It's clear you have a deathwish
From what I hear
Your latest dish, lives for you
It scares you half to death

You bend over backwards to make a statement
Hang from the rafters and lick the pavement
Split your lip and barely catch a breath

Your lovely eyes that close like petals
Your sweet surprise can win you medals
You strut your stuff and fan your peacock feathers

Even if you fake it to get attention
Whatever it'll take to get them to listen
Piss on your designer boots and designer leathers

(chorus)
Hey little rock star (hey little rock star)
Why don't you see
This is not all that, its cracked up to be
And I can't say I blame you
For throwin' the towel in
For buying more fame
Cashing your chips in
With all your talent
So much to gain
To toss it away like this
It'd be such a shame

Juvenile delinquent, misunderstood
Peter Pan and Robin Hood
Will you ever do things you're afraid to do?
Will you ever know happiness of a rock star?
Was your deathwish stronger than you are?
Will you go up in flames like the torches that are carried for you?

Hey little rock star (hey little rock star)
Why don't you see
This is not all that, its cracked up to be
And I can't say I blame you
For throwin' the towel in
For buying more fame
Cashing your chips in
With all your talent
So much to gain
To toss it away like this
It'd be such a shame
To toss it away like this
Would be such a shame
To toss it away like this
Would be such a shame

Just a tiny bit of Martha W maybe; my enjoyment increased a lot after the first chorus. Quite edgy with the guit sound later on.
Wow, lot of hate for this LW song. It's not that bad.
Her best work ? Naah, but it's still good.
I'm very surprised at the RP listener loathing.
There is a lot of other music that deserves it, and not much if it gets played here.
Which is what brings us all here of course...
I cringe everytime I hear a new song of hers introduced to RP's playlist.  I just don't get the appeal to her. Musically, vocally it's just plain lacking if not downright annoying.

Me too.

I like it.

And I'm staying right here and if you don't like it, you know where you can go.

Got it?

OK got it tough guy{#Laughing}

Dunno about the rest of her songs, but this one sure bugs me. "Fake sleepy, smoky, after-sex voice." Exactamente.

Lucinda - ahhh.  She's amazingly good.

To balance out the idiots that have been voting  1's for every song in the last hour I've been voting them at 10's.

You 1 voters should just go find a different station.

Well, I like it. It is a beautiful ballad and I love her voice. It certainly deserves more than a five! Seven!!!
It's ok. Better than anything else I've heard from her. It's > 4, but < 5.
Solid Lucinda. Damn, she can paint picture with that voice.

I know this may sound strange, but this is annoyingly enjoyable...if that's possible?

Lucinda Williams - Little Rock Star
Patty Griffin - Burgundy Shoes

So is Lucinda suggesting we p*ss on Patty Griffin's Burgundy Shoes?

Haven't had the pleasure of hearing her early stuff, but I like this a lot.
There's something about a strung out scratchy chick voice that does it for me... dunno. {#Cry}{#Sorry}{#Moon}{#Hearteyes}
Okay, it's not horrible, but it's rainy, cold, and gray out this AM, so the addition of all these moody little songs in a row is being a total, total buzz kill, yeesh!

How about picking up the pace just a skoach? :)

Fake sleepy, smoky, after-sex voice is so grating. Literally like fingernails on the blackboard. Yes, I know it's part of the gestalt to the song, but she does it waaay too much in many of her songs.

I loved LW's early stuff. No more.

Chrissie Hynde has got to wish that she had written and performed this one.  Borrows heavily from the Pretenders IMHO, but I'm loving it.  Lucinda gets every drop of value out of her own unique style on this song.  Good pick from the new LW CD.

I don't love it, but it does have a hint of strung out Courtney Love (back when she was good—the junkie slut pig days).
Not my favorite Lucinda song by a long shot. If this is your first time listening to her, don't let this song/album put you off. Grab 'Car Wheels on a Gravel Road'. 'Drunken Angel' is a great track.
Lucinda what has happened here, this sucks.  Usually I really like your stuff?????

still.

And this is supposed to be her happy album!  I like it overall, but I'm a sucker for that troubled siren.  Kinda weird to hear backup singers on a Lucinda album...

trippy vocal.kind of charming... yeah

need to hear this again I kinda liked it
Reminded me of Mary Gauthier

She always sounds that way. It's part of her charm.
I like the album cover design. I heard Lucinda in an interview on Fresh Air and was amazed at how terrible her speaking voice is. But I like her songs. This one doesn't bowl me over, but it might grow on me. Let's wait and see.

True enough. A shame they're not being sung in tune.

she sounds drunk.

so, uhh, autobiographical?
It seems like I hear this every other day in the morning when I am most on the computer! The torture is too much! Please.......get rid of this from the playlist.  Where's the mute?

...yeah, this is genuinely awful "singing."
painful. she actually DOES sound like she's been on a 3-day bender.

There's so much wrong with this song, but I can't turn it off.

That is correct.

she's hit or miss with topics, like most but not all....
but that's just me
like still Long 4 your kiss, blue , steel your love, essence

Wow, I usually LURVE Lucinda, but I really don't care for this very much.
like most of her other stuff, but this is just plain annoying...
Suffused with poignant resignation.

She knows how to wring out all of the emotion
Worst thing I ever heard Ms Williams do and she is usually quite a treat. The second or third song I have ever been forced to mute on RP.
I'm biased, I like Lucinda a lot.  I haven't heard all of this album, but what I've heard is pretty good.
I don't understand how anyone can not like her voice.  This one is amazing, thanks Bill.
Yikes...not a big fan of this tune but I will buy this CD.  I love Lucinda's work, especially her debut release (i.e., the re-release w/18 tracks; see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lucinda_Williams_(album)
and Car Wheels On A Gravel Road.  I spent the weekend listening to them while working on my cars.  Great stuff....consistently...track after track.  Love her Telecaster player's sound...heavenly. {#Guitarist}

lovin' it.
I don't think Lucinda Williams could redeem herself in any way. This is painful...her voice is irritating. Make it stop {#Stop}
Last night I was playing this CD, and my boyfriend came in from the kitchen.

"Who is this hoarse teenage boy who is singing?" he inquired.

slow....
Turns into painful
