I am the key to the lock in your house
That keeps the toys in the basement
And if you get too far inside
You'll only see my reflection

I am her face when she sleeps tonight
I am the pick in the ice
Do not cry out or hit the alarm
'Cause we are friends 'til we die

And any way you turn I'll be there
Open up your skull I'll be there
Climbing up the walls
Climbing up the walls

It's always better when the light is off
It's always best on the outside
And in the crack of your waning smile
Fifteen blows to your mind

O so tuck the kids in safe tonight
And shut the eyes in the cupboard
Do not cry out or hit the alarm
You'll get the loneliest feeling

That any way you turn I'll be there
Open your skull I'll be there
Climbing up the walls
Climbing up the walls
Climbing up the walls

I am the key to the lock in your house
That keeps the toys in the basement
And if you get too far inside
You'll only see my reflection

I'm a big Radiohead fan, but I've never liked this long, so I don't really understand why anyone would want to do a cover of it.

Well, I s'pose if someone else liked it, as opposed to not liking it, then they might feel compelled to cover it.

Now that's just crazy talk!
I'm guessing her mother probably likes listening to her. I however don't.

Ha ha, that's very logical.

I love this version. . .

Wow! Not a Sarah Slean fan, but I have to admit: fantastic cover.  Dare I say better than the original?

I think her vocals fail to convey the desperate madness of the lyrics (although the original uses an echo processor or something so that's a bit of a whine to complain about in a live song - I mean who goes out and buys a guitar pedal to run their mic thru for a cover song), but otherwise it's a very decent cover.

Love the instrumentals but she sounds like natalie merchant (who I can't stand)....

10 for the music
4 for her voice

=7
I really like this cover - Except - the applause and hollering at the end just kill the mood. Edit that out and just let the end hang out there...
10  - I am rating the original here!!!  Take that in your pipe and smoke it DJ!  If only I could do the same for Airbag and Paranoid Android.

I don't give a fig about this damn cover BS!!!!!!!!!!

Original version, please!

Good intentions here but it does not improve or dramatically re-invents it either.

This was a radiohead song?  Must be from one of those awful albums with all the electronic rubbish effects.  This version is actually really cool so it must be better.

Actually, it's from OK Computer... one of the best albums of  the 90s, if not all time. And for what it's worth, some of us like that "electro rubbish."

This was a radiohead song?  Must be from one of those awful albums with all the electronic rubbish effects.  This version is actually really cool so it must be better.

Is a society judged by the way it treats those least able to thrive within it?
Long before she became PM, Mrs. Thatcher was (Ed Heath's) education secretary. In that capacity, she earned a walkout from a dozen or more students at the grade school I attended after she cut the free milk program that provided school children with nourishment with a commodity that was in excess supply. Brilliant!

BTW this isn't a good cover of the original.

Eeuw!  Your favourite?  (Not verified but...)

Thom : "This is about the unspeakable. Literally skull-crushing. I used to work in a mental hospital around the time that Care In The Community started, and we all just knew what was going to happen. And it's one of the scariest things to happen in this country, because a lot of them weren't just harmless... It was hailing violently when we recorded this. It seemed to add to the mood."

"Some people can't sleep with the curtains open in case they see the eyes they imagine in their heads every night burning through the glass. Lots of people have panic buttons fitted in their bedrooms so they can reach over and set the alarm off without disturbing the intruder. This song is about the cupboard monster."

("Care in the Community" is the name that Margaret Thatcher's government gave to closing as many mental hospitals as they could. Nice one, Maggie, you b*****d.)

Doesn't touch on the original for me, but still an interesting listen.

7.
I'd really like to know what equipment was used to record this. For a bootleg recording it was wonderful fidelity — actually, good for a set up recording. Would the uploader please post me on this? Thanks!

Wow - this is a challenging song to cover and she does a fantastic job!
That's the second good cover of a great song today. My faith in song covers has been slightly restored.

Not a song I would ever have expected to hear covered - at least not well.  Kudos to Sarah Slean for surprising me!
Funny, I don't like the RH version but I do like this...

The Radiohead version gave me chills; so does this one. Like the addition of the saxophone here - and I am not a big sax fan, either.

Oh damn! This is awesome!

Me likey!!!

Yes, now this is how you do a cover!
I'd like to hear more of this one!

What a great track! Not typical Sarah... it's also really well recorded for a bootleg recording. Tracks like this are a big part of what makes RP so amazing. Keep up the good work!

Actually, this is a "hidden" track on the Universe CD.

I love playing this song on guitar when it's dark in the room and I'm all alone. But hearing a female voice do it, boy, it really adds something.

hey you DO know Sarah Slean!!!  I'd love to hear stuff from Bedbug's album on here!

Research would seem to indicate that you are correct.

Never heard of her, but after this song I hope I will. A great cover, and I was sure it's McLachlan.
Must be something about Canadian Sarahs... {#Stupid}
Of course I wasn't there, but I'm wondering why the exuberance at the end of that song was warranted....

Good to see this finally played here {#Biggrin}

Dang, I had no idea this is Sarah McLachlan. This seems quite different for her - maybe not though. I haven't bought any of her albums in years.
Woah....this is cool!
I shouldn't be posting because I have a lot of work to do...but a blank comment page is just too tempting.
