Buenas tardes amigo
Hola, my good friend
Cinco de Mayo's on Tuesday
And I hoped we'd see each other again

You killed my brother last winter
You shot him three times in the back
In the night I still hear mama weeping
Oh mama, still dresses in black

I looked at every fiesta
For you I wanted to greet
Maybe I'd sell you a chicken
With poison interlaced with the meat

You... you look like my brother
Mama loved him the best
He was head honcho with the ladies
Mama always said he was blessed

The village all gathered around him
They couldn't believe what they saw
I said it was you that had killed him
And that I'd find you and upstand the law

The people of the village believed me
Mama... she wanted revenge
I told her I'd see that she was honored
I'd find you and put you to death

So now... now that I've found you
On this such a joyous day
I tell you it was me who killed him
But the truth I'll never have to say

Buenas tardes amigo

“For the record: This year (2020), "Cinco de Mayo's on Tuesday" is an accurate statement of fact.” So glad someone pointed this out… And now we shall not speak of 2020 again, okay? The song - and IT IS a parody - are just brilliant. BRILLIANT! 🙏 Wish I’d digested the album in its entirety back in the day… but I just know this song from maybe the summer of ‘94 or ‘95 (those “college days” are a bit hazy.) If you hate on this song you need a readjustment of your sense of humor. If you think it’s racist, it might be a teeny WEENY bit - get over it. 😑

You really need to listen to the entire album. Ween knew exactly what they were doing. The whole thing is an send-up of song stereotypes.

This.

When Deaner's overly loud guitar 'solo' comes in, it makes me lol. His solos are as brilliantly stereotypical as the Ween thing as a whole. Such range.
I have very fond memories of driving around Vermont, reluctantly visiting antique shops, and listening to this album during the drives.
Over the top hilarious!

Some of the song comments are pretty funny too.

I have this rated at 9.  Might rate it at 10 just for the hell of it.
Nick Cave goes Latin. Love it. Wonderful tune

Is that a Fleer Double Bubble belt?

I don't know how many time that I've seen The Good, The Bad and The Ugly. But this song is brilliant.
Sorry, this is just stupid.

from the wiki:

In a 2011 interview, Gene Ween credited a Spanish lesson on Sesame Street with inspiring "Buenas Tardes Amigo"[9].

This sounds painfully racist.  I don't like that at all, and yet I'm enjoying it as a song that might have come from some dude somewhere in Mexico or on the border.  What can I say?  The Good, the Bad and the Ween.
Hilarious!

Ween does Spaghetti Western.
Dean and … Gene?

super photo
I wasn't liking this... then I cranked it... then the guitar hit...
I can’t believe RP is playing this (actually, I can) You guys are the absolute best
I like it.
Best album Cover ever ...
"Maybe I'd sell you a chicken with poison interlaced with the meat" wins Lyrics Du Jour. Hands down.

it appears that this may be one of those cases where the whole is better than the parts. I definitely feel like this belongs in a Quentin Tarantino movie just becuase of all of the cheese. I’m gonna give it a 5 now. OK to listen to, but not too often.
song would have been perfect if he would have pronounced 'chicken' as 'cheeken'

It exploits every ridiculous stereotype of Mexican culture; family, jealousy, food, Cinco de Mayo, accent, assassination, etc. and in a really lame way. I'm all for poking fun at different cultures, and especially my own American culture, if done in an original and creative fashion. This doesn't achieve that. This is just bad humor. I'd give it a 1 if not for the cover... it deserves something > 2

I see where you got the 2 rating from!  lol - I rate the song as a 4 and give the same +2 for that album cover....Long Live RP!!
You really need to listen to the entire album. Ween knew exactly what they were doing. The whole thing is an send-up of song stereotypes.
Wow... what a tragic and dark song...
I'm just here for the album cover.
Wow, that is pretty bad.
{#Clap}  Well done sir!

What is this? From a Spaghetti Western Musical?

Is this the Smothers Brothers
good stuff....  keep this in the RP set lists....

{#Clap}
This guy sounds about as Mexican as the lead singer of Gorgol Bordello.
I can't believe you guys hate this that much.

This is goofy fun... and like another poster said...  Bill warned us.
Awful.

Best album cover EVER!!!  {#Yes}
Not rating this song. Don't care much for Ween, but I have to appreciate their very efficient way of erasing my sense of humor with their sardonic wit.  I need to lighten up (listening to the consensus on this thread).  And I will - after I listen to "Rock Yer Balls Off" by El Madmo...{#Roflol}
Kill the guy already!
He said it would be strange....
I've loved this song ever since I first heard it 15 years ago.  Muchas gracias, amigo!
Love it, very different.
BuenasAmigo
Fail
definitely a different tune...I like the twist at the end
Interesting lyrics to the legendary "St. James Infirmary" tune
...okay, i must share that we're laughing our hearts out at our office here in san antonio - terror babies attack!..
The saving grace of this song is the explosion that ends it. The rest of this album is a similar caliber of musical competence and complete silliness. It's definitely a fun record but by no means a hallmark of our times. Does humor belong in music?
I love it. It's like a Christmas present that I didn't know I wanted.
WOW.....thank God thats over
A burrito western?  This just goes on and on and on - Buenas Tardes indeed.
Never a good sign when the DJ on an eclectic radio station uses the word "weird" to describe a song....
This should be followed by "A Spanish Piece" by Pink Floyd off of More.  They are truly kindred tunes.
I am so glad Bill like this song more than you all! 5.1 rating. Sheesh. This is AWESOME.

This is like watching a really bad movie. Painful...
pretty strange indeed, but good as well.  i picture this in some sort of "nacho-libre" type film.

I guess every satire has to toe the line of bad taste.  This one vaults over the line and spits in its eye.

My first time hearing this and I have to disagree; but your metaphorical criticism is hysterical.
"I will sell you a chicken...with the poison...interlaced...with the meat."

wow. it's like the nightmare ramblings of a teenage, sombrero-wearing, mustached, tatooed, East LA gangbanger. Funny in a disturbing kinda way.

{#Skull}
Sometimes Ween puts together an amazing song that displays the experimental genius of Dean & Gene Ween...

But then other times, this happens.
This was HORRIBLE.
To all the haters: Turn down the sound - you can still enjoy the record cover.

Just sayin.
En algún momento todos los deudos de los muertos asesinados en las fronteras entre países se unirán.
Sus voces jamás serán acalladas.

At some point all the relatives of the dead killed in the borders between countries will join.

No middle ground among the critics here!

"i hope i don't hear in here you again"
cool CD cover though.
no thanks...  {#Stupid}

more Leo Kottke...less of whatever this is....

I like it.
This is a joke?

More like the plot of some cheap exploitation B-movie.  And not even a good one, at that.

9 - Outstanding for the album cover alone.

Ween.
What a bunch of cards.
Ha ha ha.  I can't believe you're playing this.  But what a great tune.  Saw these guys live.  One word sums them up.  WEIRD. I mean the band is, but the people in the crowd were almost more entertaining.  Totally blitzed, tripping, shouting phrases that could only come out of a mind completely departed from reality.  I also could not repeat those phrases here.  Bunch of whack-o's I say.
MAGNIFIQUE
This is like a movie that only has one joke in it that's told over and over for an hour and a half. Ick.
To the 44 people who rated this as a "sucko barfo" 1...

Have you got any sense of humour whatsoever?

Can't get used to him without the moustache.  Getting used to this song, however.

Hearing this song just after seeing the Spinal-Tap-like 'Mighty Wind' makes for a pretty goofy few hours of music. I've had enough now, OK?
El Nacho Libre !!!!!!!!!!!!!
This song cracks me up every time. Shows you how juvenile my sense of humor is. I like how the guitar gets a little...off at the end. I worship these guys.
Like: "Weenie"
Don't Like: "Weiner"
