tone at the end of some lines. Hmm. Hypnotic, could grow on you. 6 from the intrigued Nottingham jury.

Lovely vocals. I have to disagree with some previous comments.  Think how absurd this song would sound if Celine Dion were to perform it.

I hear Jane Siberry in the vocals. Whatever happened to her?
(from Wiki)
"Early in 2006, Jane Siberry closed her Sheeba Records office, then sold and gave away nearly all of her possessions—including her home and instruments. She presently retains one travelling guitar, but none of the other instruments featured on her albums and in her concerts. In 2006, she told The Globe and Mail that she had kept a very few precious possessions, including her Miles Davis CDs, in storage. In June, 2006, somewhere in northwestern Europe, Siberry changed her name to Issa. She revealed her new name to the public on June 24, 2006. She has also indicated, however, that her older music will remain available for sale under the name Jane Siberry; only her new material will be released as Issa. She indicated to The Globe and Mail that she chose the name Issa as a feminine variant to Isaiah."

Weird, huh?

Like several others, I too hear the Liz Phair influence/similarity... nice!
Vocals sound like Silversun Pickups...even though the singer is a dude, which I still can't believe.  Anyone else hear that?
There's definitely some detuning going on here, but it wasn't incompetence (in a few places it is an effect simulating a Leslie speaker).  Definitely intended to create an uneasy space within the song.  Since the heydays of punk, you rarely hear guitars out of tune accidentally in professional music.  You DO hear alot of people playing with people's straightlaced sensibilities to evoke a response though :)

Good artistic talent.  Will listen to again

This guitar is in tune... it's in open D tuning and is perfectly in tune. Check your ears.

She's the female Decemberist. {#Headache}
Weird.. but nice in a way.

more range?  Give me a break.  Go listen to Whitney Houston if you want more range.  This is songwriting and lyrics at it's finest.
I think I'd like it if she had just a little more range.

Boy, didn't like that.  I can't abide her pitch errors.

liz phair meets this la surf movie composer michael sterling eaton and they had a baby.
yes, if you like this song, check out Randi's myspace (myspace.com/randirusso) and discover what an awesome rounded (aesthetically rounded) person she is.  Let's hope she'll keep up the audio and visual beauty to aid our needy ears and eyes.

That was beautiful - so much going on in that song.  Definitely worth a deeper look.  I checked out her myspace, more great tunes there.  I see also that she's a talented painter as well.

what?  Awesomely lame?  Is that a twisted compliment or an evil putdown?  Dang, thistle is sharp.

there's no wikipedia entry for her yet....and it seems like a pretty interesting piece of information....maybe you should start the entry.
Awesomely lame lyrics.
Yes, I read the AMG review a while back; allmusic is my North Star for music (though I sometimes disagree with their ratings)  And, Randi, (if you are reading this) you should feel honored to even HAVE a biography on allmusic (and I honored to have contacted you, etc. thanks to myspace)
Anyways, I really like this song (as I've told you).  It shows your softer side (though you are a really hard core person or can be)  It seems more sophisticated than your earlier stuff and I like the simplistic beauty of the guitar part.
Good work, keep it up
Love,
Marta

I guess I should have done that instead - it's a bit more clear than just a link! Thanks!

Just read the AMG entry for her - she plays guitar the same as I do! (Just thought that was pretty cool!)
