Ms Cristina drives a 944
Satisfaction oozes from her pores
She keeps rings on her fingers, marble on her floor
Cocaine in her dresser, bars on her door
She keeps her back against the wall
She keeps her back against the wall

So I say
I say welcome, welcome to the boomtown
Pick a habit, we got plenty to go around
Welcome, welcome to the boomtown
All that money makes such a succulent sound
Welcome to the boomtown

Handsome Kevin got a little off track
Took a year off from college and he never went back
Now he smokes much too much, got a permanent hack
Deals dope out of Denny's, keeps a table in the back
He always listens to the ground
Always listens to the ground

So I say
I say welcome, welcome to the boomtown
Pick a habit, we got plenty to go around
Welcome, welcome to the boomtown
All that money makes such a succulent sound
Welcome to the boomtown

Well, the ambulance arrived too late
I guess she didn't want to wait

So I say
I say welcome, welcome to the boomtown
Pick a habit, we got plenty to go around
Welcome, welcome to the boomtown
All that money makes such a succulent sound
Welcome to the boomtown
Welcome to the boomtown
Welcome to the boomtown
Welcome to the boomtown

Yes ! and the Moulin Rouge soundtrack!
This seems to be sadly missing from any oldies genre of corporate radio.. Even kids who appreciate "oldeis" have never heard of this song...
Satisfaction ooo just from a Porsche… Ahhh the 80s
Easy on that anvil man...
Music from a totally different lifetime....

I thought so too - was a great tune for the times...and the word "succulent" !  Always hated it (the way some folk hate "moist")  and worked so well in that line.

well, I haven't heard this in YEARS.  Thanks, RP!  Lots of memories....

Ha! I always thought he was singing that as well!

"Midnight Blue" is not a bad tune, but man, I don't know if I could listen to it nonstop.
WOW. how does RP know what I was listening to and loved over 30+ years ago?
I heard this song by chance back in the 80's and fell in love. I went to see them here in Toronto and LOVED them. I don't think they did anything after this, but I just loved their sound, and in particular this song. So cool. Definitely a 10.
Remember back in the day it got played a lot in the radio
I always dug this one...Big fat 8 from me.

Not to get political but Ronald Reagan did a good job of selling the dream and more than a few of us bought it.
First time I read the lyrics. This is a good one
Brilliant album.one of the best of the 80s. One of my desert island albums
This is such a great song on so many levels.

Yes, two other tracks from the Boomtown album charted:

"Swallowed by the Cracks"

"Ain't So Easy"

RP also plays the cut "Being Alone Together"

Wiki says in 2016 they were reported to be working on a 2nd album.
Did these guys do anything else besides this song?
Brings back so many memories of the 80s.  However it would not be out of place as a soundtrack song on "Californication" or some other recent LA drama show.  This album stands as one of those underappreciated albums of that time.  Great songwriting and production on this.

It's both!  Great memories and just great music for our present day as well.  Time to dance, spin and twirl.
"Pick a habit
We got plenty to go around"

Pretty much sums up the 80's for me.
This should be played much more often on RP.  Such great songwriting, guitar work, and production.  Sure, it has a little bit of dated 80s sonic elements, but I like that.

And the lyrics.  Perfect summation of the 80s.  Gather around kids, let me tell you about a ridiculous decade called the 80s.

"The ambulance arrived too late, I guess she didn't wanna wait....."
This is one of those songs when I wonder if I like it, or it is just nostalgia for working at college radio.
Was this on the Lost Boys soundtrack? For some reason it reminds me of that movie.
Good memories...
Rats.
Must be over 25 years since I have heard this song. Totally forgot who sang this song, thanks for playing RP.
Having watched the yippies become yuppies in the 80s, I have always liked the lyric:

If you liked this song, you knew all the words.  I've sang it in my car at the top of my lungs —  in classic 80's style.

Nice!
It's sad how Jack FM and 80s on 8 on Sirius will never play classics like this, but they'll happily play "Beat It" five times a night every night.
This is one of those groups that I feel like I am one of the few people that knew about.  This made my day hearing you play this, Bill!  Makes me wants to go digging for some Human Radio while we are at it. {#Jump}

Good Pop songwriting
One of the best albums of the 80's, for sure. Unfortunately, they were one and done.

Thirds. We probably heard it too much back then. It probably also sounded a lot like other 80s pop songs...

No offense against the 80's; especially since I have adult memories of the era (heh), but this song is one of the few I recall as being worthy of the style.  I kind'a see it as a tongue in cheek sarcastic statement regarding the prevailing social viewpoint.  The counterpoint to "Like a Virgin" I suppose?  It said a lot about the mindset of the folks from that time; and kind'a set-up what became the smack-down of the "Vogue" era of the 90's when it all crashed in dot.com style.  But hey...life goes on don't it?
Now THIS is 80s music. That's why I don't listen to XM Radio and iHeart because their idea of an "80s music" is a channel that plays "Beat It" every hour.
I always liked this song a lot.  Thanks Bill!
Awesome song - awe the memories!!! Thank you RP{#Clap}
fond memories {#Cheers}
Some of my best memories are from the 80's.  What a great era for music too!
Great song, great record!! Thanks Bill!! Reminds of my early 20's in LA blasting this song driving to the beach.
The good ol' days!
Wow—I just transported back to Chico State, 1985, living in Trinity dorm, hearing this song blaring on my roomie's stereo.  Great memories!
They were part of "The Tuesday Night Music Club" I believe.
It does what promises.
I just bought a pristine copy of this LP today from the 80s. Lightweight vinyl but I think unplayed until today.

Followed by Kevin Ayers ~ Stranger In Blue Suede Shoes ?  Maybe someday ...
Oh my gawd!! Welcome to the dark reaches of my memories, love you RP!!
One of the all time great lines in rock n roll:

All that money makes such a succulent sound
Just a great song.  To the 80's  what Roger Miller's King of the Road was to the early 60's
Takes me back!!
COOOOOOOL
Blast from the past.
It is throw back Thursday after all, right?

Good call, RP. Good vibes from a distant time and adventures in far off Australia for me…
Life was much simpler in the mid-80's.

Can you really deal dope out of a back table at Denny's anymore?
Worst song I've heard on any radio station in months.  Just sooo fucking bad.  RP, you can do better.
Well I remember, how this was on the radio the same time as Townshend's White City...love the raging guitars and slick soundscape...
...succulent sound??  oh well, it was the 80s after all.
I always thought it was Welcome to the Moontan.  Too much Golden Earring back in the day, I suppose.

Had this album since 86'. Very solid stuff.
These guys... awesome. Great song, great album, great tour... way back when. Made Sheryl Crowe songs resonate til today. Great choice!

Wow, haven't heard this one in a long time — possibly not since the 80s.  Kinda like it.

Surprise for me, I discover since 1980 and now what R.P play this very good Album.
Thanks for R.P.
Please listen the track 4 ( it's my preference)
Regards

This song sucks 80's ass

Snoooooorrrrrrre
wtf
As someone familiar to boom towns, love the imagery.  And David & David, but espec David Baerwald's work.
Welcome to the poon-tang? I don't get it {#Lol}
Dont know nothing about this guys, but not bad!
Miss Christina drives a 944...Hot car in its day Great song too

And the memories come flooding back.

I hope I'm not going crazy... I'm hearing Bach's Prelude in C during the verses.

Great song.  Brings me back to my high school days.  Or was this junior high?

Great song.  Brings me back to my college days.
is this "country music"?
I don't get why he always listens to Lou Gramm.  I dig Foreigner as much as the next guy, but really.
Wow - I'd totally forgotten about this track - excellent!
where has this been hiding
Thanks RP I had forgotten about this one.

You're the best...

One of my all -time favorite albums.  I actually have had the CD for years and it's been electronically secured now in my ITunes library {#Tongue-out}.    I was lucky enough to see them live about a year after releasing this album in a small venue.  From what I understand they recorded all the instruments themselves for the album so had to hire musicians to tour. They were absolutely amazing!  The percussionist they had (I woman) was incredible.  Good memories....

I remember that percussionist too...completely surrounded by bongos, drums, bells, etc. She was great.

David Baerwald has (or used to have not long ago) a fairly active solo career....tours around a lot...I've seen him in Austin several times....he's the one with this GREAT voice!!!

Lived in north Jersey around this time ... "Blingtown" ... lots of these characters hung around there. {#Devil_pimp}

Actually David Baerwald (the one in the foreground) released a few really good solo albums, and was a founding member of Sheryl Crow's 'Tuesday Night Music Club"—-although she appears to have stiffed them after she got big.

Grew up in Houston....BOOMTOWN!
"...got a permanent hack." I think I knew that guy. {#Cowboy}

Damn...I forgot about this song.  Nice upload. I really liked this whole album (and yes it was a vinyl album). These guys never did much after this.

I saw these guys play at the old Bottom Line in Greenwich Village( a shame that it closed)....they were very good.

I haven't heard this in years. I think I wore the grooves off on my copy of this in college.

Considering the current economic troubles, not only a great song-but still relevant.
Cool. Haven't heard this in a long time. I had this on a cassette, amazing tunes. I can't find it anywhere! Another track on this, something about the war ... incredible. I need to find this.
EDIT: I was wrong. Baerwald released a solo after this ... Bedtime Stories. THAT was incredible. Can't find it. Must.
EDIT II: It's not on iTunes. Drat. Songs called "Stranger" and "All for You" from that album. Killer.
Nice to hear this great song.  Best one on the album IMHO.  I have it on vinyl, but no turntable right now.

I've seen it now and again in used bins.  If you really want it, that auction site is lousy with them, cheap.

Another of those simple songs that paints vivid images.  8
Knock me off my stool! I couldn't get enough of D&D when I was a kid. Haven't heard this in years. Thanks Bill.
The Boomtown's gone bust. But this song hasn't lost it's luster.
Yay!   One of my all-time favorite CDs! {#Music}
Yet another one I uploaded only to be told "sorry."  {#Think}  Ah, well, at least it's in the mix now.  Glad to hear it again.  Good storytelling track.

Thanks.  The solo and voice come from the past like an echo from a cave.  A missed favorite.

WoW! I think this was a cassette-only tune, which means I haven't heard it for at least a decade; since the old van with the cassette player died. There was a brief time when I couldn't get enough of this song. Thanks for the memory RP!
Great to hear this one here... haven't heard it for years.  There were quite a few other very good songs on the album as well.  So much great music on vinyl, gone forever... (sigh)
bleh...

I knew a Christina, and always felt she was a bit false, as was the 944  . . .  ;-)
I never could remember which one was David.
It's about time this made it to the main!
